They do, and a big majority of the population of the game accepts anything SE does as holy gospel, that's why we are seeing barely anything ever fixed and issues going on for as long as since ARR.
I will but I want to finish the game I paid for first or I get bored witch ever comes first.
Let me just take another deep inhale of this copium..
https://media1.tenor.com/m/KqOLJYj0m...copium-cat.gif
During ShB I'd take a break here and there (didn't unsub but just wait a little) and play some outside games, I enjoyed the plot but found the gameplay changes (not just ShB) slowly becoming more and more draining and textureless (like I've said in other threads, just PG instead of RPG), but as I've continued to do that, and I come back to new features that also feel textureless*, and the future looks... 'textureless'.. I do think if 8.0 doesn't come up with some meaningful news I will probably end there (as in not even purchase it/no more sub).
*Like for example I was super excited for Island Sanctuary, and I did enjoy the visuals a lot and hung there due to that.. but the gameplay was very disappointing. Buildings didn't have anything special, the monster catching, the farming, it all was very menu diving, excel with wonderful music and graphics. I can imagine maybe some people liked the excel gameplay, I guess, but for me it was very surprising that was the core pillar of gameplay. There is a lot of examples, but another personal one would be how Blue Mage or Pet jobs, or other unique ideas, will never see primary daylight because it's too hard for FFXIV to envision or requires too many unique resources. I have faith WoW could and would do more for a regular class then FFXIV will, and that makes me a bit sad (and has pushed me to try WoW recently).
If this joke of a company keeps releasing broken systems and races and puts no effort to fix them or at a glacial pace, sure.
I've been playing for almost 12 years. I've never been this disconnected from this game. I barely log in. I barely give a shit.
Heck, DC travel has been one of if not the single most harmful things for me as a player. I either can't play the game at all, or I have to contribute in a practice that, at this point, is killing the game for me. I shouldn't have to supplement playing on a foreign server because your game is dead. I shouldn't.
I'm already tending towards quitting.
If the game does not get more interesting by the end of Dawntrail, I will not buy 8.0 and unsubscribe instead.
Currently housing is the only thing preventing me from leaving. If I unsubscribe, my house is gone. And if my house is gone, I'm not comming back. Losing my house is a deal breaker and because of that, I'm not taking a break even though there is currently nothing interesting for me to do. I'm basically paying a housing subscription at this point ^_^.
This also means that I will not come back if all my designs and all my housing items are gone.
I don't believe their 8.0 Liveletters can tip the scales for me, considering how recent announcements of features were hyping up disappointments during the last few Liveletters. So Dawntrail and what I can see and experience is all that can convince me to stay or leave.
I think that the game will never get better, or different.
It’s like, going at the park.
when you are a child everything is fun and colourful but when you get older you realise that the fun you had when you were a child is lost.
The problem is not the park, it is you who grew up and changed your expectations.
XIV is the park. It will never change its purpose.
It will continue to entertain children and they will eventually lose their interest once they will reach the point that most of the vets are now.
So…yep. Growing up kinda sucks, but it’s something of our lives.
Btw just in case it wasn’t clear, child/children = sprouts. It doesn’t mean who enjoys this game are necessarily kids.

Been on the game 10 years, stopped liking it after the 3rd year... bored... just sub once in a while because I own an FC and really like my members so I just sub to recruit and work on that FC.
I've been sharing idea's on the forums since but pretty much most of them were ignored sadly :p
People can still post in the forum after they've unsubbed for a while and during free login campaigns. I haven't paid for this game for almost 3 years (and I took a break from HW release to mid Endwalker before that).
I'll pay for a sub when they can get 2 expansion cycles consistently right and fix all their major issues. So, never.
So many comments about how you'll quit in 8.0.
Just quit now lmao
The game isn't going to get better. They're too busy making FF17 or whatever their other projects are.
Yeah I've only subbed for 1 of the past 16 months, at the DT launch. It was a struggle to get a month's worth of value even with a brand new expansion. Pathetic. They don't even release New Game +... Incomprehensible. Stupid, lazy or straight up disrespectful of players time and money. All 3?
Every patch can easily be completed on a 4 day free login and there's usually a couple of them in each patch cycle. Why do any of you bother paying?
I don't need to keep telling myself I'll unsub. I keep telling myself they'll make it worth my subscription again one day.
It's hard to let go of a game I've spent 11 years of my life involved with. I can criticize and be upset with its direction and it no longer providing content I enjoy, but still struggle to completely quit and move on.
A lot of the blame lies with Square, yes. But gamers will complain no matter what, in all fairness. Something is "fixed" that some people wanted fixed and other people didn't? The other half just starts complaining. The typical given criticism is "this bad, square bad LOL XD" doesn't make their life any easier, either.
Part of me wonder....why not clear the stuff you havent done get it done since dt wont hold ur attention XD
I think it's because not all content is for all folks. It becomes unreasonable for Square to expect people to pay a sub in order to do a thing they don't enjoy. Ultimately, I think square has kind of spread themselves thin trying to appeal to every possible player, which leads to players who enjoy specific things being kind of underwhelmed by content being drip fed or spread out. There's nothing wrong with folks looking around and saying 'Well, I did all I wanted to do, time to go do something else and drop my sub until they put in more stuff I want.'
Not to say you're trying to suggest people force themselves to do things mind you, but it's an argument I see often enough. Square has a hard job in that regard; how do you keep all the different types of players that you have drawn into the game happy? It's a rough scenario to face off against, particularly when other games specialize things and do them in superior fashions. Guild Wars 2 has excellent Net Code, events, and PVP, but their story is a bit lacking and the RP scene is non-existant. WoW does customization better, but is flooded with negative elements. Other MMO's as they come out will offer more and more modernized, niche content that will take away those niche gamers.
FFXIV is in the awkward 'trying to get them all' placement. Coupled with dated technology and an unwillingness to innovate or change from a tried-and-true method from a decade ago, they are being left behind by more modern approaches. Genshin Impact by the comparison has over 20 mil/month in revenue, and doesn't even have a sub. FFXIV (Factoring for 1 million players at 12$~ average sub) makes 12 mil a month, probably closer to 15~ with mogstation shenanigans and extra retainer fees, etc. They are already falling behind the revenue generation of free games, and that will only get worse.
This isn't to say I hate FFXIV or anything it's just monetarily, the business model is beginning to fail and can only get worse. Content wise, we've never seen content release this slow or drip-fed. The NetCode is still awkward, and the story is questionable for many. This kinda leaves people in a lurch, and as unsubs continue that revenue dive will continue. I want to see FFXIV succeed, I love the game, but it's difficult to justify paying for a game that is just dripping content and phoning in bonus material when its competitors are hungrily providing more modern, and more frequent content.
The revenue angle isn't just a problem for the people who are unsatisfied to crow about; the revenue loss will make it a problem for everyone in the community. This is why I find OP's sentiment so self-indicting. People leaving is good for no one; taunting them isn't sensible to do.
TL-DR; As Yoshi has said, not all content is for all folks. Some of us have already cleared the stuff we're interested in. But I hope others do follow your advice, if there's content left they haven't cleared yet.
Simple question, a simple answer... A game this size should be able to develop content across the board to the biggest demographics this game holds. A game of this size drip feeding content in this matter is disappointing at best.
Your proposal is essentially the same as me turning around to other players later in the expansion cycle, when they are starving for the content they want, and saying...
1. Why don't you do all levequests the game has to offer?
2. Why don't you do 3000 S Ranks, and 10,000 A-Ranks (That Endless Hunt title tho)
3. Why don't you go spend a good hundred hours in Diadem and a further 30-50 hours spam crafting for the Pteranodon mount.
4. Why don't you go win several hundred Frontline matches, and a thousand Rival Wings.
5. Why don't you go do Necromancer, and by the way enjoy the hamsters running the place, praying that you don't DC.
6. Why don't you go do every sightseeing log.
7. Why don't you go do the fishing log.
8. Why don't you go do Bozja all over again, I mean you can still get 10/10/10 Resistance Honors, right?
Some of us don't like the direction the game is going and show it in different ways.. Not subbing the extra retainers and app cuts their profits in half. Not buying ANYTHING from the shop cuts into their profit.
Just because someone pays the minimum to keep an active account bc of friends of a house doesn't mean they are not doing other things that cut into the profits. I personally don't sub my retainers or the app and have stopped buying from the shop.
In the past when I was happy with the game I have ALL the retainers, the app and constantly bought things from the shop knowing it was look nice in game but also that is helped them make money to grow and develop the game more.
Sometimes the biggest break in profits are from places you can't see them happening.. It's not a lot, but when you go from 33 USD per month plus shop items to 12.99 USD per month, it adds up..
I mean sure but how many ppl completed sight logs fishing triple triads collecting mounts minions doing arr heaven ward stormblood shadow bringer endwalker relics palace of dead heaven on high eureka orthos hell unlock the mounts in gold saucer unlocked all fate zones completed arr - endwalker beast tribes thats just to name a few things to do.
Right? You can only use one title at the same time. Only sit on one mount. Only summon one minion. I don't know what's the point of clearing every possible farm in the game when the gameplay itself is stale. Plus friends are unsubbing, so it's not even worth it for the sake of socializing. There had been so many possibilities to introduce new gameplay in DT, several suggestions from the playerbase to improve the game.
I feel this. I have two FCs and personal housing for RP, because that kept me very entertained. I'd hate to lose it and that's the only reason I am still subbed. But also, once I let go, I am not going to grind from scratch for a new FC, plots and Gil. Perhaps I would get a trial account for RP, but then I would also only log in to max my MSQ and RP.
After over 15 years of WoW I understand the pain. But the game burned just so many bridges in terms of lore, story and gameplay for me. That I never looked back and never intend to pay for their products ever again.
FFXIV wont earn my loyalty by anything but stellar performance. And I am sensing the lack of care for story, worldbuilding and gameplay slowly surmount. The lack of wish for any significant change from the community that enjoy just raidlogging once or twice a week isnt a good sign either.
Square has until 8.0 for me and Im gone.
I didn't unsub entirely but I did start subbing only every other 30 days to keep my housing plots.
The only good thing if push comes to shove would be if they screw up more and FFXIV dies due to their idiocy then their biggest cash cow will take that cash with it to the grave, so they can't produce the slop they love to spend FFXIV sub money on anymore. And maybe it'll even kill/hurt SE, who knows.
Dunno, but it would be a sight to behold.
While I don't wish that to happen I lost basically all my faith in the devs at this point and turning it all around would be akin to a miracle to me.
Cause for that they would need to deliver amazing MSQ and lots of good content to warrant being sub-based.
Cause right now F2P games have more content releases per month than FFXIV has in half a year.
To leave, no. This extension is crap, I'll come back for the MSQ because I still want to know what happens next, but I'm not going to stay active for the whole extension.
Like a lot of people, we never stop playing FFXIV, we'll come back for the next expansion.
It's like WoW Refugees, they're always replaying their MMOs from another age.
It's not as if FFXIV since HW has always been crap, it's a bad expansion, if I don't like the MSQ the rest follows, because re-doing the same dungeons week after week gets boring at some point. I'm stuffing 3 Jobs: Tank/SAM/SGE and I'll be back later.
In Dawntrail and the previous one, I'd set everything to max, but now I really don't feel like it...
There's a lot of talk about HealerStrike, but it's the fault of all the noobs who hang out in the wheels, who still wants to play Heal for a Tank that takes 1 pack and trots between the 2?
I prefer Tank myself and Dps. It's not that Heal is a hard job.
In short, FFXIV bores me, I'm not leaving FFXIV, I'm going to play something else while I wait for what interests me to come along.
Is this your first MMO?
People invest huge amounts of time and money into these types of games. The achievements, mounts, minions, gear, glamour, social network, etc. that they collect over time represent that investment and it's fairly normal for people to not want to move on and leave them behind.
The point at which the state of the game becomes bad enough to outweigh the sunk cost will vary from player to player but everyone has a breaking point. Once they reach it, they will move on and get settled somewhere else, at which point it becomes very difficult to get them back.
This is essentially what happened in WoW. People stuck it out through WoD and BFA before things finally got bad enough in Shadowlands that people just weren't willing to stick around any more. 6.1-6.5 was pretty dire. Dawntrail hasn't been great so far. If things haven't improved by 8.0 then I really don't think it's looking good for XIV.
Dog this isn't the 500 IQ take you think it is. This is the exact same nonsense people were saying in WoW. And guess what. People left WoW. That's why it has 4 different versions of the game running at the moment to keep players hooked.
And in before sexual harassment lawsuit take. WoW was hemorrhaging players long before this happened.
Also, to add a large and I mean large chunk of that playerbase didn't follow that news and didn't believe it happened. Free Hong Kong and the breastmilk situation went over all my old Wow friend's heads. Either blissfully ignorant or willingly, they all chugged on. When everyone left, they noticed, but the game had to fall off a cliff first.
I mean, anyone capable of posting here pretty much has to be subbed. If you log out for 14 days, your forum account won't let you sign in anymore. 99% of the people you are talking to can only reply back because they are subbed. This forum guarantees that you are incapable of talking to someone who quit.
I absolutely unsubbed though. This game was offering me nothing that I enjoyed gameplay-wise, so I quit. The only reason I can even post this is because I logged on yesterday through the free login period.
You are wrong though. Yes there are reasons to keep subs. Its mostly FOMO for events and PvP pass, and so they don't lose housing. Without those reasons, people will easily cancel sub and wait till next expansion or even longer. I log on to do Frontline, and step into FC house every day. Its a daily chore for me. I wouldn't even do that, but I am the FC leader and my one sub lets everyone else drop theirs while we play other shit.
While there probably is a measure of sunken cost fallacy in some cases, I think you're also underestimating the power of hope. Someone loved something about the game before. They desperately want it back. So they keep waiting and hoping. It's a powerful emotion.
I'm not at that point with XIV but I can empathize because for me it's the Assassin's Creed series. I just can't seem to completely let it go, even when I know I probably should. I just keep hoping to see the things I miss come back. So I completely get it for anyone who is like that with XIV.
Unsubbed, there you go.
Valention Event not even bare minimum.
Hilda hair a mockery to the situation.
Looking forward to the LL update in 15h.
Preparing for disappointment.
You fool, when you know content and accept it and enjoy you never quit . HAHAHAHAHAAHA
I'll probably let my sub lapse every now and then, but I doubt I'll quit for good, I generally enjoy the content the game has to offer and I enjoy a few rounds of Frontlines during the week.
I don't expect the game to change course all that much, but I enjoy the game for what it is than what it isn't.
