i do but only because of a combination of farming for alpha wolf and sunken cost fallacy and having nowhere else to go
I'm still playing fairly regularly with friends, but that's mostly hanging out, and mostly taking it as an opportunity to work on my other character.
It's a good investment, but it's also a massive risk, taking a game offline for over a year will just encourage more people to move on completely, since they wouldn't really be bound to the game.
and honestly, they can update the game into oblivion.. But it's the content that matters and if they're just going to stick to the same rigid schedule then all it will amount to is those people that do return, inevitably getting bored and burnt out again.
A Realm Reborn Reborn?
I'm not sure about how many people are actually burnt out. I still continue to play, but I've tempered playtime with other Real Life(tm) activities. Things like tabletop RPGs, reading, binge watching an enormous number of Chinese donghua, trips abroad and, of course, work.
Be truthful here. If any game went offline for 2 years and came back, would you really feel 'energized' and subscribe again? Or would you have already moved on to something else?
People did with A Realm Reborn. I think they would subscribe again.
While upgrading the engine, they can just do a whole rebranding. Take this time to re-think of new ways on how content updates would be delivered. Revamp the whole 'rigid schedule' format. Introduce new things, revamp how the overworld zones work. Get a new writer.
To be honest, if they ever want to ever upgrade the engine, is there better time to do it than now? Do they want this to last another 15-20 years? I cannot think of a better time than now.
I'm not saying nobody will return, but just a question as to how many really. Like, if I am honest, I probably wouldn't
To be honest, it's a nice principle, but they have already had a long long time to look at the patch schedule, they know there's a constant fall off between patches, they know people are dissatisfied, they are already asking "Why aren't your friends currently playing", they have been asking this for a long time. They shouldn't have to ask it, they should understand why, and given how long it has festered for, it really does tell me that they aren't really that interested in doing a rebrand in any hypothetical scenario.
Still playing every day but less compared to before due to content drought. so just running roulettes and then back to other games
Playing less, I did my first expert roulette in like a month or two, last night.
Mostly I just log in to roleplay (even that community has dwindled a bit) and to send my submarines away.
I knocked out ALL the sidequests from all DT maps, just to make the maps clean. Got a few orchestrions and a minion out of ALL those quests, but it's something.
If you aren't into the DDR dance events of extreme, savage and ultimate, there's just not much to do unless you dip into forever achievements or ancient content
Hell, I even leveled all jobs to 100 this expac, kudos to the pvp design team, at least THEY are doing something right with how unique the jobs feel, though some changes felt a bit weird.
If I didn't have an FC or a roleplay community, I'd unsub faster than the speed of light.
The story and the content of DT aggravated my preexisting issues with the game and while I used to be able to overlook it, I simply can't anymore with this expansion. That, and trying savage for the first time last expansion and struggling through it so much kinda killed my zest for battle content out of shame. It's my own damn fault and not the game's, but it does make the lack of "casual" content right now all the more apparent.
All my battle and gathering jobs are at 100 now and been slowly chipping away at crafting, but mostly waiting for the crafting society to come out I guess. That sums up most of my engagement with FFXIV lately. Waiting.
i cba to login since post EW patches
doing the bare minimum to maintain my acc
For sure, although it started even before DT. After Endwalker, the patches didn't keep me interested and I visited the game very unfrequently during about a year. I only kept my sub to keep my house, which I still enjoy decorating.
I've been playing DT exclusively with friends which keeps it interesting and makes it last longer, and I've been trying to get back into the game by levelling other classes and exploring other content that I never bothered to try before.
But once we finish DT MSQ... who knows. I don't trust the patches to keep us interested so we will probably fall off the face of the earth until the next expansion...
Which is unfortunate because before reaching end game, I would take long breaks before starting the next expansion and do plenty of side content and now it feels like even the patches can't keep us interested.
Definitely. I haven't even bothered to finish patch 7.1's MSQ. That's NEVER been the case for me in 10 years of playing this game. I just find myself not caring now, and I log in maybe once or twice a week at best. The only reason I'm still subbed, is because of my houses. And at some point, that will probably not be enough to keep paying the sub.
I play less, but not because of the story. The story has always been a one-and-done thing for me that has zero bearing on the end-game loop, which is where the vast majority of play time goes. It was a step down this expac, but as soon as I was done with it, I forgot about it moved on, as always. I read a lot, so I'm not feeling bereft of good stories, anyway.
I just realized that the grind for pretty much anything wasn't worth it. I don't care about playing make-believe dress-up, I don't care about jobs I'm never going to play seriously, I don't care about running a billion boring-ass FATEs for nothing, I can buy anything crafted I need, etc. So I cap tomes, get my weekly 24-man coin, and do static nights, and that just feels so much better and healthier than dumping a ridiculous amount of time into the game for nothing, which I did with previous expansions.
I think the faces are largely an improvement, but sometimes there's this weird segmented lighting that just looks...wrong.\
It's gotten steadily worse, I think. The WoW refugees may not be all bad but I definitely feel they opened Pandora's box, and once exposed to that aggression, toxicity, and progression at all costs, people started reacting to it. And just like real life, when one extreme gets too vocal, people who have a problem with it go all in on the other extreme.
FF14 has also given up a lot lately to cater to hardcore or progression players, or for gimmicks like trusts. While there are exceptions, a lot of gameplay feels the same. A lot of company feels worse. And without the story to carry it, if you don't have a good circle of peers to do SOMETHING with, there's no point in being online. Dawntrail might legitimately be FF14's Warlords of Draenor.
I was playing it more tbh, I was enjoying the reward grind in FL. Then 7.1 PVP update dropped and it's everything I didn't want. I would gladly go back to the DRK domination meta. Surely the 7.2 FL update will fix everything though, surely :)
I definitely play less of XIV nowadays, only to log to resend ventures & keep my house while I play another game or work on another tab.
Often enough, there are FCmates & my few, packed CWLS that kept the experience enjoyable. But they’re running thinner as more and more of those names turns from bright white to dull grays.
My gripes? Too much. But I think I’ve said enough in this forums at this point.
It's really just the constant repeated sameness.
everything feels so templated out and rinse-and-repeat it's like I'm burnt out before i even start
I mean like I know it's still the same base game but look at FFXI as an example, despite all it's problems every expansion had wildly different new activities. It's not just treasure hunt, exact same thing with different scenery, exact same thing with different scenery, over and over
The graphics change has been the killer for me. All my alts are sidelined because I'd rather remember them as they were, and any time I do log in with them I hate seeing how they look now; my main has lost her spark and her sweet wide-eyed look and I miss how she used to be. I've still played content as it comes out, mostly, but I've lost interest in glamouring.
I would say the state of the game is worse than the infamous 434 day WoW content drought. The stagnation has been ongoing for probably 2 years at this point. I'm personally tired of being fed recycled content with a new skin and I'm sure most of the community is by now as well.
I combine the droughts from Post Endwalker with Dawntrail and post Dawntrail patches. Endwalker had some of the Worst patches in this games history. 6.3 for instance might as well not have existed for how littled it offered. The fatigue from all this recycled content, and weak patches carries on, but now since the story sucks and half the community seems to be skipping cut scenes, and losing faith that 7.0 will offer anything worth resubbing for, the loss of players has only accelerated, it's a chain reaction. I honestly don't see anyway for them to fix this without making sacrifices to Dawntrail to make 8.0 something you wouldn't want to miss. Just like how WoD was sacrificed so extra development was put into making Legion fantastic.
I have logged in way less this expac. I did not really like the changes to my character and also the story was nothing special and not what I enjoyed. I just tend to run old content as I enjoy it more..I have a house and just enjoy doing that here and there but the story really did nothing for me and I liked the Island sanctuary but now its just go in and do my workshop and get a firework lol. I hope they look at the MSQ and bring back some of the old characters and magic as it feels flat.
On the contrary, I play more cos I'm kinda bored of Diablo 4. Catching up on Island Sanctuary, leveling DOL/DOH smelling the roses along the way.
LMAO.
You got doxxed for being two-faced. I've literally seen your Balance posts where you mentioned you kicked members from your group for not doing enough damage and shit talking their abilities. You also constantly deny that you use mods yet I've seen your Discord posts asking for help with them (over 300 mods installed!).
I dont even log to afk anymore
My log in/activity remained the same. I was never the type to log in and socialise, I log in to do content.
Yeah I'm playing far less too, I'm not too bothered with the game at the moment & lost a lot of interest with the story, and even simple things like gearing up my character.
I used to log in daily to run content even during post-EW & always enjoyed my time, but now I'm logging to run content maybe once a week and that's just for map runs with friends.
