I am sorry you aren't having fun with it all.
Though, for myself, this is exactly the kind of game I was hoping it would be. There is plenty to improve upon, yes, but if I always focused on stuff like that then I don't think I would have fun with anything. I spent literal years hoping from various games just looking for the "home" game for myself, and so glad I found this one.
With that being said, my cup of tea isn't the next person's cup of coffee so you do you. I do hope you find a game that gives you the same level of enjoyment!
Only reason I'm on FF14 is cause I can't find another MMO that interests me. I jump between FF14 and ESO but both have pretty much soured with time and I just can't stay on either for long periods of time anymore.
You are not 100% wrong but despite the memes or ERP community, XIV actually has good fights, from casual extremes to savage/ultimates. One of XIV's weaknesses and strength is that it has basically NO GRIND. Getting geared up takes no time at all compared to other MMOs, tomes are free, not having savage gear won't get you gatekept from any content, except parsing groups.
In other MMOs, especially kMMOs you don't get the luxury to "sit in Limsa" or whatever, any minute you are not doing content you are wasting time and getting behind, there's no such pressure in XIV, that's why it will always have people, you can take months break and come back like nothing happened and still do the latest content. Try to do this in Lost Ark, for example, you gonna have an interesting experience.
The downside is yeah, it will get boring at times if you don't care for pretty colors in a website, already did all Savage/Ultimate content and don't care for the social aspects.
Can't see game though excess levels of bloom, can't even ERP now.
Square pleez.
This is one of those baits that's actually kinda true.
Oh my god did people actually take this bait? Lmfaooooooooo I love it. It's beautiful
It's shorthand for "Extreme Raid Progression" and the term comes from back in the day before Alexander when the hardest raids in the game were extremes. It's how they pug'd in the city states before duty roulette. So the next time you need a fill for your raid prog just go and ask someone "Hey, do you wanna ERP with me?"
It's also common practice to announce in shout chat when your party fills for raid. You just put "I'm off to ERP!" in Limsa's shout chat before you enter the instance as is tradition. Hope this helps
Apparently people only play this game to buy gil off titan men accounts, seeing as you have so god damn many of them. I saw you botting the other day on one of them. I wonder how many people in that giant rp fc of yours also bot.
I'd ask if you have friends or a hobby, but you spend more time on these forums these days than I do so.....
Idling and E/RP really are the things I look at and go "that's what I'll do when I'm bored of the jobs and other core content, if nothing else keeps working out, at least I can idle and look at nice things" and then the graphic update microwave deep fried the whole game and smeared with vaseline
I literally just sub to post on a forum now
Square has defeated me
I can't even accept my existence as a Broil bot
Oh well people play Punch Out blindfolded and I've ran WAR through a dungeon on 260 ping to Japan and couldn't see a thing, maybe where there is a will there is a way
I stick around because I enjoy the game. When I don't feel like playing it, I play other things. I'm not sure why people would stick around if they weren't enjoying it, that's $15 a month that could go to something else. (Fields of Mistria is only $13 on Steam atm and it's excellent if you like stuff like Stardew)
Housing plots
Same as every MMO. Every noticed how all the top MMOs are ancient? It's sunk cost fallacy, nostalgia and inability to let go. I'm not even criticizing or anything, that's partially the case for me too. At least I still play new single player stuff, so I find my relationship with video gaming is still relatively healthy.
Know some people who play games like LOTRO and such, exclusively as well, who are just... stuck? There's about zero enjoyment they even get out of it. There's hardly any content they have left to do, sometimes legitimately NOTHING left to do. They know every inch of the game, too tired of criticizing legitimate issues that the devs ignore for 10s of years. Log in out of habit. Run around out of habit. Do a crappy seasonal event out of habit for a crappy reward nobody will use, out of habit. Say hi in guild chat out of habit, other people reply out of habit. Log out an hour later out of habit. Some vegetable level gaming.
Applies to all these MMOs and to many of their players. Not to all though. Nothing you can do about it either. Just make sure you're not one of those people and move on.
Find some new recipes to grind out HC, the endless cobalt ingots have gotten to your head.
You were making sense, as sad as it was to say ;) But this is the start of a slip back towards your normal habits.
The troll is not even concealed this time.
Housing plots, illegal mod QoL, roleplay and community/friends. It sure as heck isn't the gameplay
Because players are lazy and conformists.
I completely oppose mods but Yoshida is doing nothing to prevent them which is pretty unfair. The game looks like 10 years old crap but players are still happy with it, they don't seem to complain that we only have pretty faces but PS3 bodies.
Personally I want much better body models, I don't care how the dev team does it, I don't care if all NPCs look like shabby FFX characters as long as my character looks great.
I could use mods to have my characters look great but they are illegal under ToS. Mods are also mediocre since the ones that create them do it however they want and they are too different from the "vanilla" models so an official solution would be better, that is remodeling all character bodies to conform to current standards and not old PS3 stuff.
MMO games should NOT live more than 10 years but while they continue to make money the developers will continue to milk players.
Now this I can agree with.
FFXIV drama is peak.

Best? Dunno, SL drama makes FF drama look like a kindy kid in church. I mean SL drama is bat-cap crazy.
Edit: Come to think of it, SL drama makes Sena look sane enough to be the US president.
I follow the money. If the game has a lot of subscribers, it is drawing players - for whatever reason. Maybe not every idea SE has is gold, but enough of it is. The proof is in the pudding.
Did someone mention the fear of dropping something that you spend a lot of time and money into it?
I guess there is a ton of players who just can't let go even if the game doesn't bring much fun anymore. Just because of this.
For new players it's a great game with a lot of content. But for longterm players the always repeating forumla becomes very boring at some point. On top the issues of the game get not solved over so many years.
But..., as I've said before, those many years spending time and money into 14 make lots of people stay and hope for better times again.
In my opinion that's one point why people stay. But I also think that the modding community keeps it alive for a lot of people. Even if it is forbidden.
I am personally not a big fan of all the modding stuff. I like the idea that every player on every plattform can see 'the same'. But I have understanding for all people who want actual hands and feet, hats and hairstyles no matter what race, normal upper male bodies and similar stuff that should be available vanilla in the game anyway for years.
My reason for sticking around is mostly my FC and the friends I have in-game. I like doing stuff with friends.
I like to play and finish games I've paid for. I haven't even seen DT yet.
sunk cost fallacy
The only reason I'm staying is that I have alot of 'memories' related to my house and FC, and the MSQ. Memories is all that's keeping me chained to this game. Also, there's no appealing alternative. I played GW2 for like 5-6 years before I started this game, and I burnt out completely from it and I hate what it has become. WoW? Hm, I considered it but subbing to another MMO is too much for me.
I think I'm too tired to start a new MMO, XIV burnt me out socially that I only spend time alone in it. I guess I fall into the lonewolf category. I enjoy PF alot though, but alot of encounters put me off due to low visual clarity.
Mods for this game are akin to what the community is doing for Skyrim. I honestly don't care what people see on their client, it doesn't affect me at all. I wish they'd give us something other than sausage fingers?? My face is high poly but my body is low poly...it stands out even more now. Idk how they didn't bother to update that too lmao
Wow I'm really impressed! It doesn't look like Skyrim at all, this sounds like AI voices though? It's super interesting. I think Skyrim would've died long ago, I'm surprised it's still going! I remember my ex telling me about it back when it was fresh...
I don't want to judge, but as long as I don't see that cursed shit on my screen....you do you. Though I think you traumatized me abit with that...painfully tiny waist and massive booba my back hurts. My therapy is on you.
Yeah, lots of AI voicing in Skyrim now, along with many player made DLCs with good voice acting. Better than Dawntrail unironically lmfao

They even have... Actual accents based on race!

So hilarious that a player made mod is unironically better than FF14
Actually it impacts all of us. Player-side demand creates change in behavior on the side of developers (both official and unofficial).
There is a reason why Skyrim modders are talking about remaking Oblivion in Skyrim, and have done things like implementing Dark Souls combat in Skyrim, modernizing UI to look like stuff from top third person action games like Jedi Survivor, or writing deep stories like Vigilant that is similar to a fully fleshed out version of the DRK Lv30-50 questline. And just look at any screenshot of modern Skyrim. It looks more next gen than actual next gen titles. Because Skyrim players want them.
We don't have any of that in FF14 and it's not just because it's an online game. There's no texture overhauls to make the landscapes look pristine or to make forests feel denser. There's no UI overhaul that makes you feel like you're playing an action game. There's no writing overhaul to reimagine the storyline or to fix plotholes. All of these can be done with the engine since it's all client-sided. The official devs also have like no incentive to modernize the game because FF14 players genuinely don't know better. They don't know what the potential can be.
AI voices, ew
I'm really impressed, it doesn't look like skyrim at all. The voice acting is actually pretty decent for AI..but to respond to your other comment.
You're partially correct, SE doesn't innovate because why change things when there's someone else providing players with QoL. Only when it 'blows up' in some kind of scandal like WF or something do they ban the guy and implement a worse version of a plugin. I don't think SE is capable of bringing the level of QoL third party provides to the game, I don't think they understand what the players want/need. This is why I disagree with you on that.
SE is a japanese company and that's a can of worms on its own. I'd say a survey after each patch would be great, like a customer satisfaction of sorts, but I highly doubt this would happen because it probably requires investing into some kind of way to analyze this feedback and it assumes everyone can provide honest feedback.
I doubt anything you're suggesting would ever come to this game because I think this isn't the kind of game. They want to tell a story and for you to consume it, that's it. I think they're really detached from the playerbase and it shows. We need competition because as long as XIV is on top, no innovation is going to happen, but I think the genre is kinda...stagnant? I doubt anything will blow something out of the water, barring an actual disaster, which I'm seeing DT being from what I'm reading and what my friends are saying about the MSQ.
I doubt we'd get custom maps or story lines, god knows I'd love to reimagine alot of EW so I can save that one blonde garlean man. I also want to explore an ending where you go alone to the Tempest to meet Emet. I think if such a thing existed, it'd be amazing, the roleplay potential and the wol story potential would be....off the roof. I'd love to fantasize about it, but realistically speaking, the only medium such ideas can be explored is...fanfiction.
I'll admit, I don't know what the potential of this game can be aside from wanting/missing QoL from other games....how many times did people cry to lift off the restrictions on glam and rework the glamour dresser? This game is basically the cow that is being milked to fund failures like Forspoken and scary announcements like NFTs and mobile games. They don't pour enough into this game though it generates so much for them.
I guess we got a graphical update that broke alot of shit and went kame hame ha on my eyes. I would've rather them take time than deliver half baked product.
I think mods are usually made by passionate players for other players. The same way mods/plugins are made for this game. Devs are detached too + language barrier.
Sorry, rant long, thoughts fragmented, might read abit weird.
Yush.
I said before many times, like 80% of the player base (PC players) are""""""""""""" playing""""""""""""" this game like Skyrim with 25000 mods installed, dedicated plugins / addons that leave clients like Second Life in pampers. Those are the whales that keep SE happy and doing the minimum effort.
