I may not be quite a tester you are, and I play like normal game, but i always do report them bugs ;-)
And I think that if they take the game down for us, it would be nice to be in the beta.

What are you talking about? Legacy players have been playing the beta for 2 years.
i dont think its unfair to let some players at least have some sort of chance at an advantage considering some of them have 2 years of faith and money put in with FFXIV. To completely disregard those players are, to say the least, a bit rude. Its not against the law or anything like that lol but service wise, its unsatisfactory.
I have to protest about this whole "eating shit" thing!
Only a small part of the Legacy players actually really sticked around when the game flopped at the start of 1.0.
Those are the people you can throw shit on and they will still like it.
Most Legacy players just kept an eye on the game because they thought it had potential and that's why they were informed enough to return at some point when there were enough changes to make the game playable again.
Saying the 1.0 generation can't give good feedback just because they played 1.0 is stupid.
@Punainen: Probably because Europeans experience more latency problems than Americans and Japanese?
I'm not saying we should get priority, just guessing why KumaAkuma said it :)
If they need to test server stress anyways then might as well let us all in.
Yes, and i dont think those are the people that are actually giving a crap. I thought most of whom are posting knew that those who voice out the legacy status are the players that actually stayed in the game for 2 years.
Your posting a rebute about a fact that everyone knows common sense wise, are the exception.
Wait a second! This scenario sounds like something I heard before when having to do with entitlement!
Let's replace Legacy members thinking that S/E is entitled to giving them priority for 2.0 beta because they pay them money and have faith in them with.... men thinking their girlfriend owes them sex because they give money and put faith in them! Eh!? Eh!!?!?
Moral of the story: S/E owes you NOTHING!!!!
Good thing YoshiP doesn't share your point of view.
Yeah. I've been playing since alpha beta, day 1. I deserve to be in this. Im gonna be very disappointed if not. Sorry. If you think new people should I say no to that. You give up your spot online to someone who hasn't been around. I wanna beta test it.
And that's fine, I didn't say that legacy players shouldn't be allowed in. I said I wanted a healthy balance and a healthy mix between people who sticked around for 2 years, along with legacy members, along with people who got up in droves and left the game and slammed it with negative reviews, and along with new players that never touched FF14 before.
Been playing this character since September 22 2010 i bet i wont get beta lol
Meh, if they have too many new players in the Beta it will be a bad thing for the game. The new players will shit on most everything, demand more WoW standards and then when the game releases, they wont play anyways .
lmao but SE can do w/e they want...
i believe we are getting into beta i also heard that from someone today who was at some kind of anime convention and was at the ffxiv stand there. and besides when the server shut down wut are we gonna do in between?
GW2 is not my style *Slams door* :P
I understand what many of you guys are saying, but being a new player, I think it would be good to have a mix. Many of you have been here since the beginning. It makes sense you want special status, but SE needs a broad range of opinions, including the inexperienced.
It is wrong to think we are all WoW players, or even that all WoW players are "bad". I don't know, this seems very immature. I am an old starcraft and FF12 player. I do not want WoW, I would actually be content to keep playing 1.0. I did not know about 2.0 until last week.
edit: I hope the veterans get something.. Maybe a mini Ifrit pet? Haha.. I don't know if this is WoW-like. Are there pets in WoW?
Who said ONLY Legacy players get Beta?
We get a special chocobo + reduced price + 8 slots per server with up to 40 chars across servers + a name in the credits.Quote:

Starting with game conferences and the like seems sound. It's a quick way to get people who are interested in and often knowledgeable in a range of games relevant to FFXIV. Many may also carry the news to more people than, say, your average player when left to lottery. This helps both advertisement and feedback.
If Yoshi's looking for fresh views on the game as a whole, Legacy may not be the best base to go off of. Having some would be handy, but only enough to gauge the opinions of the crowd already paying for the game -- it's a matter of use, not entitlement.
An application system might be useful after that. -How helpful is your feedback?- And in that, perhaps factors like total playtime possible, and focuses and preferences for gaming.
There should be another application for Beta, if you want in, apply. I would hope they would gather a variety of player types from different regions around the world, that way it would be a balanced test.
IF - there is a priority based on playtime and "dedication" as some put it, I don't think necessarily that Legacy Members (paying for 3 months of game play?) should get priority but those people who have played the game actively from the beginning. If there was a form of priority after the application process I would consider those to be dedicated players who deserve a priority.
I don't think there will be random invites but I cannot make up the minds of SE and regardless of their decision I am not going to /rage quit because of it. I consider myself lucky, my husband was in Alpha and I was in Closed Beta for FFXIV. I hope to be in again but, I wont be one to waste energy getting disgruntled over something I cannot change. So here is hoping for the best and YAY FOR OPEN BETA!!! :D
I do hope to be apart of it and present feedback. I am excited to see the way the game has transformed and looking forward to testing all its facets.
So when did they say there is only 2k beta slots?
It should be a fine mixture of new and old players. Perhaps they will be willing to do a couple beta weekends so everyone gets a chance to try it out, Closed one is first stress test of new servers, Closed 2 will be increase in population and other elements and then obviously open beta (Which I wonder if that actually is referring to the free trial period since it is about the same time they said before)
Looks like the people who didn't take time to create feedback tickets or entered in polls that were posted for limited time for collecting data most likely will not be entered that seems legit xD
I aggree with OP, but onestly I would refuse the offer to go info beta. Need to complete so mano tings before 2.0 that I want to stick to 1.0 as long as I can.
As much as I want to be in Beta, to be honest I think it would be nice to have random players into the beta...new people who will have the chance to experience the game fresh, and tell their friends (who more than likely: a. never heard of ffxiv or b. Lost all interest after launch)
I think, in a way, it will help with that advertising the game some people here on the forums were going on about.
Don't get me wrong, I really want to be in beta. And I am a legacy player, but I'm also trying to see this game succeed by any means necessary through the efforts of not only the game dev's, but the player base as well. And we need as many people experiencing this game as possible to help get it out of the hole it's currently in.
We current players already know most of the improvements that are coming for us. While people who don't keep up with this game know next to nothing, and probably wont bother without hands-on gamplay. That's why I feel it would help.
I can act like a new player! Pick me!
yeah i think any1 who stuck it out as long as the legacy players have especially ppl like me who have been playing since CB should be given 1st choice for if they want a beta spot for 2.0 i can kinda understand them getting new ppl to increase interest in the game but still we the ppl who been on the pay2play list a lil customer service would be appreciated
I want to agree with legacy getting 2.0 beta priority (as i am one) but i would rather people who will actually give feedback to SE where they need to improve instead of players who want to just play for a few days to get a sneak peak at 2.0 then not to log on to give feedback wasting a spot in the beta.
SE needs to deny the players who played first beta who didnt send a single report or did not play for over half the first beta and allow people who did give feedback the chance to get back in and obviously give new people the chance to give there feedback either if they play the game as it stands now or players coming from other MMO's.
It would also be a good idea if SE gave beta to players who have played a long time in ffxiv (e.g over half its life) since these players would have more idea's of what the game needs in 2.0.
We dont want a repeat of last time this would kill the game completly in the eyes of the gaming community.
well i just cant imagine that they just cut us off like that ... and i think the players who play since release are the best ppl they can get , cause they know the game the longest.
As long as the beta doesn't have a massive NDA I'm fine with not being in it.
This isn't a message I can support.
A lot of people seem to forget that feedback cannot be implemented right away in a beta. they would have to be doing beta tests NOW in order to be able to implement feedback for launch in january.
seeing the timeline of the beta, it will be to fix major bugs. test hardware compatibility. and to test the new servers. more than likely: That's all that will be tested. so the other objective of the beta is to generate hype.
Those of us already playing already like the game. hearing from us isn't gonna do crap to convince new players to come on board. IE: if i were to make the call i would make it at least 80% people who have not played the game or people who's account stats has been inactive for more than a year.
feedback on the new UI and content will be welcome. but in all reality what are they going to be able to change at that point? if it's not a bug it's pretty much as is. at the beta stage the game is pretty much complete.
It took almost a full year from release for the game to be playable. the timeline some people think of is ridiculous. you're not goign to be able to provide the kind of feedback you want. this is a beta test.
