Japanese VAs have consistency because their job is simple: just be characters.

English VAs have to carry a whole of extra baggage. In the rare case that it works (Leina in ShB, or Urianger), they do hit a higher ceiling. But for the most part, they come across forced and weird. For some reason, a common trend is they seem always try to make the female VAs a bit more "sassy" comparing to the Japanese version, to the point they would be willing to alter the script/translation to match. And because the characters are originally conceived by Japanese, a lot of time these change just come across un-natural. Again, sometime it works like Y'shtola. But Krile's English VA basically gave her an alternate personality comparing to the Japanese VA, and it's a lot worse.


And that were the cases before DT where you have (a few)hits and (a lot of) misses. DT's English VA direction are just bad across the entire board. Wuk is the worst offender and thus she become the poster child, but she's not the only one who sound bad in DT.

Every can choose for themselves. I'm fine with the EN VA for the most part. The only ones I couldn't stand were Yda and ARR Minfilia. I know the original Alphinaud gets hate and yet I think the voice acting fit the character's personality at the time perfectly. That's the important part - is the VA getting the character's personality across to the audience.

i dont actually watch that much anime. ive watched dbz (in english) and naruto (in japanese) and some smaller animes here and there but thats about it.
i kinda feel the opposite. i dont like the overacting that british voice actors tend to do. the too shakespear like stuff.

since im not a native english speaker and only speak it out of nescesity(Sp?). i dont feel any particular loyalty to it. so i prefer to watch stuff in the language it was written in that's all.
i also hate censorship. and the localisation censored alot.

in their defense tho i switched to japanese during ARR. if i started in stormblood i probably wouldve just stayed in english.
and there is really good voice acting in english. but overall i feel the japanese are higher quality

the english ones that really stood out to me were:
Brosetsu
Zenos
Asashi/fandaniel
hermes/fandaniel
ardbert
gaius(after ARR)
emet-selch(altho i love his japanese va)
Lyna
Nidhana

if i had to make a list for japanese ones it would be too damn long but the main ones that are so much better imo are Haurchefant, Elidibus, Venat and Meteion. especially the last 2 are just so incredible its like night and day.
oh and the whole dawntrail cast is just miles and miles above the english. Wuk lamat, galool ja ja and zoraal ja in particular.
