pretty cutscenes
Damn, wiped around 10% life. He got a lucky meteor down, thing survived with like 1% life. >_>
This is false, Golems are a distraction only. The fight is quite simple. Don't have anyone stand on the stairs, as that seems to trigger his 9999 damage beak move. During second stage while meteors fall, place a BLM on each middle-tier pad. We also split a WHM and BRD between the two pads as well. Can ignore the Golems (hint: they also can be slept) and send your meelee DPS up top where you'll fight a shielded Darnus. As long as no meteors hit the ground (i.e., your BLM/BRDs didn't screw up), Mega Flare will hit for less than 2k. Darnus will port to the ground, which is where we ran to finish off the last 5%. We think it might be easier to just stay at the top, and let him run back up the stairs, which he'll likely do as he still has hate on the tank.
The only trick to this fight, is to kill the meteors, which is reminiscent of killing Nails/protecting rocks for Ifrit/Garuda.
honestly, the execution of the story is done really well- especially considering they basically had to switch gears when yoshi took over and figure out how to make it transition seamlessly into the 2.0 relaunch. while you could say it feels a bit rushed compared to stuff like CoP and WotG... it *was* rushed. really rushed. with a barebones crew, no less. and they still did a pretty fantastic job in spite of that.
hats off to yoshi and the devs. i'm really looking forward to where they take the story in 2.0 and beyond.
I would like to try out all these strategies but I can't get into the fight due to server congestion -_-
how do you deal with the aoes at the end? If you stay near the guy his circle aoe hits everyone but if you stay away the distance aoe hits everyone
He has two circular AoE's. One that is close around him that causes knockback, and a doughnut shaped one that siphons HP and MP.
The following (MSPAINT!) picture shows roughly what I'm talking about.
D is Darnus.
Red represents the AoE of his knockback move.
Yellow represents the AoE of the siphon HP/MP move.
Green represents a safe zone between these two where your mages and BRDs can stand and not get hit by either.

Note that this is not drawn to scale is only used to represent what I'm trying to say.
The "Safe Zone" moves as Darnus moves, so you have to be aware of how he's positioned.
My group just won. At the end we split the mages up on the middle tiers. Had 2 Blm and a whm on one and a blm amd a whm on the other. The other. The 2 Blm focused on the meteor closest to them and the Blm and both whm focused on the other side. We killed the Golems but it didnt do anything. Eventually he megaflares and it only hit me as a blm for 1800. Then you just fight like you have been until you win. No mor surprises.
I'm gonna add to this.
From 100-50% in Phase 2, watch his teleports. If he teleports not where he does the beam moves (outer circle) and teleports to a person, he does Lunar Dynamo, so get in close. Also prior to 50% he'll say stuff like "I shall not suffer pain of life/death..." when he goes to summon a lunar fragment.
When you get his health past 50% in Phase 2, he does a weaponskill chain by doing two knock back AoE (Iron Curtail?) then followed Lunar Dynamo. The BIGGEST clue that it's gonna happen is that he says "Yesss..." in the /say chat. So best thing to do, when you see that, stay away from the 2 knockbacks, but the moment he does the second, run in close to him if you're not far away to avoid Dynamo.
Basically when he goes past 50% in Phase 2, he becomes more insane. It seems the stuff he says is actually tells to when he's gonna do a weaponskill chain (as I like to call it).
Random observations:
When he does his beam move, he focuses on a person that has hate for a couple of seconds, then "locks in" position and gets ready to fire it. The secondary vertical beams stay inside the circle by where he's standing.
For lunar fragments (meteors), it's easier to run as high up you can instead of waiting for the fragment to fall. I was able to hit them both by running up the original set of stairs to the floating rock.
Also, I like to call his oneshotting mode "Berserking Mode" or "Berserk", which as most believe happens when the person that has hate tries to bring him up the stairs.
what do you do right at end before megaflare? do you have to fight him or do you just kill the meteors, sleep the golems, and wait for him to return?
We just won. We're getting the video set up for 1080p on Youtube. I'll post a link when it's done.
Daeva of War cleared as well, about 30 minutes ago. No video though..yet
After winning, I can't help but feel there's more to this patch (or later a/b patches) than meets the eye.
Just doesn't feel complete.
Hard mode is in 1.23a. Among other things.
Just take a peek here.
bump for other people to see, just got close to winning died from megaflare due to meteor hitting the ground
I'm just surprised at the lack of:
"OMFG I GOT HIT BY HIS LASER DUE TO LATENCY"
He's got his own thread. XD
But really, from what we've experienced, everyone except the tank can position to where they don't get hit by the lasers at anytime, without having to move.
And we also found it's easier for the tank to just stand in the same position and eat the laser blast. It's not horrible damage, and it keeps your positioning when Darnus runs back to you.
Im hoping this means that the server congestion crap is a non issue now. We did it last night and ended up dying to megaflare on our second try and decided to come back another day because of how damn congested the area was. It almost made cry because of how much fun i was having.
Server congestion ruins my immersion.
During the final 5% WHERE DO I STAND ON THE FLOOR?
Got him tot he final bug, and he poped into the middle, and just did non stop AoE's. How do you move him to the outside to get a kill on him?

Where does this quest start? O.O Just re-subbed today. Forgot a lot of stuff :\
How do you overcome his HP/MP absorb ability? (Lunar Dynamo?)
I have an image posted a few pages back.
It's a large Doughnut shaped AoE. If you're close enough to him, it won't hit you.
ALSO! This fight plays off of player reactions. If he teleports to your group, you SHOULD. NOT. MOVE. Instinct tells you to run, but he does Lunar Dynamo after teleporting to you, which means you're inside the guard of the move, and you won't get hit.
Your tank will only have to move up a little bit to also place himself in the safe zone.
