I don't really see what the problem is in having the option to duel anywhere, except for maybe cities due to high player volume. I mean if it's a duel you must agree to and there's an option to auto-decline duels I don't see the issue. Let people talk, what does it matter if they talk shit because you auto-refuse duels?
I have never seen anyone sit and spam duel someone in such a fashion. If it has happened it is incredibly rare and its the exact reason we have a blacklist; those people are likely exhibiting that type of behavior no matter what they are doing. There is absolutely no reason to restrict fun gameplay options just because 1 in 100000 players might abuse it. If we start doing that then there won't be much of a game left.
Just because some other game had bad pvp design doesn't make it applicable here. I don't believe anyone is asking for open world, kill anyone at anytime style pvp. A friendly duel between two consenting players is all the topic is about. There are no consequences to winning or losing, purely a way to pass the time and practice for the real pvp that will take place in the arena.
I've play something like 6 MMO's with duel in it (was shopping around >.>) Every single one I had someone spam me with duel as soon or shortly after I started playing. About 3 I only played for a week. The rest I played for a month or two. I left 2 of the 3 cause they didn't have a auto reject feature so I had to click no every time someone tried to duel me then they would either get bored after a bit or get pissed. A few times I took the duel to shut them up and they killed me in 2 hits as expected. Some people kept spamming me with duel even after I took one to shut em up. In the others it had auto reject and sometimes people would complain that I wouldn't duel and I would port somewhere else. One of the games I would take the duels of people 5-10 levels above me because the level system was messed up and you could kill someone 5-10 levels above you if you had skill. This game also had items you could buy to make you ungodly strong and was why I stopped. There's my story of free to play MMO's.
Or maybe instead of waiving off an entire feature because you don't want to possibly be pestered (which I doubt would happen anyway), you might like to try suggesting a solution to your little, petty problem (like maybe a system where you flag yourself for PvP or can blacklist anyone who pesters you so much).
And if you're fighting an ARC/BRD where melee isn't necessary and you'll likely be in bow range if you want to be in casting range?
Bind from Shadowbind works just as effectively as Bind from Blizzara and Gravity from Leaden arrow is just as nice as Blizzard Gravity.
Plus, with a Barrage followed by a Quick Knock combo, unless you're using Sanguine Rite, their ability to cram arrows down your throat may be more of a problem than you give credit for.
or even report them for harrasment too! (which I read in the faq at se na that something like that can be a form of harassment and is not allowed by se) but on a serious note why call it a petty problem when there are people in the world who just simply won't take no for an answer and will harass you about it. Not everyone respects everyones wishes an ideals. even then a simple blacklist doesn't mean that you can't see what a person is saying in say or shout.... (if it does take all that away please tell me I've actually never blacklisted anyone so i have no experience with it). If they implement that idea of a duel and give us the chance to accept and decline or what not then they will. So far all they've said that pvp was only going to be in certain areas and nothing more.
Well, either you're very unlucky or I'm very lucky. I've played many such MMOs myself and I have never had that experience and nor have I ever heard of anyone else with such an experience. Besides that, it sounds like those games failed at other basic levels of game design.
I still don't see how those experiences are applicable here. A system where the duels are entirely optional and you have an additional option to refuse all of them should make everyone happy. Sure someone might ask why you are refusing duels but.. so what? Its a social game, you're going to encounter people who say things you don't like.
I imagine that pvp damage will be at least halved, if not 30% capped so, who knows what will work at this point ^^ can't wait to try it tho!
Using a certain game that took place in a Republic of Old as an example, the /duel feature was never an issue. In fact, it was a great source of fun and even helped with training players with their skills.
Why not just add thing call /pvp off/on.
I think its a great ripoff Idea! they would first need to fix a few things like latency and character reaction time (I think the characters take too long to react to a simple right/left turn). I'm hoping for a simple vs. PVP rather than FF's Petra like PVP, not that it wouldn't be fun. I love the face to face smack you down, I win, PVP feel :D
I'd be up for this as far as arena combat. Also people should be able to sit there and watch in the stands like true gladiatorial combat. It would take a miracle to balance classes for this, I would suggest a 3 vs 3 team combat to make the battles a little more strategic. As for open world PvP, gods no, however there could be designated battlefields out in the world for a friendly match.
I think we only want open world duels. mass pvp would be fine confined to the arena, or possibly an unused city/instanced area :) flagged pvp is awesome, but I'd be fine with arena style open pvp, and just duels in the open world.
step into the arena, you got 5 seconds until you're flagged, if you die, you get booted to the outside with the observers along with diminished hp/mp/attack for 2 minutes. you can come back in right away but, probably not smart :P dr0000L I want this now pls!
there's going to be problems, and needed fixes, but that's all part of the fun imo
time to watch PLD's come into their own lol (I don't have a PLD)
just a couple rules I'd add:
ARENA---------
-30% damage cap (regardless of what happens, you can only receive a max 30% of your hp taken my a single hit)
-50% damage cut (whatever the same dmg would be in pvm, is halved for pvp)
-50% penalty on specials and enfeebling magic
-once flagged for pvp, bonuses from parties are canceled
-2 minute weakness applies to death. you will die, and be ejected from the arena with a knockback effect....or maybe just be resurrected on the sidelines ^^ (kb effect ejection would be funny tho)
-armor damage is nullified to begin with (or doubled, if we feel the need for a penalty to deaths)
-no diminishing effects on enfeebling magic, or effects from specials
-healing or buffing another person that is flagged, should flag you immediately
-recharge on potions, elixirs, etc. should be cut in half (not everyone has heals, this helps with some balance)
-flagged players running out of the arena to the benches while engaged in combat are not safe for 30 seconds.
DUELS---------
-target player type /duel to request a duel
-other player must accept from a yes/no box that appears not in front of them, but to the side of the screen.
-you have the option of disabling duel requests. default is disabled
-once a duel request has been denied, there is a 5 minute cooldown before another can be sent to that same player.
-once a duel is accepted, a 40 yalm event circle shows on your mini-map, and the 5 second countdown begins.
-all duels take place within a 40yalm distance of the player receiving the request, if you run out of this area, you lose the duel.
-arena dmg cap rules apply
-a duel is won when someone reaches 1 hp, you do not die, but a notice is given in vicinity that you have lost. "Giit loses the duel to Somerandomlol" loser will /kneel ofc ;)
FUTURE STUFF----------
-you may be able to use GC seals put into a betting window to be received by the winner.
-statistics for your duels may be posted on the LodeStone
-full on LS v LS battle events
-cross server pvp? (possible in the future?)
-etc
I'm sure there's a ton more, but it's a start. :P
'You challenge Rau Lecreucet to a Duel.'
'Rau Lecreucet accepts your challenge.'
You have entered an Instance.
You are now bound by duty.
'Defeat your opponent!'
Duels are boring; ojective based team pvp only please.
Idk if im for or against lol.. so i guess .. add it ..
they could make it to where only those who had pvp on
could be challenged at all.. that would get rid of the spams of it i think..
but has anyone estimated the cost in repairs? lol
But if PvP would be restricted to an arena, I wouldn't have to. In addition nobody would need to get pissed because most players in the open word reject their duel requests. If you want to duel, go to the arena. It's really the best option.
Also as somebody else said, I'm all for team based PvP. I would go to the arena to watch and participate in that, but one on one? No thanks!
LOL even if and when they add PVP arena I will not use it. It proves nothing, what so ever, but if you want PVP than do it in real time combat. Again just because YOU want open world PVP dosent mean that everyone else that plays this game wants it or likes it. As you can not seem to grasp english at what players are saying or have said, its an issue with you. PVP will not improve this game at all other than to satisfy YOUR need to fight another player in the open world. Let me ask you this why cant you be happy with PVP in an arena? What other purpose dose it provide? Bottom line I have better things to do than going around wanting or trying to pvp other players in the open world.
Idk why people keep talking about out of arena PvP since it's already been announced that there won't be.
I guess I can see why you would want it, but is it -that- big a deal to have to go to an arena?
