Lightened, greenish and waxed in the character creator. Looks weird. I can't choose darker skin and hair since they're already the darkest... :(

Face 1's optional black tattoo on the nose is now reddish-brown:

which I don't like, so I had to remove it. But there's still a brown shadow on his nose.

At least my bunny looks much better in cutscenes than in the character creator (except for the brown shadow on his nose), so that's a good point I guess...

I'm not happy with the changes at all.

Loaded character data and didn't change a single thing. My character looks different enough to the point where I will have to adjust all the colours and change facial features.

The lip colour and the nose smudge (which was cute before) is incredibly dark.
The lighting makes the same skin and hair colours look entirely different.
The eye shine is gone in some angles, and hard to notice in others. So lifeless. The texture of the skin is also uncanny like wax or resin.
My eyebrows are gone?! Please put them back :(

But I'd be happy if just the lips became less "full" these are the least full lips of face 4 and they already feel inflated.

The biggest change that I'm not liking is how the dark nose option is not as dark anymore after the update, at least on Face 1 Rava.

The dark nose color looks to be barely there (if at all) in the update. I like how much darker the nose looks currently (in 6.58).

Another point of feedback for improvement that others have echoed has to do with the eyes. I'm sure the improved lighting has a role to play in this, but the newer eyes don't seem to have as much depth to them.

Thank the twelve for that! A lot of characters got hit pretty badly and it sucks. My fem au ra looks 10 years older and sleep deprived now (just like me fr fr).

For me the lips are the things that need the most work.
I use face 2 and it looks like the lipstick doesnt line up with the actual lips. Looks very wierd. And also the details of the upper lips is gone its just a straight line and doesnt look realistic.

And the thicker default eyeliner is too much :(

Really strange why Vieras was hit hardest by this graphic "update". As one of newer races, they looked fine to me compared with older races and their ingame models were great quality.
This race did not needed any changes, considering male Viera was added into game just recently and already undergoes surgical intervention ? :D Just does not make any sense.
*and agree with most ppl in here, that it is more like graphic downgrade and not vice versa :D Would be best to just not touching Viera appearance and everybunny would be satisfied.

I completely agree! I am like mind blown with the subtle changes and wish I could have them now. My Viera's hairline is so clean and crisp now, her mouth looks amazing, and the detail in her eyes was like striking to me at first.

She's so incredibly pretty and I could not be happier!! Plus her skin tone now is MUCH better! We don't look like a ghost with too much sunscreen. I'm really glad of how inclusive they decided to be for players with darker skin tones.

Not sure if this is the place for it, but is anyone else running into an issue where the beauty mark turns into just a line? I'm also noticing that the eyeliner tattoo for this face (in red) isn't as clean-looking, or crooked somehow.

Overall I'm glad they've updated the clothing textures and hair, and the weird neck seam (in the first pic). But this face in particular now has some weird shadows along the cheeks/jaw, and my boy's eyebrows have nearly disappeared. Not sure how to feel about this update when it comes to Viera. I've been happy with all of my characters otherwise!

I seem to have been hit with the reverse problem to that of many others': I find my character's eyelashes have been severely nerfed lol

Left side is the benchmark, right side is the in-game character creation. It was kinda shocking to see that the added lashes in the benchmark look sparser than if the character has no added lashes at all in the current build.

It persists through the character creation and into the benchmark proper. The dreaded dark half-moon of the eyes mitigates it, but the difference is still clearly there, at least to my eye. (Also somewhat visible in the left-side picture is the already well-documented weird in-shadow look, it kinda makes me feel like my GPU has broken and isn't rendering shadows properly. ETA: I should mention that the right-side in-game picture has some subtle gpose lighting in the shadows, since I took the picture mostly to compare the eyelashes. In terms of lighting, this definitely shouldn't be taken as a 1:1 comparison.)

I imagine this is at least partially a result of the new sharper textures, which would reduce the natural blending the more pixelated/blurry textures had. The same might apply to the eyebrow change, which was also pointed out earlier in the thread.

This eyeliner/eyelash thing is probably my main gripe with the benchmark's character graphics, since I really liked the ridiculously heavy eyeliner look. I can live with the benchmark version, but I'll sorely miss the softer look of the current build. It's truly a shame this graphics update has been so divisive, since I'm sure some people prefer the new lighter lashes in this specific instance, and many people prefer their updated character looks overall. A lot of these problems could probably be solved with a global makeup menu with more workable options than the face paints, so I'll hold out hope that something like that is in the works.

I really don't know what to say. I'm delighted with how significant and huge the upgrade is.

Sadly, it doesn't matter how they look to me, but how they look to you guys, because it's your characters.

I can see a case being made for more significant eye glow, and darkening some skin tones a bit, but I honestly think SE did an amazing job with the update.

I don't know what else I can say.

Not sure why my images aren't showing - The beauty mark for me shows up as just a small, straight line. It doesn't appear to be connected to any other facial feature, so I'm not sure what's causing the problem.

Also, they changed the way highlights work for hairstyles that have multiple versions (i.e. bangs/no bangs) and instead of doing it the way they did previously where each hairstyle had unique highlights, they just... gave them the exact same highlights and called it a day.

I have this EXACT problem with the braided pixie cut on my femViera!! It's really upsetting because the bulk of the other graphical changes I either like on my WoL or don't mind, but the complete change in her hair highlight patterning is ruining it for me. She objectively looks extremely different.

At first I was absolutely devastated, but now I'm more mixed. The character creator seems to have some really wonky lighting. After watching the benchmark trailer I realized it was not nearly as bad as I initially thought, but I still have some issues. Here are some side by sides with my WoL:

The biggest problem that I'm noticing across bunny players is the lips!! There's a lack of lip definition and shine that just changes the vibe of the face I chose (face 1), and many others. The detail at the outer corners of the lips being gone on faces like M Viera face 1 change the entire look of the face. They also seem a lot darker and duller, perhaps because of the lack of shine. I admit the lip shape looks better in the trailer, but there was a poutiness to the lips that just doesn't exist anymore in the update!! I chose this face because of how angry it looked, but now it looks a lot more... smooth.

As for the eyes, I don't mind the lack of eye shine as much as it's fitting for my WoL, but I know that it's not fitting for everyone's. The new catchlight is so lovely, I hope they make edits so its much more visible because it never is. I have more of a problem with the nose, and the added darkening. It's MUCH darker than the current version, which is weird because the darker nose can be an optional face feature, too. I think it can be cute, but again, it is vastly different from the current appearance of viera. Another thing I notice with the noses is how the nose bridges don't have as much of a highlight, so it falls flat against the rest of the face. I think that plays into why character creation tends to make our characters look like they have a flash shining right in their face. When the light isn't right, the definition in the texture isn't there to make up for it. Here's two examples of what I mean, in two types of lighting:

Despite my complaints, I'm a huge fan of this graphics update overall! I think things like clothes, world textures, and even character textures are really benefiting from this. I hope that they can tweak it more to make it so some of the facial features, specifically on viera, do not feel so drastically different. I look forward to Dawntrail and any changes that may come in the future! :D

I'm really glad you like your bun in the new update! I honestly like how almost every other aspect of Declan looks in the update (especially when running the benchmark trailer) EXCEPT the removal/alteration of her hair highlights patterning. It's not a subtle change or something I can alter with something like gamma correction or any other client-side abilities, and is a significant change in her appearance that doesn't constitute a "graphical improvement" rather than a complete design change and is visible a mile away. Her braid and bangs highlights are really lovely to me and to have them wholesale deleted is pretty disappointing.

I'm honestly kinda devastated. I absolutely loved my bun but the changes to the mouth and nose make her look like a different person :/

People are way too fixated on details. There's a million little things that looked awful in the old characters that everyone have learned to overlook but trust me, once you're used to the new ones, when you look at old screenshots or videos you'll wonder how you ever felt it looked ok before 7.0. Some of the biggest changes on my char actually are improvements on things I didn't actually like but had gotten used to.

Perhaps they could tone down the skin reflectivity a little bit (I can see why they did it - real skin is always a little bit oily and photorealistic skin shaders usually incorporate that by adding a little amount of reflectivity, but it might be overtuned here or even unecessary given the less than realistic art direction), then again it's only a problem in some of the character creation scenes, which may not even have been reworked.

It's not at all surprising that even slight variations can leave people with a subconscious sense that something feels 'off'.

While there are some issues around color lighting changes and skin 'warmth', I think the most noticeable change is in the mouth design, especially in the upper lip. There's a natural bow-shaped dip on the upper lip just below the philtrum where the lip fuses during development, but it's not preserved on the bottom aspect of the upper lip on the new models. The previous artist seems to have picked up on this anatomical feature, but whomever designed the newer model did not. I think a lot of people have independently picked up on this.

I feel the same way a lot of people have said so far. I love my WoL and she's always been a Viera. I don't want to have to race change her because of this but it is too blatant of an issue to just try and accept and deal with. I know this sounds like an extreme reaction but we get attached to our characters, understandably so. Even if they fixed the lighting issues that cause them to look flat and "dead inside" the changes in things that gave them character will still remain. The lip shape is my main issue. The cute and charming curves, gone and replaced with lip filler thats not even smooth line wise. Also the eyes being smaller gives an awkward uncanny valley feel. Essentially these cahracters no longer have the experesions they once did in place of what? Nicer hair textures? (which they didnt even extend to the ears btw)

Like I said, it may seem like an extreme reaction but this has killed all hype I had for DT release. Really not feelin this and I hope they listen to the feedback but I have a sinking feeling that won't be the case. Mostly because m. viera didnt get hit as hard and its mostly the lighting fixes that need to be tended to, and other races actually seem to be getting positive feedback. They didn't care about viera thus far with other limitations, why would they now. Id much rather keep old graphics and retain what they look like now then be forced to this butchered "upscale"

this viera preset reminds me of a few years ago when people would constantly overline their lips with cakey matte lipstick. The colors are still terrible too.
also usually I don't use any dark makeup on this face because I like giving it a softer look, but the permanent eyeliner they added ruins it a bit.

Having experienced character graphic updates in other games I guarantee you that anything that feels off now will not fell off anymore after a week or two post 7.0 release. And there are much more offensive defects in the current characters (for example the extremely hard lighting on the skin) that you have learned not to pay attention to anymore.

"Just get used to it" is not an acceptable answer when they explicitly stated that our WoLs would look the same but with new shading and then turn around and release faces with random changes that completely alter the character of the face. A lot of these alterations actively look worse than an upres would have, like the lip fiascos.

I am not a Viera main but the whole reason I was enamored with Viera enough to make one on my roster was the dusted bunny nose and the current changes have really.. scaled that back. He looks like he has a normal human nose now with a slight darkened bit to give a subtle bunny nose rather than BNUUY NOSE and that makes me sad.

I'm not as attuned to Viera features as Viera mains but I do agree that, of the characters I've seen for the Benchmark, the Viera were done dirty.
