Well, given that Yshtola delivered nearly fatal emotional damage to him with just 1 sentence. I could happen.

It might not be what you meant, but it is what you said.
But your argument is that pictomancer doesn't fit into the world because it doesn't match other things in the setting – which is incorrect, because there are other cute things already there. The initial justification for the first cute thing is irrelevant when the question is whether the tenth cute thing matches the rest.
Also, as much as the other jobs you listed were being requested, people were asking for pictomancer as well. I haven't gotten that far into FFVI to see the original version of it, but was fully aware of the concept because people were talking about it as a possibility.
Necromancer has been fulfilled as reaper; chemist has apparently been tried and abandoned multiple times; green mage never sounded like a compelling argument for this game and we have too many "colour mages" already. Geomancer was the only one with some potential still, and may yet come in the future, but might not translate well.
And I don't think Krile is just being forced into this as a Lalafell. She's a major cast member who is due some development and showcasing, which in FFXIV tends to go hand-in-hand with taking up a new job to be shown off. And as I said, I don't think she's as serious as you think; she's just been in serious circumstances thus far, and we still have glimpses of a more playful side to her. Her personality is not so fully explored or set in stone that we have to cry "out of character" rather than "okay, this is a side of her we haven't seen much before". By making this a canon thing, it gives her that aspect now whether she had it before or not, and it's not actually at odds with what we've seen before.
Plus it's not just some cutesy job she made up, it's a real Sharlayan discipline invented by an Archon, and if she feels like that fits her skill set, then it does.
Krile is just... Krile, a forgetable character. You would remove her from the plot and you wouldn't even notice.
I agree, Krile has always been more solemn and reserved in XIV. SCH would actually be a perfect fit for her as FFV Krile can talk and communicate with animals, so there would allusions to it with the fairies.
I've always wanted to see more Krile in MSQ, especially since Stormblood, but not when it demeans her character like this does.
I thought she acted too much like a child in the trailer when she's supposed to be older than Alphinaud and Alisaie.
here we go again, another sindriis thread
having worked with other artists, studied in art school and frequently attended artist alleys to both sell work and mingle with fellow artists, no. this is really just not accurate. most artists are very overworked, stressed but allways bubbly and happy to meet new ppl. we love it when people like the same games/anime/characters or even artists that we do, and can easily talk for hours to one person about it at a stall or online. this idea were all just depressed silant types is so wierd since art is literally a therapy we use to express ourselves and keep our spirits high, a place we channel love and passion, devotion and sometimes obsession. ive allways felt like those kinda of people are just inherintly like that, like a path in life they choose to go down, not one thats deeply intermingled with art. my art for example is vibrant, bright expressive and striking. i paint flowers and nature mostly, when im not drawing manga-style art. i really feel like its not common you meet a broody dark artist
I don't think the character is all that bad, just pretty standard right now. I very easily seeing her being the false bravado type that learns real bravery and strength through the power of friendship. This comes with the standard "lol" moments we saw of being frightened by standard mobs.
I wouldn't mind a background to that either, you wouldn't hear an objection from me to have the Pictomancer quests to delve into that. If Alphi weren't a Sage, he'd be perfect for this job but I think giving Krile a chance to develop and show a part of her interests isn't such a terrible thing.
I do find that stereotyping us artists though as having a set personality type strange. I know plenty of artists who are quiet and pensive people but there are many I also know who are extremely adventurous and outgoing. It's almost as if they are like people too and vary just like them!
Thancred becoming a GNB was a gigachad move. He's done playing now he wants to protecc (fits ShB theme with Rhyne). And he couldnt use magic anymore so he fought with aether infused bullets. It makes so much sense and not forced at all because the lore setup began in ARR.
Yes, it made perfect sense for him to pick up a job he can't use properly without help because he can't charge his own ammo.
I personally am disappointed the new job wasn't Blitzballer and they didn't make our Krille into a dodgeball master.
Krile tutored Alphinaud, right? Feels like she should've been the Sage in EW. Meanwhile, it's established that Alphinaud is a great artist. So he could've been a pictomancer.
Hell, just make Alphinaud the job representative 2 expansions in a row. I don't think anyone would've minded. The only thing that fits about this for krile imo is the job's color scheme, which seems full of bright primary colors just like Krile's outfit.
Feels less forced than this being an issue.
I think its completely fine, she wants to contribute in her own unique way, seems like she will get a chance to do just that.
Don't get the why this should be a big deal, it's not like she had to stop being a serious character now that she is a Pictomancer.
We already have healer NPCs in our little group of companions, tatru already proven she's a failure at combat but better at running a business or weaving threads. If any of the scions were to be pictomancer, it would have to be Alphinaud, but he's super annoying and get away too much screen time as it is. I'm all for bringing krile onboard in any way , as she hasn't been doing a whole lot of combat stuff. I generally don't like the idea of pictomancer , considering how low quality and childish the aesthetic looks, like it's straight out of genshin or something. At the end of the day I'm fine with whatever, just let it be and see what happens before we go complaining about stuff when we haven't even seen what happens in DT yer
I think they just wanted to involve Krile in the story more, and she needed a combat job. Viper was clearly not it, so they went with Pictomancer. It's not the worst choice for her, I suppose. I could see her having an artistic hobby in her spare time, and perhaps the brightness and whimsy of the job aesthetics is a change of pace from her dry scholarly work. She's not without her sense of fun. She teases Alphinaud, and I mean... she's been wearing that adorable cat-ear hood the entire game. Clearly she doesn't take her self-image excessively seriously.
It's kind of funny that we already had an artist character with Alphinaud, but I think Pictomancer would have had a radically different style if they went with him. It's too bad we didn't get some kind of scene to set up Krile as a painter, maybe even comparing how her art style is so different from Alphinaud's or something. At least have it in her background somewhere.
And yet they still give Thancred the stealth missions! Thancred will always be the "stealth recon" rogue dude to me.
I feel like that's only because Rogue wasn't in the game at launch and gladiator was the closest "one-handed blade" job they had. Thancred absolutely would have been a Rogue from the start, if it existed at the time. And it's not even a case of "we need a character to represent the new job," because they already had Yugiri for that. They were waiting for the day they could shift Thancred over to where he belonged.
During the cut scenes where Leviathan is summoned and the Scions are fighting off waves of sahagin and Serpent Reavers, Thancred makes a comment about how he has to stop holding back while he picks up a second knife and switches from gladiator to rogue/ninja fighting stances. And the totally-not-Rogues' Guild members (looking back, it's pretty clear that they're stand-ins for Jacke and V'kebbe, but are very noticeably not them, for whatever reason) that you later introduce to Yugiri comment on knowing him from back in the day. So the clear intent is that Thancred was always supposed to be a rogue, it just didn't exist as a separate job yet.
hey.. i dont call you out https://pbs.twimg.com/media/GHEPhJKX...g&name=240x240
I’m an artist. I’m about as far from “light-hearted bubbliness” as you can get! lol Sometimes my artwork can venture into the whimsical realm, but you wouldn’t know it from looking at me. And I’d say for a lot of artists, even if you know them personally, you might be surprised by what some of their art looks like. You don’t need a certain personality to be an artist. Krile will be perfect for the role imo.
Krile was first introduced as playful. She only became a worried-mother personality during shadowbringers. But if we really go back to havensward she was clearly partly playful and partly caring. Most people are multi-dimensional, clearly that's how they designed Krile.
