You said in one line what I consider the most flawed concept that was unfortunately introduced in Eorzea (the core of the crêppy Speed Runs, as well). And when I read that:

...the first thing I thought was that at least one of the islands could be another Warriors/Black Mages/Jobs stacking AoE Spam Feast. :(

Of course, I hope it won't be another content wasted in such a manner. It looks very interesting and, being an Explorer, visiting 2 new islands of the Cieldalaes really excites me, so I'll keep my fingers crossed.

These are islands around La Noscea but they are actually new 'areas'? Dunno if they are used before.

There is an island instance used in the Armorer quest line. Might be what is used for this. Sounds like it could be fun. Why more weapons though?

Yeah these new islands should be "new" (as in new to us but they've been in the .dats all along)

The Cieldalaes are a string of small islands to the southeast of La Noscea. I guess these ones are apparently too small to be inhabited, but some of them are, because it's mentioned in lore that Limsa does trade with the Cieldalaes.

I wonder why they're adding all these weapons, we have quite a few sets now. Maybe it's to prevent that everyone is running around with the same weapons *shrug*.

I hope this goes differently than I expect, because all I see right now is another WAR/BLM spamfest. I am going to give SE the benefit of the doubt like I always do, but doesn't usually come into my favor.

Also, I am guessing stuff will be RNG as always. I think this is the team's last opportunity in 1.xx to prove me wrong that they have a great system in place for this event.

I'm sick of weapons. I really appreciate the new unexpected content but for gods sakes. NO. MORE. WEAPONS.

Trees are easily added with shaders. Seems your a r50 blacksmith I would wager that you have already been on the island where this event is going to take place.

Sounds like a BLM/WHM spamfest to me, especially the one where you have to stand still...

In, 1.xx RNG is exactly what your going to get, nothing new... because they need to give us something to do that will last us for 3 months till they close down the servers. Not that I blame them for doing it this way ( Yoshi-P) because the servers and FFXIV 1.0 will be history come 2.0 Beta...

However, if 2.0 is the same thing with RNG and crap, I don't know what I'm going to do :/. but with all the feedback and RNG being one of the top complaints in FFXIV, I have faith that RNG won;t be an issue come 2.0.

Skirmish does appear to look like fun though regardless of Rewards, so of course I will try it out to see what its like.

That is false. They made a token based system like Garuda and it worked beautifully. What isn't to say they can come up with a good system for this one?

"Most" things that they came up with have been rnged, Garuda and GC are the only exceptions to that. But the most recent additions like Garuda and some parts of the Relic quests have been about skill Drop rate of Garuda is 100% for X2. So, I do hope its going to be like that "not 100% obviously" but something like 30% drop rate would be fine.

I obviously cannot say for certain, but I think the reason we keep getting weapons is quite simple, and also the reason for quite a few of the similarly lazy design decisions we've seen in 1.xx. I think the reason we keep getting weapons is simply because they're easier to make. Armor need to be remodeled and reskinned for every gender and race, while weapons just need to be sized down or up. That's a huge difference in time commitment. With most of the team working on 2.0 at this point (probably for a long while now, honestly), they are likely scrounging for every second to get content out on time.

1.xx is mostly just filler for those of us who stuck around to keep us paying them long enough to release 2.0. Sure, constantly releasing weapons is getting grating, but it probably isn't going to cause many people to leave. So from a cost benefit point of view, it makes sense to keep producing weapon rewards.

Wow, out of the blue... it looks like fun and the weapons look pretty cool. (Rein translated they are 99.9% as good as Relics, so these battles are likely gonna be crazy tough)

My theory.. they are actually testing out some mechanics that they will end up using in the Crystal tower. (much like the Bomb escort for Firefall festival was a test for Caravan escort)

Oh and it'll be fun fighting more Buffalo type mobs :D

They did mention two islands for skirmish. And yes, I've been on an island for the BSM quest. I don't know if it's any of those two though as I can't even remember there being a beach of some sort. Did that quest many months ago. Also, I simply mentioned that they might be giving a "glimpse" to tropical islands. I probably should have written teaser to avoid confusion :p.

That's a good way to look at it, hopefully when 2.0 is release the engine they are using them allows them to have a more flavored loot pool compared to just weapons. Though these weapons may be useful for the end of the 7th Umbral kinda like a Mcguffin which has latent power only released when fighting Omega or something lol. Since the weapons have a Crystal look to them I can imagine that their main strength and usefulness will come from the end of this story arc.

Of course though these weapons may either be better or the same strength as the GC 25k weapons but with more potent Sanction effects so it will be weapons for those who can stay alive. The event itself, I can see it being more varied with class/job setup. While sure yes AOE spamfest WAR/BLM is used, how useful will said tactic be if hordes of mobs are coming faster than can be dispatched. Using AOEs and quickly lowering mob HP isn't always the best strategy since if you widdle down to many at once they'll all use their WS moves in unison and decimate the group.

Just imagine a group of 20 chigoes make their way to the one performing an AOE, 2 seconds later bam you just went from 100% HP to 0% lol.

While I personally don't have an issue with the weapons as rewards, objectively, it is kind of silly that we have so many options in one slot, while only having... what? Four sets of endgame armor per job (most of which is horribly out-dated)?

Well, as I said in my last post, I'm pretty sure I know why their doing it, and I don't really mind. It's something to do that looks quite fun, so I'm happy.

You all forget the current primal battles are probably going away since they not part of 2.0 storyline for the time being after 2.0 hits which = no more primal drop gear.

They need to throw in content for when 2.0 hits. They will probably keeps skirmishes in 2.0 and we'll lose all the primal weapon drops...just a thought.
