Thanks, I'll try it again and if one's vanishing entirely look at a bug report! (or if I just screwed up selections the last time I tried it.)

The arguments being presented here are hilarious. Thoughts on marketing have nothing to do with the job. Once the starter gear is off, Yoshi P will have zero control over your character model, your rotation, your raid progress, your glam, your emote usage. All of that is on you. Maybe you all are less afraid of the job itself and more afraid of what you'll do with it.
Or your afraid of what others will do with it, which frankly is none of your business.
This is like the team marketing a job (let's say BLM) with Ronald McDonald as the model and the reactions being:
"This will only appeal to clowns..."
"I can't see anyone raiding as a clown!!"
"Clowns don't make sense in FFXIV..."
"I know some clowns and they like this so it must be for clowns!!"
My main concern about Pictomancer will be the Sound and Spell effects. Being in a raid for hours seeing those bright colors and specially hearing those spellcasting sounds could drive me insane xD
I have lowered the spell effects to Reduced as i still wanna see some effects, and also turned down sound effects on Party, but not to 0 as again i wanna listen to audio queues. And fear these special sound effects I heard in the showcase will distract me from what the Boss migth do xD As a BLM I am using audio queues as a big factor in how i play.
I hope I am wrong, and also hope those who like this gets what they want. Its just if something become too much of a nuisance for majority of players, they gotta tweak it. They even changed the Sage Job symbol due to it caused Tryphophobia to some people.
Only thing I can say, that even if the colors of pictomancer affect the overall gearsets design.
it'll likely still be Darker/Rich Colors.
But with pieces or gemstones that lean Astral and Umbral.
As Red and White(Fiery Orange, Crystal Blue) is present in many things of the jobs.
You may even attribute Darkness with Black Paint or Baha or Dark Aether Gauge(RDM)
RDM Stylistic is just a BLM who couldn't cut it, and then dumped their points into balancing their Aether. Already Dark.
Smn is just gonna summoner, replace the head gear with AF gear, or just cowl them and it won't matter.
The real question is, how would all of those colors work.
BLM has had mixes of Monochromatic(Black, Grey, White), Purple, Teal, Yellow.
RDM gonna Red.(Unless they start Giving them Accents that specifically highlight their duality of their Gauge.)
Though seeing the Alliance Raid, the Location of the 8Man Raids, and some of the local backdrop.
(Maps likely in the Central/Southern American Jungle. and Likely in Solution 9 or the "Western" Mexico and US Desert)
We are likely gonna get Gear with Colored Accessories/Accents on them. (With the main color being Darker.)
The High Tech (Neptunian like) Gear I expect to be, will likely Glow and shift like a less glowing (unsheathed)TOP weapon.
<Can only Hope the Field Op/Exploration Zone has nice Gear akin to the later on.>
---------------------------------------------------------------------
TLDR:
still dark and black colors, but with some Accents to highlight potential what the jobs do. Which the factor between the more specifically distinct ones(BLM/RDM) is their Shared Astral/Umbral-ity.
[But yeah, I would of liked Black Caligraphy Paint like in some other mmos. Buuut, it's not too much of a huge deal, maybe they'll be nice and throw in Client Side toggles/choices. I'd take Metallic Paint in a heartbeat.]
I'm starting to wonder if people are disappointed in the look because they're collectively getting that experience every grown up former Art Kid is so familiar with - getting one of these as a gift from a well meaning relative

People complaining that gear is too cutesy tho aren't using their imaginations yet! I think the silhouette already looks a lot like Marco from The Lost Boys so I'm curious to see how it looks with those 2 dye channels.
Now that we have ACTUAL pajama sets, you too can live your dreams! :)
I don't know... I want to be proven wrong on this but at the same time, if they get the standard set of black robes again, I'll just sigh and shake my head in disbelief.
No no I mean the Byakko weapons illustrate a great way to have your painting effects without it being so garishly "in your face" all the time with the neon colors and gloopy effects. They're subtle and beautiful and clearly artistic. I love the idea of the Pictomancer job although I'll be honest and say that it feels like Yoshi P & Co. went "Shite..Krile needs a job.. ummm.. what's the least ferocious thing we can create that is still somehow rooted in FF?"
Not fear so much as aggravation and unsettledness... like people who hate the word moist. That kind of thing. The neon + the bloorpy sound effects (I have effects of others turned off so I don't have a horse in this race). I can see it getting really old, really quick, like DRK's confetti.
Yes, that's what I meant to convey, everything is either floofy shirts or cowboys. Dancer ges no love. Hey maybe with all those black robes, dancer learns Dark Arts from DRK ;)
Which is what makes the game endearing. I don't care if the mage next to me is in a frog suit or the bard is a big elephant or a tutu wearng Roe. I do care when the Pictomancer is slapping aether paint all over the place with comic book effects and spoopy sounds and I can't see where to place my ground attack or whatever. It's not the player's fault... it's just bad design.
You know how Ninja fails a mudra and gets a bunny on their head? Pictomancer fails a drawing and gets RoseArt LOL xD
… like with the new shading. It will probably look better. I didnt mean that they would make bad quality stuff and go back and make it better for the release lol. But shaders make a huge difference. If you look at reshader mods for the game, everything looks much more HD and better quality and, in my original post i ment that when the new shaders apply on top of the picto paint it will probably look much better and much more aestethic. Atleast i hope so.
I thought that was clear lol. Who would think what you assumed i ment.
We all know that caster gear is going to continue to be various voluminous robes with the tradition A silhouette. Doesn't matter that we have now been to a completely different shard and even to the end of the universe, it's always big robes.
Funny how no one is actually discussing how the job might play in favor of kneejerk takes on the VFX based off a short clip
Yes. The effects in general are off-putting and I think many have voiced their opinions on that. If anything, that is the most consistent feedback I've seen since the reveal. You can have paint splotches in a way that's not obnoxious (Bravely Default II manages to, and that game's style is even cartoonier than XIV).
lolno. Have you met my friend, Red mage? The caster gear has always been biased towards BLM's aesthetics since forever and I don't see that changing. BLM will always be Yoshi's baby so no surprise that the gear is more often than not tailored to their style. Would love to see more tunics and shortrobes though if Pictomancer gives them the push to cut back on robes.
Would be nice if there were different brush effects. So that their entire skillset isn't just sloppy splatters.
Somebody mentioned it all looking like something out of Splatoon. You know what? We should call it Splatoon mage. Let's make it a thing, because that's what it is right now.
Splatoon mage.
This is the most insane argument yet because if you have battle effects on, they crossed the line of visual clarity a long ass time ago.
Please just stop pulling things out of the hat and just say it-- all of you. You don't like the way it looks or sounds. You had a preconceived idea of what it would be and it's not that. Whatever. You don't like it, let's just say it and move on.
The job is not some kind of threat to the game in any way shape or form, functionally or ideologically, or whatever other weird bullshit you want to bring up because some marketing made you uncomfy.
I think he means because everyone else's effects are translucent lights and pictomancer effects are solid. It does look different from other attacks, but we're attacking with paint if they made it look exactly like other attacks, then what's the difference? If you bring it in line with the rest then what's the difference between a BM's freeze attack and a Picto's freeze attack?
While I agree their attacks look different. I also think that's what beating someone to death with paint would look like. It looks goofy because it is goofy.
