The entire first few pages is filled with people mocking the anti-streamers before you see someone actually answer the question. Can't get a serious answer to the question when everyone is mocking them before they even get a chance to write their response. You just all cause them to hate from the shadows that way.
I just think the whole thing is silly. These forums use to be very anti-streamer just because the streamers were always praising the game including it's faults. This was exceptionally true during the Asmongold and WoW Refugee era. But the VERY MOMENT Zepla makes a video the anti-streamers agreed with, suddenly they turn to her defense and act like it's the shills that hated the streamers the whole time, not them. It's constantly back and forth and I have seen both sides hate on the streamers at one point or another. I really hate how hypocritical these forums get, often changing their stances only based on the current flavor of the month. If these streamers were saying the game was perfect despite all the criticism of the game on these forums, they would be the ones making streamer hate threads. The real reason people dislike Youtubers is because they don't feel like they as a person get accurately represented through these Youtubers and the Streamers will collab with like-minded people and often spread takes that they might not agree with. Which then the devs see and assume it's the global opinion of the community as a whole.
Tl;dr people think streamers brain wash their viewers into group think.
Because they have been spamming this forum with inane bs trying to drive viewers to their videos. Get a real job.
Since no one seems to have brought up my viewpoint on it yet, I'll add to the conversation.
My issue is moreso related to their content genre than anything else, which is reaction content. If you go on Zep's or Arthars channels (for example), it's filled with "X reacts to...."
I view this content type to be extremely lazy and also why I take issue with creators such as SSSniperwolf who are profiting off of other people's thoughts and work.
I view FF content creation (outside of maybe Pint and a few of the DoH/DoL channels) to be lackluster and why my views tend to go into other places (like Spiffing Brit, RTGame, DougDoug, Let's Game It Out, TheEpicNate, etc.) because they provide actual entertainment, audience engagement and original content.
If certain FF YouTubers dropped the "reacting to x" all the time and added in some original content (hell, Zepla could literally do a stream where her viewers decided her Genshin resin burning for the day and I'd be more interested in watching that then her reacting to another reddit/forum/youtube comment thread) my opinion would probably change and I personally would probably watch them more. As of right now, I don't feel a need to.
Para-social relationships.
Padding videos out.
Repeating content among other videos.
Pushing out content before they should because they gotta be first.
Simps or perhaps undercover PR hired by the youtuber who'll push out their content, such as you see in some topics here.
It's not just FFXIV youtubers, it's youtubers in general.
People who stream/content create as a full time job is going to want you as a dollar value, not as anything else.
I've long since made the affirmation that I'll never monetize my youtube account. Feel free to like and subscribe to my channel, but it won't net me profit.
I like making videos as an extension of this game as a hobby. I do not play/stream as a job. Once it's a job, it's no longer a hobby.
It also probably doesn't help that people will link to a video and say "this is my opinion" instead of just articulating their own opinion on things.
Even if it's word for word the same ideals as someone who made a video, you can at least type it out if your opinion means any value to yourself.
But I also have the same thought process of people who'll reply with a meme image instead of coming up with their own reply.
Although the poster may indeed be a forum troll, the subject of the video still reaches out to many.
A lot of threads get out of hand because people already go into defensive/attack mode solely based on the name of who posted the thread. Then people assume everyone who disagrees with them is an alt.
Essentially, people make their responses based on who posted it instead of the actual substance of the post.
I don't think that this forum hates Youtubers, Twitch, or Kick Users at all. Believe me, I do not want their job because you have to entertain everybody on your stream for a lot of hours and try to get new people to subscribe to them and send them money so they can continue that way of life.
But I think the issues stem from some folks just posting these videos and saying that "this is their opinion" but have no substance behind that reasoning. If their opinion matches with the streamer's then I can understand but it is their own words, not yours. Besides I am going to make my own assumptions without any outside help that includes Content Creators.
People just hate that they will do anything for a extra dollar or view. Content videos are padded out to be an extra 10mins+ or a hour video that could of been 10-20. Making the same video about the same topic a few times. Or just “there is more to this drama! Omg!” with a clickbait picture.
My YouTube feed has had no ffxiv videos lately as I haven’t watched a ffxiv related video in a month+
I think for a few here it’s not hate, it’s just the forum is being spammed now with content creator react threads. The first one was fine and discussed at length even. It’s 140+ pages even.
But then another thread came, and another, and now we have 7 of them and people are losing interest. I don’t come here for a sub forum of reacting to content creators who don’t even interact with these forums or post here themselves. A thread once in a while is fine but now a certain person just keeps looking for YouTube videos to post links to - always in new threads.
I dont just dislike ffxiv YouTubers, I dislike any "gamer YouTubers or streamers"
First I dislike how people act like everything they say is right and blindly follow. I hate what they have done to games and honestly I hate what they have done to youtube as well, I just don't understand why people including game devs basically worship them. I find them annoying and stupid that either white knight or just say w/e to get clicks and views.
its as bad as all the people who follow sports so annoying stupid jocks... and now gamers are just as bad with their "streamer worship" no one has a mind of their own anymore and for those of that do... well ya
I'd have to say, I tend to try not to get too involved in these discussions - mostly because I still enjoy the game - faults and all - and, sadly, it doesn't seem as if my mindset really fits the narrative of these threads.
However, I will also say that it's a pity that threads on this particular subject are so prevalent. I mean, if I were to create a thread to discuss a very recent Youtube FFXIV Reaction video I happened across entitled "How FFXIV changed my life" I suspect it would be poorly received here.
It's not really the YouTuber that people have a problem with most of the time, it's the people who post their stuff here with such half-assed logic to backup what the YouTuber said, just to stir up drama/controversy and not actually contribute to the conversation around what was discussed in the videos. The majority of the time, they are the ones who also derail threads and go on personal attack vendettas.
Eh I don't hate Vtuber, I watch a few of them from time to time and some does have good content.
When it come to debate, I don't think Vtuber's opinion is any more or less valid. A 1h video from Vtuber about an issue is no difference than someone typing a paragraph of argument on the forum, at least that's how I see it. And just like regular posters, Vtuber and streamer have their own echo chamber and circle jerk. About half, probably more of the traffic of these contents creators came from self-feeding content loop, that's why you see a lot "reaction" video, or "reaction to reaction". As soon as someone made a piece content that gain some traction, you'll often see a bunch of others descend into that content to make their own piece of derevative work.
It's not a new model. You see this in the tabloid sphere of the media as well, especially in the sport and celebrity area. An outlet would put up a rumor (could be real could be fake) to rile up the readership, and if that gain traction, you'll see other outlets start creating their own derivative work, either to jump on the bandwagon or creating debunk, or debunk of the debunk article. In the end it's often matter little what being said, but more about how many cross traffic generated between them. And this is not just my own take by the way, I have seen some streamers/vtubers (like Asmon, Lucy ...etc...) straight up admit that the circle of leeching off each other and feeding into each others is exactly how their economy work.
I don't think people here is exactly have issue with Vtuber/streamer content, rather how it's used by some people in their desperate search for validation. Like, ok, if you and me are debating through a series of post, and you cite a video because it articulate things better than you can, then it's fair. But creating a new topic for each one of them ... that's like start taking random post that agree with you in a 20pg topic, like "here is post #135 in the other thread posted by this random person that prove me right!". Then imagine seeing someone doing that 2 or 3 more times for other posts in a row ....
It doesn't make you right, it makes you look cringe.
Uh...
It's mostly just one of those "You don't share the same opinion I do, therefore, I dislike you" - They've been on both sides of this coin, frankly. Both for liking the game, and for disliking it.
I would say it's rife. But it's not really any different from any other community, really.
Can't wait for "Zepla uploaded another video! Let's go through her 52 minute ramblings #21", "Will Asmon return to FFXIV!? (November 2023)", "Preach preaches about Island Sanctuary", "Crytuber loved Endwalker! Will they love Dawntrail?", "This is what genericYoutuber0815 hopes for Dawntrail! Do you agree"?
I hope there will be less YouTuber topics on this forum
I'm pretty much neutral toward streamers. This is my only issue. What kind of discussion is it opening up? If someone outlined points made and then offered their own perspectives, that's something a forum conversation could be built on. Instead it's just tossing out a video "X says this!" Well, I don't really care what X says. I care what you, as the OP, says. I'm not really getting that from these posts.
I like Youtubers that make guides. I've been watching this Weskalber guy a bit, and he's been helping me with understanding jobs I've never used before. What I don't enjoy is drama youtubers. The Asmongold types if you will. They make a controversial video, get a bunch of views, and then spend the next 3 weeks trying to take advantage of the reaction of the first video by making follow up videos. Then other drama youtubers jump on the train to make reactions of their reaction, etc. It's very high school drama-esk to me.
As for parasocial relationships in general, I hate them. I think they're extremely unhealthy for the viewers and the content creator, and don't encourage healthy habits on both sides.
same reason people hate the talking heads at MSNBC, CNN, FOX, etc.. its just oped pieces being masqueraded as facts... pundits,
gaming youtubers are quite literally advertisements and internet litterbugs, hoping for as much sensationalism and drama as possible as it brings in revenue. just like the 9 o'clock timeslots on "news" stations.
And those videos aren't posted here, and he doesn't post here. He uses content here to react to for his own channel views and clicks, and unless someone like you drags those links over, I wouldn't know they exist.
That isn't him interacting with this community. That is him using this community as content to discuss with his viewers/followers.
I like it when content creators scroll through the forums and my signature is front and centre. :p
EDIT: Well, not in this post apparently.
Personally, I have nothing against content creators. I just take issue with the gophers that like to field for them. "Guys, this person said this about the game, go check it out." That doesn't sound cringe to anyone else?
