I like FF14 and WoW. So what now?
Cheers
I don't play WoW. I don't even know what is WoW until some rando in my first LotA playthrough lightly accused me of being a "WoW refugee" after I continuously ask the party about the mechanics so much.
Somethings are a matter of perspective/opinion, while others are objective reality. Blizzard doens't have any ethics or moral nowadays. It's just business. At least CBU3 pretend very well they care about their playerbase.
For those who have no idea why:
WoW has multiple monetization system. You need to buy the game, monthly subscription or wow token, and now you have trading post with a currency that you can buy using IRL money....imagine if we had Khloe's Wondrous Tails by real money: If you pay enough, you could acquire your three lines. That is exactly what they are doing with a minor twist: you need 500 coins (example) to acquire a specific item, your max by month is 400, by coincidence, we sell 100 in the store by $10. They started slowly. On the first month, players were able to acquire all items by playing. By the third and fourth month, you had to choose what you want and keep a reserve for the next month (without knowing if will be worth it, if you spend it now, you can buy more later anyway).
Not to mention run selling in a game where end game gear matters, worst, a game director (Mike Ybarra) was selling runs during his own live.
Not to mention lore, continuous retcons and gearing complexity, and i am only talking about WoW. The situation is even worse in Diablo 4 and Overwatch.
FFXIV is far from perfect...we could have a better -optional- farming loop, more stuff to do with our iLVL and places to use our mounts. However, at least they keep what we like and try to innovate here and there without having to copy 100% what other games are doing.
Btw, some professional complainers here should try something else for a while. I would love to see.
I am indifferent towards WoW. I play FF14 because I like it. I was playing for 10 years, and I have not intention to stop.
I played WoW several years ago and didn't like anything about that game, nor his community, game aesthetic or gameplay design. Anyway, as far I know as I read things about WoW, Blizzard is no longer Blizzard, it is Activision, and people is not happy on what Activision is doing. But I do not care about that game.
FFXIV has a loooot of issues with gearing in that there is no complexity at all, get the item with crit + det/DH as there is only one piece between savage and tomes that will have the perfect stats.
Honestly, I wish FFXIV stole more things from WoW as they do have some good ideas that I wish would get implemented here.
Not to mention the other problem with Legion weapons......

Never played WOW I am from FFXI and came here from there...WOW just never appealed to me.
Never tried WoW, not interested at all. Have always liked square enix games though since childhood.
Hope that helps.
I'm another who has never looked at or considered WoW. I've heard enough negativity around Blizzard in general that I don't find the idea of playing any of their games very appealing.
You know, I was almost willing to take you seriously until you decided you had to prop up a defense of Overwatch 2.
I came here because I legitimately started hating WoW and Blizzard, all bridges burned, no turning back.
Stayed because I started loving this game after giving it a proper chance.
So both, I guess.
I played WoW for a long time, 2005-2022. The game just changed and I didn't enjoy it as much anymore. I play final fantasy since ff6 not counting final fantasy 11 I never played that. I love both games but right now final fantasy is new and I'm enjoying the journey couple things, there are a few things I wish the other would adapt but that list is long here's a few points.
Mythic+ versus criterion- I like criterion how it's designed not to be on race to the finish with just scaling HP and damage but actual bosses with mechanics and some difficulty to them, however mythic plus does have a better reward structure for completing it.
Transmog vs glamour - I like that wow any item I've collected any quest I've done or anything like that is saved into the transmog system and I can go through it and pick out what I want to wear but I like to glamour hasbl plates and if I want to just change glamor to a different outfit I can save it and change later.
Community versus community final fantasies overall nicer but there are bad eggs, in my 1-year playing I've only run into one set of toxic people and they seem to be newer and were on Seraph so I'm guessing ex-wow players too that just like berating people.
Raiding v raiding. FF14 from the few I've done is more choreographed and more of a dance than wow who has more RNG heavy fights. So wow is reliant on add-ons to kill bosses ff14 raiding community majority seems also heavily reliant on them as well despite less RNG. Final fantasy bosses are definitely more aesthetically pleasing but wow it is a lot easier to find a set group to grow as friends, to raid with and accomplish getting boss kills as a new player meanwhile final fantasy a lot easier to pug/party finder

NGL, kinda just waiting for the next new big decent MMO to show up or a current MMO to get an insane update. Still love FFXIV and have a blast with each patch but it has definitely lost that "breath of fresh air" and now feels very stagnant. Unfortunately, I see no true contenders, we'll see what Riot cooks up in the "distant" future but personally no other MMOs really catch my eye...
Who cares? WoW doesn’t have catgirls. You are all missing the point of this game.
Unbelievable the title of this thread is the exact opposite of what it says it's about. 3 posters here are trying to convince everyone WoW good FFXIV bad. Or maybe it's the same person with three accounts. I think ya'll are on the wrong forum. I played WoW I left WoW I didn't enjoy my time there anymore. Why.. reasons. I play FFXIV because I enjoy FFXIV.. because.. reasons. It's nonya I don't hate WoW but I won't be playing it again simple. If you can't accept that people play this game because they enjoy it that's a you problem.
Giving this thread a 4, the bait is old and stale. Please find another hobby, fishing doesn't seem to agree with you especially trolling.
I don't hate WoW, I played it for years and had a lot of fun.
But FF XIV is a superior game in every metric that I personally care about.
Hence my presence here.
Lali-Ho!
Yeah I like this glam for my machinist, I rarely play her anymore but it is the character I started with. Actually I left FFXIV for a while and went back to ESO. I have a lot of time and money sunk into my characters there. But I really like the FFXIV setting and I loved the main story here so much. I took a break for about a year not playing games at all. Then came back here this time I made a lala because I could never play a lala before now I have a ninja and I love it, going back through the story and making new friends. I read the forums to see what's happening or if their are any decent conversations going on. I enjoy the exchange of ideas even if I don't agree, but the troll threads just kill me especially when people get dog piled by the negative nannies.
But no I'm not the OP.
I was on a miqote but when I get the free Fantasia I ended up switching to Lalafell because I thought I was hilarious being the tank and seeing the tall beefy races stand behind me. I'm only on the forms weekdays cuz I'm at work and not much to do sometime so I chill here waiting to get home and play. I never could get into ESO, I tried playing when necromancer first came out I think and played for a while but just never got far with it but one of my wow buddies loves the PVP there.
I don't think anybody mines criticism when you're constructive and it has a good point. Like my earlier post I mentioned criterion versus mythic +. Criterion I enjoy for difficulty of the bosses versus the race of mythic plus, but mythic plus has better rewards. See that's a criticism of a system but also point out that I prefer it over the race I just think it needs a better reward system for the time invested maybe it's own gear set to kind of be less than raiders but above crafted. Or the transmog versus glamour, how I like that wow automatically saves gear you get to transmog but I also like glamor having multiple plates so it's easier to swap. See criticism but the direction to show where I think they could improve really for both games.
And yet criticism is pretty widely viewed as a bad thing on this forum, no matter good or bad, because you are a "hater" if you do, or you should "just quit", amongst other comments that people get when they post constructive criticism, toxic positivity is the absolute worst, and this forum loves its toxic positivity
The interesting thing is that Yoshi-P himself is on record praising WoW in various interviews as a major inspiration for FFXIV. My own take on the subject is that there's a lot of things that WoW just does better than FFXIV and I wish FFXIV took more cues from the game when it comes to to exploration and the sheer scale of the game world. In turn, there's some stuff that I hope WoW takes note of from FFXIV moving forward.
It's how businesses are supposed to work. They're meant to strive for improvement and take note of what their competitors are doing or not doing.
No one gets just quit or anything like that when they post a constructive criticism and don't post it in a condescending way. Don't come to the forum and say well wow's better than final fantasy, all wow contents better than final fantasy and that you're kind of what you like is a reason gaming sucks blah blah blah expect to have positive interaction. Just like life is all on how you present yourself you present yourself as you want to debate and argue and have a pissing contest somebody's going to step up and challenge, you come on here and try to just talk and have a friendly debate about the back and forth about what the game can improve on what it does right what it does wrong you'll get people that want to participate in that respectfully.
Excuse me but where did anyone say WoW is better than FF14 at everything ? Who said that ?
From what I see, you post a criticism of FF14, then people jump out and say WoW is bad ? So people who played WoW will say: you're actually wrong, it's better in this or that way. The first shot is always people talking smack at WoW, when no one asked ?
