Haha is "soon" better than "eventually"?
However people tend to think if SE is late that they can't meet their deadline, thus making them not Trustworthy to the consumer when they say: this is coming out in 7/28/12~ when it comes a a month later 8/28/12. I'm no business major and all.. but lying to the consumer is the worst thing a company can do. That's just me though
I don't think anyone expects a date, but at least the name of the month? It's only a website anyway. Hardly something that requires lots of manpower and work hours to get ready in time. I'm sure they just want to time it right for the "maximum amount of impact" or whatever reasoning they're using.
Well, I'm only going off based on how the community has been acting as a whole to when SE releases or not releases a date, I hope everyone ( or most) on here can understand when SE (Yoshi-P) Says "Were aiming for end of July" and its late for a month.. people won't freak out because they didn;t say "Its going to be coming at the end of July". I know its not going to happen, but I do hope for that day to come one day.
Anyways, Lets all just have fun play FFXIV, do Real Life stuff.. whatever it is you do to have fun do it, You only live once (Yolo" =)
"This new site will feature world lore, character, system, and content updates as soon as the information is available." I would consider world lore as a spoiler. I honestly don't see it happening until/after 1.23. The only thing that leads me to think if it may appear before is that he said the CG trailer is sometime around midsummer. However 1.23 is also around mid-summer so it's still possible.
Though it could be additional world lore excluding Umbral Era stuff if you think about it. They do a decent job fleshing stuff out in posts (that people complain about because it's not about raids or gear) but there's still a bit of lore they could touch up on. Just check out the localization forum, a lot of that isn't immediate spoilers but stuff they could easily add to a 'codex' or something on the website, that's how I generally interpret world lore..info about everything from naming conventions to stories that isn't/won't be present in game in full (think: Vanadiel Tribune.)
I think the trailer mainly is what contained spoilers they wanted to avoid showing off/flesh it out better.
Y'know, up until this post I managed to remain happily ignorant of what YOLO meant... thank you for ruining that. I now hate you with the fire of a thousand suns. :P lol
On topic, I sort of agree with the OP. Valve Time is a running joke to most of us (rightfully so) and I cannot stand it when companies use the word "soon" to describe a timetable, nor any other equally-ambiguous word (especially when used to an obscene degree, like how Blizzard does).
For so long have I seen Yoshida-san say things like, "We're aiming to get that released to you by the end of May," and that's an absolutely beautiful choice of words -- it satisfies every party involved in the discussion (players get their ballpark time of release, and developers still have an escape clause if there's a misstep) -- and it's one of the many small distinctions that make me feel glad to give Square my money, even if I don't manage to login to XIV at all in a given month. Yet when I start seeing someone bandying about "soon this" or "soon that" (side note: "in 2.0" is starting to have the same connotations for me :/) and just leaving it at that, especially after showing they know how to not use such words... it leaves a sour taste, as it reminds me of...other developers... :/
What are you talking about?
Website is on!

If I was SE I'd never say a solid date for anything. The people just explode the moment you slide a inch.
There's still Japan Expo and Gamescom (and PAX maybe?) for SE to attend, too.

For those interested in upcoming Gamescom
No date would probably be for the best. Still, no one sets the date but SE. I think that's why so many people get flustered when SE misses their own deadline.
If I were SE and needed a month to get something done I'd tell the players it'll be done in two. That way I could delay it for twice as long as I'd need and still some like a hero for releasing it on time or even early.
Hard to not see him. XD
I give it sometime after 1.23... closer to 1.23a
