I was complaining about this when EW came out, but so many people were okay with it. When people accept mediocrity, you get mediocrity.

Unfortunately, it seems criticising this game means you're an asshole who hates it and must be shat on by everyone.
People don't stop for a single second to wonder why this might upset someone, I hate it because I love this game and want better from it.
If I HATED ff14 I would LOVE this change because it shows a decline in quality, I'd be congratulating Square on their laziness and "one step forward, two steps back."
Miqo'te and Au Ra are just treated as midlanders by the armor design team, and the Hrothgar as Roes. They don't actually put in the work to make gear that fits them.
Some ARR armors did actually acknowledged that tails exist, either by hiding the spot where the tail pops out from or adding an actual (although slightly misaligned) hole for the tail. But seems to have dropped off by the time HW rolled around.
Due to their laziness in designing gear, I rather have them just hide the tail than just have it clip with stuff constantly.
I've asked for a tail toggle a long time ago, some gear would look better without it, some with it, but this game only care about pandering to lalas.
Miqo'te ears have also been completely cut out from a lot of headgear since Stormblood.
New headpieces don't have holes for the ears to stick out or ear compartments for them to stick in as it used to be before. Think of the Calfskin Rider's Cap or the Street Cap. Those should be showing the ears sticking out.
In this expansion, tails being left out started with the Moonward outfit iirc and I sincerely hope it doesn't become a trend. If they think tails are best hidden in those cases, why not give us a toggle to show them or not? Same for the ears.
It is a trend, just something else. Longer patch cycles, less quality. They did start making some capes split and the clipping was less egregious. This tells me they have no intention of implementing some sort of toggle, or at the very least, they aren't trying. Of course, the split capes could have just been a coincidence, and nothing to do with them actually acknowledging tailed races.
Unfortunately, this will likely only continue.
For that matter, I do not think it is worth the cost of removing tails entirely, just because some people do not like their tail, or they do not like it showing on certain pieces. It is better to have it than not, regardless of clipping. In a perfect world, there would be a CAPE toggle - NOT a tail toggle - and/or the pieces would be created in a way to accommodate racial features. Especially considering, collectively, tailed races are the most populous in the playerbase.
I would even say that we should have both types of toggle: cape and tail.
The second one is at least extremely easy to implement. It's obvious that they're not too bothered when tails clip through gear all the time, so it's still a bit strange that they decide to remove them in those cases. It requires zero effort on their part to add both the tail and a possible future toggle (a bit more for this one since they'd have to make it work in their system).
But this also reminds me of a suggestion I posed some time ago (here) to add more toggle options for gear in general.
So while adding a cape toggle or a chestpiece toggle could require more effort on their part, I hope they end up doing it. Quality reduction cannot be justified anymore in an MMO as big as this one and it's not like we're asking for impossible things. It reminds me of how easily happy and satisfied the player base can get when getting the bare minimum that should have been there already (e. g. two dyes or more furnishing slots).
Guys please stop making these suggestions they're a small indie company...
I like the outfit though...
It's stuff like this that would make it so tempting to learn mods. Not for "Mare" (I have no idea why I put this in caps...it just feels right lol). But just because so many outfits come without tails and even ears now. How is it some random modder can put a tail out within a few hours and the actual devs can't? Same things with various modded hats I've seen around.
So frustrated, as someone who doesn't hate the game and previously called a White Knight on more than one occasion. Having minimal standards for a game we patron isn't being a hater.
Still dumbfounded people defend this as intentional design decisions. How about you actually design gear for all your fantasy races that half your playerbase uses?
As a Miqo'te player I also don't care what someone who fantasiad into a human because they don't like tails and their lallafell supporters think. And yes I am aware this issue makes me quite salty.
I'm pretty sure that's not traditional Obon attire. :D Obon references are often an afterthought anyway, but the suit seems to be both a reference to modern festivals and the fact that Moonfire Faire is an event run by the Adventurers' Guild. It is given an explanation during the quests.
It seems they intent to keep cutting ears for miqo'te wearing headgear considering that the hood in the Viper reveal video kept them hidden, as usual.
IMO this is better than the moonfire suit (using the helmet) and I get to keep my tail.

Already annoyed that the moonward gear doesn't let you have your tail out, a cool non "bulky" Armor set i cant use yay! also the striking gear is pretty nice.
I don't get why theirs gear that hides tails... just feels a bit lazy honestly.
I once thought that those looked like betty crocker red rubber spatulas and that has been a thought that stuck with me since then... rent free you may say.
I think the suits look cool if not a little silly (in a good way). But eh, never really cared enough to get it unless for a power rangers joke.
wait, the missing tail was literal?? Where does the tail go when you wear it????
Good question. The Aether?

Its obvious, the suits are bigger on the inside, giving tails room to not be squished.
