"Oh no, bad evil PC gamers are taking small indie games for themselves!"
Most of these "Hundreds of thousands" PC 'exclusive' games are small indie games developed by one person up to a very small team. Games that get to be very successful end up on the Consoles most of the time.
There's a difference between devs not releasing a game on consoles, and consoles taking games for themselves based on an "Exclusivity contract".
Thankfully with Microsoft Xbox going headstrong recently, PlayStation has been releasing its own IPs on PC to boost sales, and it's only a matter of a couple of years before Day 1 console exclusives find their way to the PC.
Hopefully, they acquire SE next after Activision so "Everyone" can enjoy playing the next FF games instead of just PlayStation players.
Wow, consoles being anti-consumer? Crazy.
Wish people would stop buying these 600 dollar bricks. Inferior hardware, anti-consumer nonsense, exclusive expensive controllers, forced to just live with the rushed production cycles and wait for fixes from on-high since you can't even use player mods, upgraded versions come out at arbitrary times and you have to just buy a whole new system if you want to play new games at passable performance, can't just swap out parts. Just awful. And then they know we're not gonna buy that crap, so what do they do? Release a highly desired title and then lock it behind the purchase of one of these awful things.
At least in a year it'll be on PC.
We can't all afford a $2000 PC every couple of years that requires constant maintenance and upgrading, sorry.
Only ever had one console at a time, and used it for it's entire life, never had to buy additional controllers, or upgraded models.
Luckily I don't have super sensitive eyesight that triggers me and gives me hives if the framerate drops more than 0.00000001 FPS below 60.
I have a gaming PC, Series X, and PS5 (so as to not miss any exclusives), but to be honest with the state of PC ports these days I just buy on either console/ almost always guaranteed to just work once you load it.
Plus, as mentioned, not everyone can afford a 3080 or higher, not to mention how just the video card that will equal one of those consoles probably costs more than the console itself. I think the latest Steam poll had the 1070 just now being the most used card when previously was a 1060.... For someone who just wants to play the latest games decently, consoles actually are a great deal.
PS5s are readily more available now compared to the last couple of years so people saying they cant get one now are just not even trying.
Console exclusives is one of the worst things to happen to games. It's up there with loot boxes. They ruin your choice of platform and after the exclusive period they barely make enough effort to port the games which leads to horrible releases. Buy a console and award them for this? No, don't think I will.
I find it odd when people defend exclusivity deals still. Its not like the consumer benefits from this behavior at all.
I was excited to play the FF7 remake, however it took so long to come to Steam and I simply lost interest and still haven't bothered. So what would have been a sale ultimately turned into none, or possibly one at a deep discount in the future.
Makes sense to me, Americans only want football and guns so it wouldn’t fit on Xbox, switch wouldn’t run it, and pc gamers are too busy hive-minding on the latest tik tok twitch shit or whatever, so by clever deduction on ps5 remains
Console exclusives have been a thing since consoles came to be. Sure there have been ports here and there but this has always been a thing. You wont see a Mario game being played on Sony or Xbox console. While I agree that in a perfect world, we should all be able to play every single game on one platform, its so dumb how you guys are acting as if this is some new trend.
I'm just going to wait a couple of years for ff16 to release on PC to play it. can't afford a ps5 right now. not worth buying a console just to play a single game.
Sometimes SE just want games to die, like Stranger of Paradise being on Epic.
Consoles shouldn't even exist anymore.
I'm disappointed with XVI being timed exclusive for the PS5, with other platforms nowhere in sight; but I still have Endwalker to finish, followed by FFXV, FFX, and FF7R. I'm not going to be running out of Final Fantasies to play for a while yet (sorry XIII-2). And then there are my other game backlogs.
Edit: Forgot X-2!
When FFX was released exclusive to the PS2, they initially expected that they wouldn't have as many sales as they had for the previous PS1 games, because there were fewer people who owned PS2s than PS1s. Nope! Sold 2 million copies in the first few days.
Yeah Ive stated this before, anyone can buy a PS5 now and Ive already purchased mines last year for this game along with transferring all of my PS4 stuff into PS5. Btw do people know that FFXIV PS5 actually runs smoother than some PCs even in PvP content? Now unless you have a beefy setup, I found that the console version of this game runs at a constant 60fps or at least smooth enough where a couple of frame dips arent noticable at least to me. Also the fact that loading between zones is much quicker has me stunned.
Anyway that was off topic but just wanted to point out based on somebody saying that consoles should not exist anymore.
You need to be playing on an absolute toaster or multitasking like a mofo for a PS5 to outperform a PC, assuming you're running the game at recommended settings for your particular rig. That said, a lot of people do play on toasters, so that's not really any kind of revelation. I will however agree with you that the PS5 will on average load faster because of the beast of an SSD it comes with. There are much faster options available for PCs, but not a lot of people have them at this point. The processor is kinda meh, but that SSD carries it.
PS5 availability is still kinda iffy in some areas. They're still largely absent from stores in my area despite how much time has passed, for example. Good thing ordering online is an option, otherwise I still wouldn't have one. Kinda regret buying it, though. It's nothing special. So far the only exclusive I've found myself enjoying was GoW: Ragnarok.
I don't mind waiting for the eventual PC port... Look at FFXV, for example. By the time it came to PC the game was in a much better state.
Slight offtopic but I'm pretty sure when the PC port releases, XVI and XIV will certainly have a collab, given it's Yoshi-P in both titles.
Bacon is good... However I will never understand the American obsession with covering everything they eat in unhealthy sauces made from mayo and ranch dressing...
JRPGs are generally going to be seen on Nintendo and Playstation since those are Japanese consoles. TBH the only ppl I know that bought the new Xbox series X are ppl that pretty much only play shooter games like gears of war and call of duty and don't own a PC. I dunno anyone that bought an Xbox series S cause... why bother with the downgraded version that would basically be like xbox's version of going from PS4 to PS4 Pro if the person already had an Xbox One? lol
In terms of game titles. I have all the hardware options I need for consoles along with my PC. One thing that has become a factor in more recent years in wanting to play the game at it's initial launch is it means I don't have to run away from spoilers for months or years waiting for it to become available on a specific platform.
They still have different coding. Games on early consoles were few MB in size. Nowadays we have monstrosities being released that are over 100GB (I think Ark can actually top 400GB if you have everything for it). That is alot of data to port over to a different platform. Developers nearly always do the initial development on 1 platform even on titles that release on multiple on launch day. It simply means they ported it to other platforms as part of the development cycle and is the reason we've seen a number of titles that released like that run better on 1 platform over others.
Yawn. I'll wait for the PC port. At least by then we'll know if it's a good game or not, and any game breaking bugs will be fixed.
Some people's takes on how PC compares to consoles at this point isn't really based on what the hardware is like for the price point, but sentimentality.
What's in the PS5 runs in circles around PCs unless you're spending in the range of 1500-2000+ on hardware, and that shuts out an absolute ton of people from having a comparable experience on PC.
Because you said so?
Like ... these days I'm definitely one of those PCmaster race dude, but I still find it hilarious the language some of you are using. Do you think including these "soul-crushing-monstrosity-words" into your sentence will lend them weight or something? Industry destroying? Like ... yo, I don't know how long you've been gaming, but let me tell you as someone who have been gaming since the mid 90': the industry have been getting stronger every year. And it's not even a linear, but more like exponential growth. If after almost 30 years and there still no sight of the industry being destroyed you mentioned, maybe it's time to re-evaluate your evaluation? Or you just really want to play a false prophet? :p
Seriously, just be honest and say you just want everything on one platform to save yourself some money, that's all there is to it, that's the real and only reason. Not because you care about the state of the industry or whatever grandstanding reason you are window-dressing your argument. Like ... it's not even a bad thing so why pretend? It's normal for all of us to have more while paying less, myself included.
I also play a lot of strategy games that only release on pc and work much better on m+kb than on controller.
Also there was an article recently where YoshiP explained why the timed exclusive.
Linky link
TL: DR included was "generous technical support" from Sony.
Edit: Reading back, it's probably more accurate to say it was "one of the big reasons" why the timed exclusive rather than my implied singular reason.
Is the so called PS5 even in stock?
As for why PC, backwards compatibility, emulation
Yes, PCs costs significantly more than a console, but it also can do much more and more than likely last longer.
