I actually have played other games and mmo's a lot in my life.

I found that the games with instant travel such as you are looking for, are usually very light on any kind of personal investment, why enjoy the scenery or environment when you can instant travel everywhere and never have to walk.

not having the ability to mount is hardly ruinous in town.

I get the feeling that your idea of QoL improvements are as little interaction with the environment as possible and you play like your house is on fire and you have the desire to rush through things as fast as you can. for me, there is no quality in that life.

so, not everyone is going to agree with your need for speed, just to throw your "mayhap if you had the broad perspective" that not everyone... plays like you do, you would see that the game doesnt over complicate city travel ^^

I see absolutely no need for mounts in cities or for constant sprint.

The fact that you keep saying you have to teleport to the main hub shows your lack of experience in this game.

Yeah no thanks to mounts but auto sprint in certain zones should be a thing already. Especially on your island. Dunno why you need to press a button there every 20 seconds when it could just be a permanent buff.

What's the rush? Let's say they add that, what's stopping you from asking to go even faster? At which point, I would simply suggest you time skip to the point where you've beaten the game and left us behind to crawl along at our snail's pace. :D

I agree with this please give infinite sprint in cities.

I'm not sure what problem you're trying to solve here, getting around cities isn't very difficult nor is it time consuming.

Saving a few seconds every time you travel inside a city is hardly rushing through the game lmao. We are talking specifically about improving city travel by just a little bit. The rest of the game is unaffected.

There is no rushing this game at all anyways. Even if you skipped all cutscenes (one of the worst type of rushing) it would still take you a substantial amount of time to complete the MSQ.

The awesome thing about making city travel more streamlined is that you still have the option to walk around slowly and experience the city at your own pace. No one is stopping you from paying the game how you like.

Converting sprint to a PVP like toggle in cities would be an extremely easy fix.

Also changing city teleporting so you can open your map and teleport to any crystal directly would not be very challenging to implement.

When formulating QOL changes for a game you have to find easy ways for your suggestions to be implemented or indeed it would take away from development in other areas.

Using a system that is already in place in a different area of the game achieves this goal.

Options to fix this problem thus far.

#1 Implement a zero cooldown sprint, a perma sprint or a sprint buff as soon as you enter a city that does not allow mounts.

VeyaAkemi suggests below "Give us PvP Sprint while out of combat and instances, toggle on, falls off if you take any action, and as a bonus point, action changes to normal Sprint while in places you can't use toggable sprint, that's all I'd want."

#2 Add collision detection around important in game assets such as quest giving NPCs and retainer bells. Allowing players to stand on top of important assets allows for griefing in not only cities but the world as a whole.

#3 Better aethernet systems. Optimizing crystal teleportation so if you are inside the city already you can open your map and teleport to any of the aethernet crystals directly instead of having to teleport to the main hub and then to a smaller hub afterwards. This removes an extra step that is not needed and is not streamlined for QOL. Also adding more teleport locations would be another option.

Press M in city to open map > click on any aethernet crystal > teleport directly to any crystal inside city from any location inside city

The game is pretty good at handling that collision problem. The npc moves to another area on a phase for people on the quest. I find 99% when you think a bunch of people are stacked on your npc; you’re slightly in the wrong space. (Like he’s 15 feet behind you)

its always 100% easier to suggest something like this city teleporting but do you have have any idea of the code involved? I dont, so do you KNOW its an easy fix or are you just assuming? Do you know for a fact that its as simple as treating in city map like you would the continent to pick up the carious crystals around town, or does that start impacting how the main teleportation hubs work outside of teh city? it would be an AWESOME QoL update if the main teleport list suddenly was even longer with every mini crystal located in various city districts around the game /s

since I dont know about sprint in pvp because I dont pvp, rather harder to comment on that, but "adding a toggle" is not always an easy solution depending on how many other things function off of that.

sure, it all SOUNDS easy, but are you really sure it is?

It's funny to see you playing the victim when you were essentially telling other people that their own opinions were invalid, especially when we're discussing a QoL feature that isn't going to impact anyone in a negative way.

Going by how the thread is going, why not just cut out the middle man that is travel and just have pull down tab or something that lets you select town amenities? lmao

honestly, I would rather see time spent on QoL improvements like fixing Viera and Hrothgar than something that shaves off a second or two. I was not saying they were invalid at all, I was contributing to the thread by trying to express why it was not a huge QoL improvement given other long standing issues that people playing those races see every time they log in. I am certainly not thinking I am a victim, shaving off seconds in town isnt going to improve my gaming existence, but for you, obviously it would. So, I certainly hope they address it since it means that much to you and the OP. The viera and hrothgar wont mind, they have been waiting for ages already, whats a bit more time? ^^

As someone who loves Vieras I don't think this will impact their improvements in any way. The players can speak for themselves and anyone can take a second to get that the same people aren't involved.

And now you're trying to paint this as a conflict of interest with other updates that people want, when really it isn't. If it really was a conflict of interest, then that would also mean that other QoL updates that people wanted and many other updates people want in general are also conflicts of interests, which I don't think is the case.

Perma sprint in City or on your Isle would be a huge improvement. Maybe on all no-combat areas. Maybe allow Mounts on really great City like Sharlayan ~_~

True and I don't think it's reasonable to ask people to switch class for a speed boost. Perma-sprint would be the best solution imo.
Anyone who has been playing for a while will remember that the cool-down on sprint used to be much much shorter. They changed it when they enabled sprint in instances. Obviously perma-sprint in combat is a bad idea, but the longer cool-down did slow us down when it comes to getting around outside.

As to the Aetherytes, sorry, I don't agree. I think the system is fine as is. There's a mini crystal conveniently located in all main areas of the cities it's just a case of learning where they are. The only one I have an issue with is the Botanist Guild in Gridania which is about as far as you can get from the Guildmaster and the quest-givers (why Square?).

I remember thinking that the PvP sprint would be perfect for the Island, but it would be great for cities as well.

Yes, Every single time it happens, for every player that uses it, it will quickly save a LOT of time and add up quite a bit over the long run

I understand the "want" for these changes, but they really aren't necessary. We already have aethernet shards all over. Usually, the distance from wherever you are, to wherever you are going is accomplished within 20 seconds. Sometimes it does take longer... and so what if it does?

I know others don't like saying it... but swap to a job with peloton or movement speed increases if it is that big of a hassle.

I don't agree with collision detection. Everybody should already have a mapped hotkey for "target nearest NPC." The "crowding of NPCs" is only a problem for players that don't map something to handle that function.

You make a great point I will add that into the edits!

That hotkey largely eliminates the main issue players have been complaining about regarding mounts in cities.

All the other major games are fine with it so I believe many players are creating imaginary issues that simply do not exist around mounts in cities because they have not experienced it in other games. Either way suggesting mounts in cities gets flamed in the most toxic way... **Gasp** rofl

I would happily settle for a PVP toggle though, seems like a fair middle ground to me.

Reasonable QoL suggestions are always met with skepticism and downright hostility. Sometimes with plenty of backhanded "suggestions" (just change classes lol!). I'll let you figure out why.

I feel like it should always be that way the game is already pretty slow overall and that would make the game just more enjoyable
