On the note of them adding things from previous games.. I wouldn't like to see Nanaki, even though he was a cool character, but adding a City or something from one of the more futuristic FF titles would be pretty cool. Have it all in ruins and a mystery.
Long extinct civilizations and jazz.

Edit: As stated above however, a Gold Saucer'esque playground is a must.

Hell, having an expy of Nanaki's race show up at some point - since he's going for referential callbacks, not outright "X, transplanted into XIV" - would be kind of neat. They were criminally underused in 7's setting ;~;

Mudd: I will /eat my hat/ if there's not something exactly like that inside of two years from 2.0 release.

No! Please SE do not use characters from the main series for this, i am all for races and stuff, and certain locations or stuff that could be inspired by actual locations from the series, but straight up ripe off ? No! Just No!

But i wish they would add that Wolf race they had in FFIV-VI

Seriously though, the only good mount is a Chocobo mount. ... other then that maybe a horse or oxen or sheep /things that really are used as mounts in FF universes.

Goobbue and other Mob mounts cause the hole in the O-Zone layer and that's why we have Dalamund ...and stinky cheese.

I want to see a Papaoupamus from FF Crystal Chronicles, but that's just me and it'd never happen.

Adding Nanaki as a mount would degrade the character. If I remember, only Cait Sith is shown riding him and he's not even a living creature, plus it was out of necessity. Members of Nanaki's race are too proud to be so subservient to humans.

I'm not advocating for putting it in or anything, but this is strictly based on the lore of FF7. That does not apply to FFXIV.

It would be fun if, the smaller raced could ride on the shoulders of the bigger races. Say Lalas riding on Rog's Shoulders.

I like in FF that Chocobos are the standard mount. I also like original mounts (the Gobbue is a pretty original idea for a mount)

But i'm a little tired of Tiger, Lion and Wolf mounts. I know they often look fierce and neat, But unless they can be part of the Chocobo "buddy" system Yoshi-P has been talking about i'd rather see some mounts farther out from left field. Some Examples:

Some sort of Buffalo or deer.
A Goat.

If they ever make multi player mounts:
A centipede with 3+ Saddles on it.

Some interesting things i've not really seen before as a mount.

But i think Red XIII as a mount isn't something i'd like to see. Would really cheapen him and his race to me. If anything i'd like to see a playable race somewhat in his image/style.

The piggyback thing would be nice as a /follow command (sometimes someone just has to afk for like 5 minutes). But you'd want everyone capable of it and it'd look silly if Roes tried to piggyback a Lalafell unfortunately. =/

I laughed at first, but after thinking about it a bit I realized I wouldn't mind seeing Red XIII get a redesign as a summon.

Edit: Though if Fenrir is a summon like some have speculated, I guess that's kind of pointless. Nevermind.

on a less trolly note since I see some actual thoughtful posts in here...

race specific or job specific mounts would be kind of cool. also seasonal mounts (christmas chocobos)

For race mounts I have always wanted to see a tarutaru/lalafell riding a crawler from ffxi. That would be pretty pimp. I don't know what to suggest for other races. Other mobs for the game would be pretty rad though. I can see Raptors, Aldgoats, etc...
