My brother in Hydaelyn, there is no model of the dress for male roes or hrothgar.

These outfits suck.
Ah another poofed skirt that will look horrible on Elezen. I will hope they unlock the male one as the vest/pants seems far better to me.
I imagine these will be gender-unlocked in about a year or two?
SE, I'm lost for words, not because you closed down Babylon's Fall as predicted and lost billions of yen, but because your Model creation staff keep forgetting to add our damn ears to the Hats, you'll never learn will you.

Okay, he's not totally happy because it doesn't match the fur, but the ears are comfortable.
Why you not learn!!

Make Ears Great Again.
So excited for the event! The outfits look great! :D
At this point- Im assuming the devs are just purposefully doing these gender locks to piss off the community. Cause every time outfits come in; GENDER LOCK. Seriously?? Dense much? Or desperately trying to bother people lol
Gender lock is fine.
Removing ears from hats though is unforgivable.
they really need new artists for the gear.
This feels like a slap in the face considering they just unlocked all the previous Valentione's outfits.
What are you doing, SE, you keep saying you want to remove genderlocking going forward, but then you add MORE locked items, and even more items like the new Euphrosyne gear were some piece (PANTS! IT'S ALWAYS THE PANTS!) are drastically different between male and female models. Just once I'd like to be able to be excited about new gear without being immediately crushingly disappointed.
Someone on youtube uploaded a video showing them both on the male and female miqote, but you can see a problem in that video. The male outfit on the female model is flat chested because its actually just using the male model. The dress seems to work on male miqote. Male miqote shares with male midlander, so is that because Astrid is going to put on the dress and elezen children are maybe just using male midlander models? I heard the dress is flat out broken on male roe and male highlander.
Now it feels like we lost track of what we had revealed to us, just moments before.
As to what Lukha said.., they may as well just reward a gear token for each expansion that works for all (Current)Alliance Raids that can be traded for gear.
Step 1) Release Gender locked items for event
Step 2) Make it unisex a year later for real life $$$.
I mean, they are a company.
Eh, more armoire fodder. Honestly more hyped about the chocolate eating emote than the outfits.
I think it let you pick, but it's been a couple years so I admit I don't remember for sure. I did get both sets, so I know I got one for the quest and then went and got the other; I just swear I could recall grabbing the male set first because I liked it more and figured "worst case, I can stick it on my retainers or Kai-Shirr" and then grabbing the female one afterwards. But it's not really super important; either way, the key was that you could get both sets.
If there's still a way to earn the coffer for the opposite-gender set (so I can stick it on my retainers or Kai-Shirr or whoever, and have it around for the eventual unlock), then yeah, that's no worse than it's ever been. The write-up on the Lodestone made it sound like it would only give you the one for your current gender, and I feel like that would be a step backwards; even without gender unlocks on gear, we do have custom delivery folks we can glamour, and retainers we want to be stylish (because, hey, fashion is true endgame in everything), etc.
This wouldn't be the first time. If you allow the anecdote on modding a bit...
...this is what happened with early midlander body mods. Because after a while, people went overboard with them (because of course), and what they noticed was that child NPCs, and even important young NPCs like Alphinaud and even Alisaie, are using male midlander bodies to emulate flat-chestedness. Cue weird moments with Alisaie in cutscenes, or the really awkward moments during Ryne's redressing sequence in the raid fight. Let's just say some organs should not be on those characters.
So odds are they fit, and that's true. But they're not adjusted for the opposite gender. Hence why later additions exist, they work on giving the models some chest and curves to fit the female frame and vice-versa for female-to-male pieces.
Chocolate's great and all, but I want my inn biscuits back.
(I have been sometimes tempted to re-sub on my 1.x account just long enough to join my current FC and dump any remaining Hourglass Biscuits from Sarina's inventory into the FC chest, just so I can pick them up with this character. I know the biscuits are basically useless as Boiled Eggs do the same thing and all, but ALLOW ME MY NOSTALGIA, DANGIT.)
Looking forward to the dress for my Viera and female Lalafell and the suit for my male Roegyden and Hrothgar. :3
While I'm cool with the eating chocolate emote I would propose something better in my opinion, like an I love you emote. Where the character points at themselves then makes a heart with their hand then points at whatever they are targeting.
I was going to propose "Why not just a proper synched emote for kissing someone?", something that's better than /blowkiss, /dote and the frankly kinda ugly /puckerup.
But then I remembered what country and culture FF14 is built on.
So instead I propose a very modest hand-holding emote.
They removed the gender locking from the previous outfits from 2020 and then the new one they're adding appear to have a gender lock again based on the tooltips on the site...
Just a small indie company, can't expect them to put in all that work I guess.
I saw that 6.3 outfit datamine video too and was confused when I saw the event page. Maybe they just didn't have time to edit the dress's model for the buff-Roe/Hroth body? Seems very weird, especially with unlocking all the previous years' sets. (๑≖ˇдˇ≖๑) ~?
I also never understood why they made separate gendered versions of the same item when the models are the same, like is the case with the hats and boots in this set.
That exists in the game. I was doing Hildibrand yesterday and in the SB quest chain, he "flirts" with Gilgamesh's crow by making a heart sign with his hands that creates pink hearts like /dote, sort of. I saw that and hoped it'd be a thing we could all use one day.
So, I've pointed this out before, but... this is a thing that always annoys me to see, because it honestly gets things backwards.
Speaking as someone who has done game dev, both at a AAA company and now in my spare time heading up an indie team, I have way more flexibility to do things as a "small indie company" than I ever did when I worked at a AAA studio.
Back when I did gamedev for my day job, if we wanted to make a change to something, we had to write it up, throw it to the higher-ups, if it affected scheduled milestones in any way they often had to send it further up to the publisher to get the okay, and then we had to get approval back down the chain before we started on something.
As a "small indie team", the process if I want to make a change is "I open Discord, open the team's server, pop to the appropriate channel and go 'hey, so, I had an idea on how I want to change <X>, I'm gonna throw that into the next build' and get a couple thumbs-up emoji." This is, let us say, rather faster.
Based on my own experiences... if SQEX were a small indie company, we actually would probably see more things done, simply because there would be less process to get in the way when the devs had something they wanted to do.
Do you mean the little flavor-text about a dream (and, I think, sometimes finding a random item under the bed, if I remember right?) or the actual nightmare cutscene as 1.x approached the end of days?
Either way, yeah, I do kind of miss the way inns used to work; the fact that there were benefits to logging out in an inn room (other than rested XP bonus) was nice. There are parts of 1.x that I think were really honestly neat ideas, and which I miss... unfortunately, they were generally buried amidst a lot of really questionable technical and game design choices. :|
Both of those ideas are great!
The outfit though... even in the illustration the two women look disappointed by the dress. Also, why does the gender-locked male-only pair of trousers have what looks like a female symbol on them? Are their designers and graphics team protesting the gender-lock too?
I'd have worn the male outfit, but sadly the dress just isn't my taste. And the hats cuts off miqo'te ears so it will rot away in the armoire like the others with that problem. Kind of disappointed to be honest.
Cool we get an emote to eat chocolate. I'm kinda meh on the outfits... but when are they going to have one of these Valentione's Day events where we get in a Chrysler mount that seats about 20 to drive down to the love shack after we find some jukebox money?
LOL yeah their expressions are like what is this thing? I’m thinking with the way they named them that they probably will be un-gender-locked in the future, so if we get one during the event, we should be able to get the other from the Calamity Salvager, even if they eventually put them in the cash shop. This was how it worked with the other Valentiones set… I ended up going back and getting the male set for one of my retainers. Not sure how long they take to show up at the Salvager though.
Looking forward to the dress. Between this glam and the last one from the tataru questlines, whoever's designing the outfits for these batches of content is doing a pretty good job. I hope the chocolate eating emote is looped but I doubt it.
I have to say I'm a bit confused by Emilie, design-wise. She has the same colour scheme as Astrid (and an Elezen-sounding name) but she's a Hyur, so they're not cousins or anything. Did they start out with her as part of the Valentione family before changing plans?
