I get what you're saying, and I'm not defending the guy for what it's worth. Just wanted to state my observation, mostly.
I see people trying to rile me up. Not gonna happen. Have your fun though! I'm a big advocator of fun.
If I'm honest, the only real issue I have here is that I find some forumites lack empathy. Not all, just some.
For example - I've always found the 'the game is too easy' mindset difficult here - there are definitely some forumites who lack understanding or tolerance of anyone who says/implies that they don't find the game easy, and the replies to such admissions can come across as being pretty condescending if not, occasionally, outright insulting.
Again, though, this doesn't apply to all cases and I have to note that I'm grateful for the support I received when I first joined the forum and posted a thread pertaining to my poor performance and asking whether I should continue or not.
for me it is follows. Its how you look at it. Like someone mentioned before people on the forums (well some) are extremely self center for no reason at all. From time to time i find some of the discussions on here interesting like adding new options to characters etc but others i dont such as bring real like situations in a video games.
I do recall a time that the forums where way better than it was now. If anyone remember the time we made a book, want to say a screen shot book that we sent to yoshi p back in hw? That was community that i fell in love with. remember a time we lost a fellow player and they held a vigil for them ? https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=8YrhGja3Ghs&t=1s. This was made us great. Remember a time when we had troll post and we shut them down by making it about cooking recipes
But now its just a endless thing of bickering for no reason. Everybody thinks there opinion are great compare to others. Sadly to say it is not. Opinions are like assholes everybody got one but they thinks there's don't stink. We all want to enjoy the game fullest. But we all know this game has flaws but where should we go? they always say go to the forums and give feedback. The problem is with that is people keep making multiple forums post and not just keeping one big one alive and to get the point across.
Just wish people actually use there heads for once and use feeling. Tired of people always assuming and not using logic. Tired of the derailing. Tired of the lack of understanding. Tired of being tired of it all but hey if people want to meme so be it.
It was both maddening and hilarious in equal measures about the chocobo feet when that mod was like "Oh yeah...good idea we are gonna look into it"
*several years later*
Nothing. It's like as soon as the mod posted that response they were taken out back and shot.
The forum isn't the community. The community is in the game.
/thread
I don't even know who that is. All I know is I agreed with Aveyond with his story post and I got called his alt, just like you think I'm defending this random dude alts.
I recall Titanman and Damian but that's it. I just don't go out on a crusade on someone I dislike and start harassing them like others like to do. If the dude is a troll then you could just ignore but you can't. Instead it's 20pgs of people makin fun of him like 3 year olds. I don't know the local trolls nowadays but y'all keep him in your prayers way too much lmao. It's actually sad and funny.
And man, my name ain't that long. Spell it right would ya?
I tend to do try and do the same when it comes to the forums. Say my piece and split, maybe respond to someone(s) whose replied to me or just make a bunch of random jokes. The forum could use an injection of comedy from time to time to make it feel less grim to pop into. That's why every once in awhile you'll see me dam near spamming off the walls threads, lol! Though, in those goofy threads I am somewhat serious.
Speaking of which, I'll probably be making a Borzoi mount thread. The fucking meme on youtube won't leave me alone, so now I suddenly wanna see a Borzoi sled mount in the game. xD
Anyways, Renalt you're 100% right on the forums and its people like you that make it feel more welcoming and fun to drop in, so I hope you keep doing that for as long as you want. :D
"The Official Forums is an EXTREMELY poor example of a "Good Community"
Given you're a prime example of the issues with it, no duh
Maybe you could have not brought him up on a thread that had literally nothing to do with him? Funny you say people are obsessed with him but you try to bring him in a topic that concerns him zero.
Yes yes Renalt didn’t pat him like many do but that doesn’t make Renalt’s original post any less valid or any less of a good advice, so if you want people to let it go, start with yourself.
Perhaps if you could read past the last page then you could see I didn't bring him in it at first lmao.
I'm just pointing out you guys act weird on these forums with people.
It's creepy. I hope I don't say anything too out there so I don't have a damn cult behind me like he does.
This forum is very… passionate to say the least. We cannot judge a community based on one place alone, but across the board I would not pick any forum to be a bastion of fan civility.
When I started playing back in 2014 these forums where relatively like every other MMO forum. As in, mostly a smal minority of players complaining about things from game breaking bugs to the change of a tooltips font. I did not interact much with it when I started playing again in late 2020 until Endwalker was released, when I wanted to find more lore discussions about this world that had helped me a lot over the last few years. As someone who really enjoyed EW and loved the character of Venat, you can guess my surprise when I entered the debates and saw that many here… are not fans of either. Which was fine, at first I enjoyed reading other peoples opinion on the matter. Whilst it did not change my mind, it did open my eyes to some things I had not considered and I am a staunch believer in the idea that storytelling, like all art, is subjective with no right or wrong way to enjoy it. What wore me more down eventually was just how with some people, that level of passion leads to hate (hehe Star Wars) which feeds into other areas of the lore and even gameplay. Some add a level of spitefulness to it that I just do not understand. It made debating things and digging into lore a chore when you may be casually called a genocide supporter or mummy simp for topics that barley involve the character/issues.*
* Disclaimer, I know many people on the opposite side of the debate have received similar opposition and drawbacks when commenting their views elsewhere, and that sucks, but I am talking mostly about this forum in its current/recent state over the wider community.
I did have to use the ignore feature a while back, which is somthing I try and avoid doing. Not because of said lore debates though. You can disagree with everything I love about the game but in the end its just a story made up of pixels. Getting angry at people for lore differences is just plain silly. No, a few months back someone posted a thread regarding LGBTQ+ opinions (I think they where just a troll trying to stire trouble) and lets just say I HAD to ignore some people, otherwise I would likely have been banned for the things I wanted to say haha. Like I said, when it comes to lore or gameplay opinions thats all fine and dandy… attacking people in real life is just plain stupid.
Anyway, despite what I said there are some great people here and I have really enjoyed many of the discussions about topics I have seen/been part of. I am also likely a hypocrite who has probably also let their emotions guide them too much in said issues, and the fact is I do still keep posting and coming here so… take that whichever way you want!
The forums are just another form of reddit mixed in with everyone acting like characters from Yiik.
I think a lot of the "angry" takes are because people feel like they aren't heard.
There's been a lot of feedback on multiple things over years, but the english community seems to be sidelined most of the time and getting very little aknowledgement for things they bring up.
This leads to a loop of frustration and eventually people just shouting into void.
I'm really sorry to hear about your family situation, OP. Regret and remorse are virtues that teach many of life's most important lessons, but you can't allow them to weigh you down. We fall so we can pick ourselves up. I do hope you find peace if you are still seeking it.
As for the forums, the anonymity granted by the internet allows us to see who people truly are. They say the things that would never leave their lips in a RL conversation as there is no repercussion or consequence for it. I'm not talking about a ban from the forums, or even in game. I'm talking about degradation of character, and allowing RL people to see who they are under the mask they wear in society. Bear in mind that this falls on the laps of both the toxic, and the righteous. The latter is not exempt because many people are afraid to speak the truth when they know they will be punished for it. These people can handle facing heat and contempt on the forums opposed to things like losing their job, social status, or even a loved one. But make no mistake; they wear masks as well.
Ultimately, even though FFXIV is a game, it is still something that people invest a great amount of time into, and people will defend what they feel is right whether they are among the toxic or the righteous; or are unknowingly mutable of the two. If this is where people come to let go of that negative and/or aggressive energy, I would much rather have that happen in a thread like the one in question, than people harming others.
That is all I will say regarding this matter, other than I truly do love this community.
I feel like the forums is a very poor representation of the actual community in the game. If you based it on the forums you’d expect people to be mean spirited, aggressive, and vindictive. But after playing since 1.0 I’ve rarely ever seen people argue or otherwise abuse each other in-game. It happens of course, but the general vibe is nowhere near as volatile as it feels on the forums.
Honestly it feels like the forums are some kind of weird black hole of circular arguments that get stretched out ad infinitum but never actually go anywhere. But since it’s all inside this black hole, it can’t leak out into the game lol, so you have the forum community looking like a spaghetti while the in-game community is still an amorphous blob.
Basically, the forums to me seem to give an entirely different impression of the actual ffxiv community. But then, considering it’s the internet, I guess it’s unfortunately inevitable that there’d so many ‘troll posts’ (for want for a better word lol)
The forums are great at representing the absolute worst, most toxic parts of the playerbase, as thats where people who love to talk about the game more than playing it will go.
What's funny buddy is that between you and Aveyond...I respect you highly. You may be aggressively hostile to pretty much everyone you come across but at least you acknowledge someone said something...even if it's to tell them they are a big poopy face and then dismiss it all together.
You're like my Kurt Angle. You may be a heel, but you are MY heel and I at least get some sort of entertainment when you show up.
Aveyond though? Sorry I can't respect him. I get enjoyment though in people's responses to his stuff...just not what he himself actually says.
I know people could search my posting history and find im a big walking contradiction at one point or another. Everything I say is opinion and opinions change.
As of now...you may be a shinning example of what I don't like in how people go about thing...but you're also a special kind of malace that I dunno...I kinda dig it.
Again...I'm one big walking contradiction. I know.
Definitely true, to an extent. A silent SE on a myriad of issues. It took them until leading into EW to even mention they were looking into viera hairs, for example, and then apparently when they did address hairs at the start of ShB, that has now become a mistranslation (?). If we had actual cms involved with the community here, I think many would be a lot more positive.
That is because many players are too afraid of getting their actual accounts banned in-game. On top of this being a more discussion oriented platform, rules are skirted here seemingly more regularly, and even if a player was to get permad, I've seen many just laugh it off. I have seen lots - and I mean a lot - of horror stories regarding many players. Whether it be through Discord, Twitter, Reddit, or wherever else.
This.
2ch has gotten more official responses that the official forums have and those dudes are some of the most toxic/angry players in the 14 player base.
I'll admit I do go there and 4ch, and if I get some Hennessy in my body Reddit and if I really wanna slum it the other R gaming site. And what I've notice its mostly people congregating around likeminded people and mods/jannies cleaning up the dissenters. The only problem(good thing?) here is that with no mods/jannies to police and steer conversation, a lot of this place is just a bunch of people yelling at each other till they get tired and/or find a new thread to yell at each other till they get tired.
Forums are the perfect place to piss people off. What else are you gonna do with it? I wouldn't have used the forums if it wasn't so entertaining.
i feel like the avg xiv general discussion browser has 5x the braincells of your average wow general discussion browser
Because you can't say anything in game, not even "turn your stance on please" because it may get your account suspended for "bad behavior" and reddit it's full of fake "PMA".
Twitter it's the worst place so far the amount of whiteknights protecting with their lives every single decision of SE is stunning.
