I'd give that a read, pretty basic guide to what ports are and how they work.

I have a few laptops on a list that I do believe meet or exceed required specs but now more questions (intel i7 core, nvidia geforce rtx3050)
Ok, Windows doesnt actively support ps4/5 controller plugins but 14 does. Can I just start 14 with keys/mouse/trackpad then toggle to controller in settings?
If the laptop I purchase says its chip is "dedicated" I know thats better than "integrated" but will I run into any issues with play?
Ultimately I do not want to purchase extra doodads to shove into the thing because "oh sure you play fine but you could be playing more beterrer" like the laptop is meant to carry me til 7.0 when hopefully I can afford a real desktop.
All this extra stuff kinda makes buying a new ps4 and starting over seem preferable, even tho losing everything would kill me
oh also, how does one maintain wifi stability? My ps4 has only booted me out like 4 or 5 times in 3 years, not even during EW launch week, and I can log back in immediately however my current ungaming (it cant play anything on steam lmao) laptop drops its wifi connection after only a few minutes and that is not an ideal situation for playing an mmo.
oh ok. I saw you can plug laptops into routers that makes sense. My ps4 is ofc it never occured to me that might be the issue.
We only have one modem/router tho, does that matter? Obviously performance will suffer when on wifi as opposed to a wired connection but how much?
The real problem here is your psn acct. you can email them for assistance getting access back. Once you have that you won’t even have to buy the game again, you can just redownload it on the new system.
Also buy a PS5. A new ps4 would be a waste of money at this point.
You're technically correct however I mailed the actual email ppl twice and they both times said "not enough info" bc I cant remember my email password for nothing. So unless Sony unlinks accounts from playstation now, its either buy a laptop or start over on a new ps4.
Yes ps4. Not gonna bother buying ps5 online, and my local store didnt have any when they launched.
literally why is this even an option then ugh.
Its so disheartening.
I dont wanna start over on a new ps4 but yknow whats nice? I know the game is gonna work on ps4.
Ive been asking pc/laptop savvy friends all week about specs and this or that and its all "oh yeah sure that sounds like a fine laptop to play 14 on" like...why dont you KNOW?
It's not as easy to say with PC hardware when compared to consoles. With PC hardware you have a number of variables that could affect gameplay:Quote:

1. Which OS you're running and it's patch version.
2. What applications are running in the background.
3. Antivirus applications
4. Driver versions
5. In-Game Settings
6. Other installed applications
7. Actual hardware configuration
The above doesn't really apply to consoles as they are all (usually) the same hardware/OS/background processes so it's easier to say "this game will run fine" on there.
That said, looking at the current technical requirements for FFXIV (and my own personal experience) you'll be looking at something with the following specs or better (Just for transparency I'm fully aware this can be played on a Mac but in this instance I'm just looking at Windows-PC specs as I'm not a Mac user):
Windows 10/11 OS
8GB RAM (Personally I'd go 16GB or higher)
Core i5 or Ryzen 5 Processor (personally I would go i7 or Ryzen 7 as minimum)
SSD or NVMe Hard Drive - I'd go with minimum of 250GB personally. Game states it requires around 60GB, but you also need space for the OS and other applications.
NVIDIA Gefore GTX970/Radeon RX 480 graphics card (though I would say these are minimum - if you want high graphics you'd need something more powerful)
Im still weighing options so heres another hypothetical.
I buy a new ps4, new psn. I have the psn recorded somewhere safe so I remember it haha. I buy a ps5 later when they arent $300 more expensive/only being available thru online orders.
I DO NOT transfer data from ps4 to ps5 due to lacking space/wiring to have both consoles plugged in. Now, if my ps5 uses the same psn, I can just redownload 14 from the playstation store and it'll be fine right?
Well thank god. I kept seeing "oh heres how you transfer" and like...not everyone has the same and outlets available to have two big bulky consoles plugged into a ten year old tv I was afraid you'd get some "oop your licenses are on your PS4 you need to transfer that data" cool thank you.
Also, are there two different versions on the ps store on ps5?? Why not just have the 1?
Nope! If you happen to own the ps4 version of FFXIV, you can easily redownload it on your PS5 using the same PSN. And the PS5 version of the game is free if you do.
Got a PS5 this Christmas and was stunned at how easy it was to transfer data along with character backup data between PC and console.
Oops meant to add in on my previous post (cant edit it on phone it seems).
The differences with PS5 and PS4 versions of FFXIV on PSN is that PS5 has some extra features such as dynamic rumble on controller, lightning fast loading times (seriously load times between zones and even logins are like 2 seconds tops), 4k support along with higher quality UI and icons while PS4 version on PS5 just has silky smooth performance with stutter or lag being non-existent apparently. I still vouch for PS5 being just as smooth with its frames only very slight stuttering when you walk around say Limsa plaza, but it rarely notice it anyway since I tend to not linger there for long.
