Live letter is almost here

I feel like the weird structure of Stormblood's content was probably because they couldn't think of a good way to incorporate a dungeon into the 4.2/3 MSQ.

I also feel like we have to get in touch with the ignored Scions at some point in 6.x...and incidentally, both the twins and Thancred are busy with things in Ilsabard so as much as they claim we won't be able to predict the next expansion until 6.5, I think they're also a touch prone to underestimating how much people read into things

I do not believe that returning the twins or Thancred to the MSQ would be beneficial at this point. If the twins aren’t going to grow up and stop preaching then it’s best that they be left behind - and preferably avoid having child characters in the main party.

You could make a case for bringing back Thancred at a later juncture, but after a stunning performance of doing next to nothing in EW and having his major arc conclude in Shb, I don’t have much confidence in him being able to bring something compelling to the story.

Yeah you might be right. As the ending of Stormblood and the shifting into Shadowbringers ends with the Tsukiyomi fight which is just a trial. As the Burn is part of the ramp up going into Shadowbringers. Still a little bitter at the bait and switch and how watching that first fan fest to me took out the whaaaaat the heck is going on type of feeling they probably were going for when we had our almost died while having our meeting with the Exarch in the rift situation. I highly doubt many were expecting us to be aimed at going to the first. I was ready to have Stormblood 2.0 but this time with more grey scale while trying to figure out what was happening with the Scions. I think you can tell how adverse the devs were to wanting to deal with a Garlean centered expansion. Since they had us aimed at dealing with them at the end of Ghimlyt Dark while making people ponder what was going on with those that had been affected by the "calling" only to sweep us away to the first. Then go and destroy it off screen so that by the time we finally reach there it's in ruins and turns into a humanitarian mission. Only to be sort of touched on again in the role quest capstone and so far ignored by the MSQ yet again.

Menphina is worshipped fittingly by the Keepers of the Moon miqo'te, but they're more of a minority compared to their Azeyma-devotee Sunseeker kin, although it's unclear how deep that is given most Moonkeeper npcs tend to be solitary sorts, or random brigands, and no actual Moonkeeper communities have been seen (no those bandit hideouts in the Black Shroud do not count). I'm not sure but it would not surprise me if there were also a few acolytes of her among the elezen (specifically the Duskwight), given their preference for dark spaces and how Menphina's deity stone is in Coerthas overlooking Ishgard. As for the other two, worship of Nymeia was briefly forced on Ala Mhigans as the 'only supreme god' by Mad King Thedouric in the last years of his tyrannical rule, but it's not clear if any remained devoted once he was toppled (and in any event Gaius specifically forbade any religious worship during the Garlean occupation.).

I think now Nymeia is mostly just evoked by gamblers and the like as an Eorzean analogue for "Lady Luck", but otherwise has no structured devotion. And Althyk I'm pretty sure Sharlayan holds in high regard, as Louisoix specifically evoked his power to send the original Warriors of Light forward 5 years into the future during the Calamity (you can just make out Althyk's symbol appear on Louisoix's hand during the End of an Era scene, and the WoLs return 5 years later at Althyk's deity stone in Snakemolt in the Black Shroud (whether Amdapor worshipped him and thus Louisoix specifically put the deity stone there for that reason is a very good question).

Either way, it's going to be interesting to see how Myths of the Realm will depict them going forward and whether there will be any reference to this lore or not, although my gil is yes it will, but, we'll see. :D

There is at least one moon kitty that I can think of that we've known for awhile and that is the one who is apart of the archers guild. Then there is the moon kitty we were introduced to in this year's the Rising quest. Yet I was thinking more about how Menphina is labeled as the Lover. I don't know who would worship her in that way except for the obvious. Then the moon and later moons that form her symbol are called her hound(s). So is she supposed to be some Artemis/Diana hunting moon goddess equivalent? As nothing except for the mention that she's Oschon's lover hints that she's any kind of Aphrodite/Venus type. That and then look at how she is depicted. She is seen as a maid carrying a round skillet. She seems to be all over the place.

Looking at Althyk he too seems to be a jumbled mess. He's the surveyor of change and space. While also being the God of time. He's Azeyma and Menphina's father and Nymeia's older brother who is depicted as an austere Emperor who weilds a mythril greataxe.

Another thing about Nymeia as a place to look at would be the weavers guild since her depiction is that of weaver donning a white silken viel. I do wonder if we will see interaction between the Gods or not as some of them could be fairly interesting depending on who we get. As I stated that the alter alignment doesn't match how they're shown elementally in the few places we see all of their symbols.

Gonna throw in my two gil and say that I doubt it would be Ultima Thule considering how these dungeons are meant to level alternate classes and unless I'm mistaken PoTD and HoH didn't require getting to the lategame and were located in relatively early-level zones. I feel like it's more likely to be in Labyrinthos for that reason (though hot take - personally I've had enough of Sharlayan for now). As much as I would love Elpis, especially considering how there's an area on the map that looks like it would be suitable for a deep dungeon, I think it's also too late in the game to work. Having it be in Garlemald would be interesting (somehow I neglected to consider it as a possibility), I'd love to explore a lab and learn more about the awful experiments they conducted. I think Thavnair could be ruled out because the Uznair Canals are already there.

Garlemald would be the more interesting option simply because of how little there is going on there.
Aside from the final role quest, there's no significant content there right now compared to Sharlayan, Elpis or Thavnair.

Something with the tower of babil could be nice, i like it's aesthetic and it's not going anywhere, better give it some use.

Labyrinthos has the very conspicuously unused Meryall Pasturponics facility in the NE corner of the map, which could potentially be deep/variant dungeon material if it's where the gleaners store all of live wildlife specimens.

I also really would like to get to explore the magitek facility under the Tower of Babil at some point.

I think Garlemald is more logical than Labyrinthos as the location of a facility-turned-deep-dungeon. The dungeon setting requires basically everything to break free from its cages and roam the halls, which seems more likely to happen in an abandoned military facility than the heart of Sharlayan with the gleaners hard at work.

The natural story hook would be that the Eorzeans discovered this facility – maybe scientific/bioweapons, maybe magitek construction factory, maybe a bit of both – and it needs to be cleared out before the threats escape into the city and threaten the survivors.

Also, a game-structure level, Garlemald is equivalent to the Ruby Sea as the third zone visited and location of the level X3 dungeon.

personally i think it's probably going to be thavnairian

Random things I'm hoping to see (down the line):

1) Team up with Cylva Shadowkeeper on the 13th;
2) Rescue Unei and Doga;
3) Stop Meteion on the alternate timelines:
- Elpis in the past;
- G'raha's future;
*Unless I'm mistaken, according to Elidibus we *can* alter the future without creating a new timeline, so the First is probably on our WoL's timeline, if 100 years ahead, so no need to stop Meteion there;
3) Attend a memorial service for Papalymo and the real Yda, and maybe get a new painting of the pair that's not locked inside FC stores;
4) Find out why Lyse is avoiding the WoL for the last 2 expansions;
5) Resolve the Coerlclaw and Red Bellies' storyline - maybe something like the Bloody Executioners' plotline with Merlwyb in Shadowbringers;
6) Class/Job quests making a return, but reflecting our WoL's power this time, so impossibly fantastic:
- Regrow Raubhan's arm (White mage);
- Restore Shamani's sight (Scholar);
- Regenerate Arenvald's spine (Sage);
- Fish Thancred/Y'shtola's missing soul pieces from the lifestream (Fisher);
- Grow a field of Elpis flowers and show them to Meteion (Herbalist);
- Help Lyse finally earn her Archon rank in Sharlayan (Monk);
- Complete Ascilia/Minfilia's research on bringing back the dead and revive her (Alchemist);
7) More starting city stuff:
- Join the Syndicate in Ul'dah;
- Captain your own ship in Limsa;
- Become a seedseer in Gridania;
8) See the Leveilleur twins all grown up ;
9) Meet and spar with the real Azem in the past;
10) Travel back in time to 1.0 and come full circle on the game, remaking 1.0 as a new expansion - from our WoL's perspective it'd be happening in his future.

None of these things are likely to happen, but hey, the thought counts!

Elpis is not a separate timeline; it is the past of our own timeline. We did not create a split there.

And no, Elidibus never said that. He warned us against altering things in the past because we needed to return to our present as it currently is, but that could be about not creating a split timeline rather than altering things within our single timeline. Ultimately, anything the characters say about meddling with time travel involves some layer of guesswork on their part, as they don't have the entire picture.

The First is not at all a separate timeline; all of the shards together - being the fourteen pieces of the original Etheirys - exist within a single timeline running from the ancient world to here to the future. (The branched timeline leading to "G'raha's future" contains a copy of each of the shards, and the calamity occurred when its First was rejoined to its Source.) The shards' basic nature as copies of the same original world means they behave somewhat like alternate timelines of each other, but it's a different phenomenon and a lower tier of separation to the actual branching of timelines.

We can cross between shards, staying within a single timeline, but we have no known technology to cross actual timelines. G'raha's future is inaccessible to us.

And the "100 years difference" that G'raha spent in the First isn't anything to do with us travelling through time, but due to him overshooting his intended destination when he travelled back from his original future, combined with time flowing at a different rate there. We only travelled from "now" in the Source to "now" in the First.


TL;DR: There is only one known alternate timeline - the Eighth Umbral Calamity future, where G'raha first awoke - and we cannot go there with our current technology. Zodiark is still protecting the planet from Meteion there, and Hydaelyn will simply have to find a new champion (perhaps our reincarnated self) to deal with whatever happens in that timeline.

Holding out hope we get more side content with the Void Quests crew (and Ryne and Gaia too, considering Unukalhai's updated 6.2 dialogue)... though the original Void Quests released in 5.4, so it might be a while yet if there's a pattern they're planning to adhere to...?

Agreed. NPCs aren't gospel. That said, we players have a slightly clearer picture at this point, as there's alot we can infer from what we've seen. I definitely got the impression we did create a split. Several NPCs suggested it, most importantly:
- Elidibus, claims to both remember and not remember us being in Elbis, an impossibility, suggesting there are two timelines in place;
- Y'shtola, says something along the lines of "Our Hydaelyn must have some means to find out what Venat knew in the past";
- Hydaelyn, she didn't seem to know we had been to Elpis, paraphrasing "You know about Elpis? Then you must have been there!" Elpis Venat didn't have her memories erased, though, so if she were her, she'd have remembered;

Besides, the Venat we left in Elpis was hopeful, and more importantly, reasonable, not that dreadful pre-Hydaelin monster that had fallen to despair, the one that split the world in 14 shards over some nonsense about creating pain and struggle. Again, IMO, and an emotional argument, but I definitely believe we made an impression on her, for the better. She wouldn't have made the same choice after our encounter.

As to logical arguments, there's also the fact that only Alexander's time travel has been shown to create stable loops. The Crystal Tower's already altered the past at least once, when G'raha used it to travel back 100 years (it stopped the spread of the Black Rose), so we can infer that if it travels backwards, it effectively locks the time traveler in a new timeline. Yet for some reason, the events from Elpis didn't alter the WoL's timeline as far as we know it.

I have my own theory on why this is. Facts:
1) The Crystal Tower first went into timestasis around the time the Allagan civilization fell (5000 years ago), so from its perspective, any point in time after the end of the Third Astral Era is considered "the future";
2) Elpis takes place *before* the Crystal Tower went into stasis, so from the Tower's perspective, it's considered the past;
3) From a traveler's perspective, the future's fair game.

If we add this to what we already know, it'd mean that any Crystal Tower time traveler would conceivably be able to alter its own timeline from the 4th Era onwards, but nothing before that.

From the WoL's perspective, the events surrounding Minfilia and Warriors of Darkness had just happened a few months ago. When we travel to the First, it's 100 years into the future, nothing the WoL does there would reflect on our past. Elpis is the opposite, we can't alter its events because it already happened for us, so if we do - time splits.

Pandemonium shenanigans seem to reinforce this, as someone *other* than the WoL is altering out timeline. Though a good question would be why exactly is the WoL aware of changes to the timeline that we didn't cause.

She was hopeful. For us. And she retained that hope till the end. And reasonable, of course, that is why she made the only reasonable choice.
It's really simple, she saw the others were blinded dumbasses and probably said "f*ck that noise" and sundered them. Understandable.

The MSQ preview screenshot is the twins in Garlemald, and the dungeon seems to be there too. I'm glad we're finally getting more Garlean content.

None of those are proof of a split, and I would say that there is proof in the opposite direction.

We can't read well into Elidibus's shifting memory because his mind is already established to be a complete mess - frayed almost to nothing and then patched up with the amalgamated memories of himself, Emet and Lahabrea as stored in the constellation stones. He might be recalling his own memories as Themis, or perhaps he has stumbled on Emet's memories of our time in Elpis - maybe even both the subconscious truth and the implanted false version.

If you've quoted Y'shtola right, that can just be a matter of clarifying that she is talking about Hydaelyn as she is in the present day, and not as she was back all that time ago when we met her in Elpis. It can still be two points in time on a single timeline.

And as for Hydaelyn herself, she *does* indicate that she remembers us and is aware of the time loop already - from the ship at the beginning when she talks about reaching the point where our paths converge again.

Additionally, Argos trusts us when (from our perspective) we first meet him on the moon, because from his perspective we already gained his trust back in Elpis. This is not simply speculation but is explicitly stated in his mount description.

Therefore the events at Elpis are already in place before this story begins. The effects of our actions there don't suddenly snap into place and replace an earlier state of the present-day world, but can only possibly be a time loop already in progress.

I think the conversation you are referencing occurs at the Mothercrystal? That might just be along the lines of "now that you've been there, that means the time loop is complete and I can stop withholding information that you didn't know when I met you in Elpis".

On the contrary, I think the fact that we described so much to her - the Sundering and what would come after it - gave her confidence to carry that plan through, knowing that the world would be okay afterwards.

You're overlooking something here, which is that the Crystal Tower also runs on "Alexander's time travel". That's the revelation laid out in the Twinning - that the Ironworks reverse-engineered both Alexander's time magic and Omega's dimensional traversal abilities, and constructed an artificial Alexander in the heart of the tower to carry it through time.

By my take on the mechanics of time travel, at least, the act itself of moving through time will never cause a split. It is entirely dependent on what the traveller does in their destination, and whether they create a situation that is incompatible with the future they came from. G'raha caused a split by preventing the specific historical details of how the calamity occurred in the past of that timeline; by contrast, we don't know any historical details of what happened at Elpis, so anything we do there can still become part of the single timeline of "how it always happened, but you didn't know it yet".

We don't yet know what is going on with Pandaemonium, and at this point it can still be explained without relying on a "changes in the past shifting the state of the present" approach to time travel.

If someone had their own time-travel device in Elpis, they could transport the facility itself from "then" to "now" - meaning that it has simply arrived at the Aitiascope rather than being altered from not-there to there.

Or it could have been hidden in a pocket dimension all this time, or lurking in the depths of the aetherial sea, much like the crystal that started all of this.

The new deep dungeon is in Eureka??

OH! I bet it's the Eureka under Crystal Tower mentioned in ARR.

Yeah, I think so.

Called Eureka Orthos, definitely looks Allagan. The original Eureka in FF3 is effectively a boss rush in the basement of the Crystal Tower while the dungeon Syrcus Tower is climbing the spire, and FFXIV's Syrcus Tower is an amalgamation of those two dungeons.

I don't think it was mentioned as being under the tower in ARR but was definitely brought up in Eureka (along with, at the time, the first reference to G'raha since ARR) when Krile was talking about the story they were referencing when they gave the island that name.

I would guess that we'll be in the Source tower opening up the equivalent to the door we go through in the Twinning to enter the basement levels.

I was a little concerned that we'd be spending almost all of our time in the void for future MSQ bits, so more focus on Garlemald is welcome.

I'm really curious as to what the context behind Eureka Orthos is gonna be, though.

Diving and spearfishing being added to Bronze Lake in Upper La Noscea around the Wanderer's Palace. I wonder if there'll be anything interesting on the lakebed?

Nym would handily work for a part of Limsa's past roughly parallel to Sil'dih. Not as snug a fit as Gelmorra for Gridania, but I wouldn't be too surprised to see this lead into one of the variant dungeons.

I think it's technically "another" Allagan ruin G'raha was looking for clues on, because he didn't actually know that he was specifically looking for Syrcus Tower until he got there and met Doga and Unei. Should still be under the Tower, though. The first screenshot looks like the classic entrance in FF3, minus the portal, the second looks like the Aetherochemical Research Facility had a baby with Final Coil.

I'm wondering how this is going to work alongside Myths of the Realm. It would be kind of anticlimactic to finally get to Eureka and have the person who originally clued us in to its existence be unavailable due to scheduling conflicts. It's not like G'raha can't be in two storylines at once, since Deep Dungeon stories are usually a one-and-done, but I think it's likely his involvement will end up offscreen. Maybe we'll be teamed up with Nero instead? (Plus Koh Rabntah, maybe?)

Also wondering if two the bosses we fight will be Doga and Unei (easily explained as being other clones), since that would present an opportunity for slightly better closure than the original, rushed(-feeling) CT ending.

So guesses as to what that thing is on G'Raha's back? Portable orchestrion? An older version of the Aether readers? And why does he get a gleaner outfit before we do?

I think it might be an orchestrion because '' gods revel '' sounds like we are going to enjoy some godly festivities in the next alliance raid, and what goes well with reveling but music. I'm very excited because one of my favorite tropes in fantasy is gods and other great mythical beings having a good ol' time having a party, and potentially causing damage to people, structures and the environment because they are just too powerful.

I'm very excited because one of my favorite tropes in fantasy is gods and other great mythical beings having a good ol' time having a party, and potentially causing damage to people, structures and the environment because they are just too powerful.

I think part of the Revel naming is due to at least one of the set of gods we will be getting this round as they did show off the relm of Earth in a screen shot. As we will get Nophica and Althyk God of time and the goddess of the harvest. I wonder if we will get a Dread Persephone type deal or something closer to how Demeter was while Persephone was in the Underworld in where nothing grew and not even a Goddess connected to rainbows could cheer her up. As Nophica's whole thing is being a jubilant nature goddess whose only time they got "I'm going to break some legs." was when Halone went on that walk with Oschon. So yeah can't revel too much if you don't have enough food and a lot of time. I wonder if they will touch on All Saints Wake with this tier. Since a party in the relm of the gods is what is said to be happening during then.

Will it be Ice then Earth and have Nophica be the final boss so that Gridania gets an In the Balance-esque type song at the end or will it be Earth and Ice and want to show off how they like to party? Course we could just be over thinking the party theme.

Have to admit, I'm looking forward to hearing the song most of all - the music is consistently amazing!

It'd be amazing if we got some sort of 'rocked up' version of the New Gridania 'theme' music.

Unless they shake up the order we've already started doing them in, it will be Nophica > Althyk > Halone > Menphina. Then the next one will be Thaliak > Nymeia > Llymlaen > Oschon (who I'm pretty sure is already among us).

The first four already went in the order they're found in the book. And while it would be nice to have a song for each starter-city god(dess), I don't see them randomly ending the whole thing on Llymlaen with a gigantic epic battle like all end-caps to alliance raids have. It seems obvious that Deryk or his opo-opo is Oschon since we already have minions representing all of the Twelve (plus the sun and the moon) hanging out in the Realm of the Gods, but we're missing one.

Oschon is also different and set aside from the others in the creation myth. All of the gods except Oschon and Nald'Thal either came out of "the Whorl" or were born by gods who did. Oschon randomly just showed up one day. Nald'Thal himself was created by Oschon making a fountain of magma that cooled and became the twin god.

Late to the party for my own thread lol. I know its just a tease for part 2 but im still hyped. Myth and msq aside it looks like were going back to the first for various reasons, one of them being the relic weapons. Also if the loporrits dont have a costume at the end of the tribe quests then ill riot... Ingame...By petting them all.

I think I'm more curious about the "lands tremble" part, because the patch names are typically relevant to the MSQ in some manner.

Perhaps signs of whatever this "great change" coming to the world is are going to start showing themselves during the course of the void storyline already, though the two may not necessarily be directly connected.

Iirc 6.2 buried memories was a reference to pandaemonium and athena.

I feel like it's pointless to read too much into the patch titles. Too often they seem to be oblique references or "things that sound cool" but have little resemblance to anything that happens in the story.

Doubly so if the title implies some kind of death (see: A Requiem for Heroes, Death Unto Dawn) because so far they don't seem to carry through.


Also, the comma in Gods Revel, Lands Tremble" makes it feel really awkward as a title.

Well, considering that's a random plant creature found in Labyrinthos of all places.... hard to say (one even appears as a Rank B Hunt there called 'Green Archon')... so, your guess is as good as mine.

Also it could have been considered a round-about reference to the 6.2 main scenario with Zero and her Memoriate power and the memoria crystals created from that (after all, the WoL gets a few Echo visions from the memories of the voidsent contained within - literally 'buried memories').

So whether 6.3's title will also coincidentally be an oblique reference to the new main scenario coming is a good question.

I doubt that they will mix things up in the raid via the order. It just would seem odd to give an In the Balance type song to would be the first fight. As the song is very much not only a song befitting the Twin Gods but is seen as a love letter to Ul' Dah. So the devs have already set up expectations to have Limsa and Gridania's patron deities have similar songs. Course they could give us two unique songs this time as I'm sure Mrs. muderhobo who is worshipped by Ishgard could also be seen as worthy of another banger. Some people do want to be surprised by the devs. And as I said in another post the alters in the zone don't match what seems to be what we will be getting if one were to go clockwise from the two we got. Though it does make some sense. As Earth and Ice are the first two on the right side.

Hmmm... even so if we were to go with which alter we went to first and then visited 2nd it would be Ice and then Earth as the Ice alter is first followed by Earth's. And now I think Menphina is the rabbit cause lol moon bunny.
