Most hoods in real life look like a dish cloth draped over the head (unless they're tight fitting) so in that respect it actually looks great.

I do think it would have looked better if it clipped with the coat a bit more so you don't see a gap in the front (from the back it looks more like an attached hood).

And in Frontlines it doesn't really matter since it either will not be seen, or is also just a waste of time

Yeah, from the back it looks a bit better on everyone except Lala, on them it doesn't seem to blend in with the hoodie that's on the sweater at all.

$22 USD for a single outfit for a single character. Nearly half the price of a full expansion and it's not even account wide. Boggles the mind that people not only accept this but gleefully support it.

Kinda gross they put that emote on the Mog Store as well knowing people were asking for it since Bozja. Just keeps getting worse.

This is freaking adorable but come on 22?……Ill just wait for another sale or something…why did they get so greedy? That costs as much as a real life clothing piece.

Just gave it a try in dream fitting, still can't see any reason for me to actually buy it...

• Head: I want my WoL's hair flow freely, no go. :c Bzzt!
• Body: One of the few---if not, the only body piece that hides glove slot? I love the front view but not that pom-like tail from rear view. It also looks weird because the jacket itself has a hoodie when paired with the head slot. Fifty-fifty on this slot.
• Halfslops: The only piece I can see myself using but... playing a male avatar means I already have plenty other of these. Fifty-fifty.
• Shortpants: The stripes reminds me of chesire cat. Not a fan of this one. Bzztt!
• Shoes: I just don't like this piece :c Bzzt!

If I could buy the the pieces separately I would at least consider further to buy the jacket!

The emote? Eehhh... maybe?

The double hood situation looks a little weird to me, but I was still tempted to buy it. Until my friend in the UK told me he only paid the equivalent of $17.50 for it, which would be an easier sell to me than $22. I mean I know USD buyers always pay more, but ouch.

If they ever sold the slippers separately though, I might be in trouble lol

They should really make the hoods on body+head type robes and such go up and down with /visor. That would solve most of these issues entirely.

You can emote in CC. I traditionally flower shower the halfway cap point when the enemy team is aced and there is nothing else to do :)

Of late emotes that we can earn in-game are abysmal compared to cash-shop ones. Not a big fan of this.

It's not set up that way, though. Visor affects head pieces; coats are body pieces. Plus there might be weirdness with the character's hair model needing to be visible when the hood is down and switched off when the hood is up, which is not a thing seen to be connected to the visor setting.

I'm pretty sure they'd need to give you separate hood-up and hood-down versions of the robe.

I don't agree but fair enough and I'm sure if the shoe was on the other foot and you had people telling you not to buy something that you wanted and could afford, you'd be a bit annoyed too.

At the end of the day, I'm still going to use my money how I like. Not sorry about it. And like I said before, coming at me isn't going to fix the problem. You can't change someone who doesn't see a problem with their actions and this "problem" extends far beyond me.

If ya'll don't like paid cosmetics, cool. You have that right to not...just the same as people who do like them have the right to like them.

That sort of money is trivial for a lot of people. Why would they object?

Still better than sinking a couple of hundred dollars each month into a gacha game like many people do without complaining. $15 a month for near unlimited play time plus an additional $30 a month for vanity sundries to make the experience more fun is a bargain compared to a lot of the entertainment options out there.

If you don't want to pay extra for something, then don't. Your game experience isn't going to suffer for the lack of a few cash shop items.

What others choose to do with their money is their business, whether it's the morning Starbucks on the way to work (there goes over $100 a month), the bi-weekly lunch out at their favorite fast food/casual dining spot ($80-$160 a month), $20 a hour for laser tag (or more if you're buying a bundle), etc.

Can you honestly say you don't spend at least $25 a month on frivolous items you don't need to have just because they add a little extra enjoyment to your life?

I see both sides. I am all for people using their spending cash how they see fit, however, I'm also old enough to remember playing games (and MMOs) before microtransactions were a thing. For better or worse, they've discovered that people will happily pay for additional items that could have already been included in the game, and so here we are.

Some companies obviously handle it better than others, but I'd say XIV is a bit on the greedy side personally. I can understand F2P and B2P games having large cash shops, but this is a subscription game and so they're already pulling in a decent amount just from us playing. I get it, cash shops are just a thing now, but XIV's shop is impressively large, and the prices rival that of some of those F2P/B2P games. And as mentioned above, instead of letting us do a one-time purchase for extra storage (retainers) like other games, they rent it to you monthly.

To their credit, the cash shop items are mostly cosmetics that give no advantage, and those that do give a leg up, the impact is incredibly minimal compared to some of the P2W items you can find in other games.

But anyway, we all have our own personal point where we will feel a company has gone too far. I've bought plenty of items off the cash shop myself, so I am obviously part of the problem, but I've also really cut back on how much I will spend there, and now typically wait for a sale if there's an item I want.


e: Should add that I don't really like the new outfit or the emote, so this isn't just me being bitter about something I want being added at a price I don't want to pay. :P

The poster you are responding to might also consider that some people (like my spouse) have an expensive PC just for gaming. For my spouse, that PC, its monitors and other peripherals, and the furniture that goes with it, easily top US$5000.
Completely frivolous ... but way less expensive than our last vacation in Europe, which was also completely frivolous.

Testing it out with the Dreamfitting in an inn, I am rather surprised the coat hides the tail on a Miqo'te.

It's not an ideal solution, but I am of the opinion that hiding the tail looks better than bad clipping.

$22 for a pajama hoodie and another overpriced emote.

Squeenix has no shame.

I think the issue for most is that they're making us pay extra for items that they could have otherwise provided for free, in a game that we already pay monthly to play.

It's a bit like if your spouse spent all this money on the computer, including a copy of Windows for that PC, but had to pay an extra $5 for each extra app they wanted, like Notepad, Internet Explorer, or Paint.

One of the worst cash shops out of any non-P2W MMO and yet people defend it, sad.

Exactly this.

I understand why people look askance at a company offering things for sale in addition to the purchase and subscription price for a game like this, but in the end it comes down to two things:

1. Businesses are there to make a profit.
2. Completely optional items are available based on the discretion of the purchaser.

Number 1's pretty self explanatory and number 2, as Jojoya said, is up to the person deciding to spend the money. As far as entertainment costs or other uses of discretionary income go, a $22 glamour that I'll get hours of use out of is a better dollar/unit time value than a movie or a meal and drink out. It's all about perceived value. I went eight years playing this game before I bought anything from the Mogstation because I didn't find it to be of value given my financial responsibilities. Now that I have greater discretionary income, dropping $15-20 once a month is nothing so I perceive greater value in the purchase as the cost is a lower percent of my total income and I can afford to buy it in addition to spend my normal entertainment budget. Hell, one less meal from McDonald's for me and my wife is probably a good thing!

At $13.00 per month, plus a bi-annual expansion cost of $60, XIV costs 51 cents per day; that's just over 2 cents per hour when spread across 365 days. If you average one (1) hour of play time per day, that's 51 cents per hour ($13 x 12 + $30 = $186; divided by 365 = $0.509). If you average two hours per day, that's 25.5 cents per hour. These days you'll be hard pressed to find a not-free hobby that provides the amount of entertainment time per unit cost than this game.

You're welcome to hold your opinion on peoples' spending habits, but should think twice about expressing them in public. It's unkind and generally impolite to get down on people based on harmless actions that have no direct bearing on you. How others want to spend their money is up to them, not you, and it's not your place to publicly comment on their decisions.

Segueing into; no, it is not quite literally your business. Companies offering items for sale that are purely discretionary and have no direct bearing on game play is not an awful practice; it's opening up another revenue stream. At this point there's no turning back and we have to accept that additional monetization from the Mogstation isn't going away. People purchasing Mogstation items aren't promoting it any longer as it no longer needs promotion; they're just spending their money in the way they see fit.


TL/DR: Mogstation isn't going away so people buying from it aren't promoting it or causing SE business people to consider it as a potential revenue stream: it's good money to them and is here to stay. Businesses exist to make a profit and opening up multiple revenue streams is smart business. What people spend their money on is their decision and while you're free to have whatever opinion of them you want, it's not a good idea to express it in public.

Plenty will whale out and SE will keep doubling down on this situation. It happened to a number of MMOs in the past like EQ2 and WoW and history loves to repeat itself in an era where history would rather be forgotten. It would be silly to think that XIV wouldn't follow considering they are the new poster child of MMOs similar to how EQ2 was before WoW took over.

Oh come on, no need to go full Sasuke. During ARR and HW the devs/SE had to prove themselves. Meanwhile many called SE the EA of Japan due to the SE's money hungry ways and questionable decisions. Once XIV became top dog, what did you expect? Let me tell you the secret that will make you laugh at all of this...

It's a video game, don't sweat it. There will be more video games and there are plenty of video games already made that might be better! Have you played all of them? I bet there are some pretty good ones out there!
