And yet modern fashion is used regularly in FF XIV alongside many, many other styles. So basically, your average FF title. Would I like less modern fashion added in the future? Yeah, definitely. But I'm not opposed to having more options even if I don't like them.
I agree. They feel too similar to be given to us only half a patch apart.
The outfit from Ameliance isn't really my thing but it looks reasonably snazzy and could work on some of my characters. The Lawless outfit just feels like a duller version of the same, like they recycled an alternate version that was rejected for the first outfit.
Everything besides the jacket (except maybe the hat) feels too plain and similar to other things we already had.
There are so many more interesting things we could get instead. Even keeping with the jacket, you could have handgear that adds an optional "rolled-up sleeves" look or something.
Actually I prefer the glamour that we've been getting lately, not just with pure glamour pieces but the tome and raid pieces. (Though I think the 24 man raid gear is ugly and some people like it, different strokes) My only complaint is some of the treasure map glams are meh lately. But give me more gender neutral gear, less robes/skirts on casters, and give me gear that makes people mad and they scream "BUT MY IMMURSION".
Are you serious? Like for real? The armor is labelled Purgatory. What guards purgatory and is often described as being wreathed in flames?
Its a reference to angels. The Abyss weapons are all on fire like Uriels sword, the flaming halos reference seraphs and cherubim like the second I saw Purgatory I was all "ohhhh I see" come on now.
Why wouldnt it fit? We have everything ranging from medival glams to futuristic glams like the sharlayan researcher glam. We have modern glams like the best man suit. Have you ever been to the gold saucer and seen any of the bunny suit npcs?
I realize you dislike a particular style of glams and I respect that. But you keep claiming that those glams are out of place when that's just not true.
I think the fantasy of this franchise is lost on you. Sure it has high fantasy elements like dragons and knight wearing full plates of armor wielding swords. But it also has cars and guns and mechs and laser beam weapons.
This franchise has always mixed fantasy with futuristic. Cid Highwind wears cargo pants, a t-shirt, denim jacket and army boots. Squall wears jeans a t-shirt and leather jacket. Riku wears shorts and a crop top.
You might not like the modern aesthetics but you can't deny that they fit right into the franchise.
Sorry what they released doesn't fit your taste in clothing. They do, however, fit into the FF franchise.
That's really all that needs to be said.
>Doesn't fit this world
>Floating mechanical ball exists
Yes, sure, futuristic glamour not works in this world, sure...

I don’t like the modern sets, however that doesn’t mean it doesn’t belong in the world. The entire FF series has blurred sci-fi, fantasy, modern, and medieval. That’s part of its charm. You can wear a hoodie with a sword, or a wizard robe with a cell phone.
Reminds me of Rhydin for all you AOL RPers out there.
Exactly. I feel that they deliver enough to please both sides.
I don't think most of the casual glams we get don't fit the game's aesthetic either... It may not fit some specific place, but they certainly do for some others, sometimes we even see NPCs wearing that kind of stuff.
I agree we should have better glam. Specifically Garlean gunblade & glam. I’m so relieved that Yoshida decided to lift the ban off the Garlean gear.

However, am not bothered by fashion from the modern era being added into the game. This is nothing new in Final Fantasy games.
If you dont like them dont wear them.
Personally i like most of those you mentioned so ill buy or farm for them.
If thats the case then perhaps FFXIV should go original and not use characters or monsters from other FF games as they dont fit into this world either
Also "Can we please have better glamours" but all you do is bashing modern attire without any form of glamour suggestions which mind you they are all subjective.
Just because YOU dont like them does not mean everyone else hates them too.
I was saying this before as well, but it's kind of a moot point to complain about the style of glamour added because it's all subjective. It would make more sense to talk about the detailing of the pieces if they were of clearly lower quality than past glam sets, or if it was clear they were taking short cuts on those details since that's more objective, but just complaining about not liking the style has no value in my eyes.
Here's a more effective critique of the Street Attire set: I think online store gear in general should more effectively adjust to ears and tails rather than just allowing them to clip or cut them entirely. The point of online store glamour in my mind is spending money on higher quality gear, but I don't generally feel that online store glamour looks any different than normal gear really. It's just a matter of which one the team attaches a pricetag to, but online store gear should look higher quality, and adjust to each race better to avoid clipping.
It is less about fitting and more how some later sets look samey in regard.
The difference mostly comes with some pieces of the set like the Varsity Cap which comes with glasses or Frontier set which has a Ribbon (because the dress itself is awful to dye with the brown parts undyable), the latest one would be the Fedora even though HW expansion has them added.
Either way people LOVE these modern outfits, I remember how much of an impact the Casual Attire set from the Firmament put when it got added
It's the same old argument made by people who are highly selective in memory about what the FF franchise is and selectively blind by what the game has provided. Literally over thousand glamours that have various styles but apparently it's not enough or the current ones are too ugly or both.
All I can see is Dr. Strange magic portals.
On topic: While not my style, I don't mind the modern glamors too terribly much. Personally, I wanna dress up like a fantasy character in a fantasy game, but to each their own. As long as people are having fun with it I think it's fine.
I'd like to see more Job specific glamours. honestly.
generic sets just nearly always look wrong..
here's a fending set. it might look half decent for a paladin but looks totally wrong for a warrior..
heres a casting set. it might loks quite suited to a blm but looks totally wrong for a smn or rdm.
here's a striking set, has some decent samurai vibes going on but doesnt look very monk like..
here's an aiming set, looks quite ok for a machinist but totally wrong for a bard..
a lot more actually thematic options for jobs would be cool..
I do, because otherwise this posting would hardly make any sense.
And that run-of-the-mill argument Final Fantasy "franchise"... does anyone even know what franchise means? I am sure that this word has been misused here and is just being used without meaning. So what exactly does everyone here mean by this term?
Is it that hard to read and understand the first post? Level 1 Glamour is not Job Specific Gear.
And always these interpretations in my Postings. What is written there is meant exactly like that, every word. All of the Sets I've listed are inappropriate in terms of appearance, cheap, 0815 compared to older Sets. And what's "modern" in other Final Fantasy games doesn't mean it's the same in Final Fantasy 14 or that it fits into this specific game. The other Final Fantasy Titles also have other Stories, Worlds, Heroes.
People here act like I wrote that these ugly Sets needs to be removed, that's not the case. It can't be too much to ask to serve both sides and not just one side.
For help https://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Franchise
I think the problem OP, is that you just attacked a bunch of glamours instead of defining what exactly you mean by "better glamours". What exactly "fits" in a final fantasy game in your opinion? What sort of glamours are you looking for? if you're not just looking to have glamours removed, what would YOU like (specifically, not just "better")?
You would have a point if it weren't for the fact that the same aesthetics were and always have been present in FF XIV. As of FF7, and even earlier in fact, there has been high fantasy mixed with modern/futuristic styles in FF titles pretty regularly. Not in every title, but I'd say most of them. FF9, 11 (if that counts) and 12 were pretty grounded in high fantasy and not much else. So yeah, what applies to a lot of other FF titles applies to this game...because it's an FF title, and they clearly have a preferred set of styles to use in their games. You don't have to like it, but it is what it is.
IMO, the alternative isn't to make more gear job specific. It's to REMOVE restrictions on glam for pieces and let people mix and match for what feels right.
You still may have entire sets that make it harder to match a style (i.e. matching anything in the Abyssos set to a Dancer), but then you open the door to combinations from other sets that make things work better (imagine the Moonward Striking/Scouting Veil as a Dancer piece).
And, this solves the problem of level 1 gear being more "modern" and not serving as all-job glam for more fantastical looks - now, you have EVERYTHING at your disposal to play with.
This wouldn't be as big an issue if they removed Glamour restrictions, just putting it out there...
I've tried to keep an open mind with regards to the glamour gear we've been getting for a good while now but at this point I'm with OP on this. Doesn't help that they're all so samey, on top of everything
This is basically on par with the idea that a Barbarian, or nearly bare/Bare Armor isn't protective at all..,(it is, just depends on what the intention is.., like if you have a shield, what needs protection is arms/shoulder and legs/lower leg at minimum asides head maybe)
For me, I find some of the stuff interesting and the amount I can make outfits with is pretty large.., but hence they are not accountwide, I'll never touch em/buy.
[if it was, I'd sink so much money in an instant.]
There are many things one can look at.<like my reference to Barbarians above>
Be it Practicality/Basic Use. Style/Era/Timeline/Culture/Zone Appropriate.
or Simple Preference or expectation.
High Tech/C.Punky<but mostly Allagan rly> is coveted.
Practicality and Looks like it can do the bare minimum needed to protect. is out the window, and or there are ways to protect without even needing to cover the core at all.
and If its appropriate for the area. Tbh no one is dressed for the areas they are in. not even for swimming, or diving most of the time. and people know Old Future Tech Exists, and Sturdy Freshly Smith ye Olde styled armor Is made everyday. <whilst npcs make whatever they wish to wear. or the devs make them wear.>
tldr.
like others said. There is soo much we can wish for them to add but none of it has priority over others.
Ungender locking, Class Req Removal, and "Male, and/or Female and/or Etc" Styled Clothing made. so people can mix and match what they wish for.
This will go on forever to cover. But all know it's an exercise in futility.
unless the devs suddenly get an interest in a certain Outfit Style to Design for the foreseeable patches.
I’d like less modern lvl 1 gear for awhile. We’ve gotten lots. Fantasy themed clothes please!
Right. Now if only they were lvl 1 and for All Classes, too...
Yes, and unfortunately they're all modern (or near enough) clothes yet again.
Like, even ignoring that I'd personally rather they did away with restrictions altogether, why do we only get "Fantasy" Glams like the now super old Expeditioner sets, or the Wayfarer set, which they didn't even bother giving pants, once in a blue moon while we're drowning in minor variations of the same modern jackets, shirts, slacks etc. (not to mention the dozens of Eastern-themed Glams on the online store) at this point?
Personally, I think the modern sets are ugly and never use them. But it's w/e I guess. I feel like there's plenty of fantasy sets that are released.
What I want though is caster stuff without them being robes/dresses every. single. time.
Some design decisions seriously make me scratch my head. Like they'll have a good design but then start adding extra things or omitting things that just ruin it. For example, the scholar's arbatel chest piece. Great top until they added the stupid front cape.
Or the dai-ryumaku sets. One of the most shogun-esque looking sets and very fitting for samurai. But instead, they gave samurai/mnk the tank set with the arms chopped off when they should have kept the sleeves on.
Even the new savage set for sam/mnk irritates me. I love most of the set but they made the ugliest, clunkiest boots that go with it. And the only thing I can match it with is the shadowcleaver boots which I can't even get.
I could go on and on.
I'm sure these things look great as a drawing, but when they convert them over, some just look plain ugly and makes me think 'wtf were they thinking?'
