This exactly and then content and level cap raise will come later. Best thing will be new servers.

Can we implement the goodies Tanaka wanted us to have in 2.0 please?
^I'm going to re-post this video until we get it, I WANT TO MAKE A GIANT CAKE WITH OTHERS!
Actually, XIV didn't go into actual production till around 2007, when they pulled the XI crew to focus on it. This is why WoTG expansion took over 3 years for them to finish it. Zilart, CoP and ToAU didn't take 3 years for them to finish, even the conclusion mission between Zilart and CoP (Apocalypse Neigh) came out fairly quickly.
The technical demo was just that, a technical demo or we'd have a PS3 version of FFVII if we're using tech demos as a basis on when something goes into production.
Production of the content and software itself, yes, but it had been in the design and concept stage for well before that.Quote:

They have to give us new content, if not at the launch of 2.0 but very soon after.
Realistically once a few ppl get their first jobs to 50 on the 'fresh start' servers it will be a burn fest so everyone will cap fairly fast, (we will most likely see the incoming of rmt burn pts like the ones abundant in xi right now, making this burn fest even faster) then after they burn through ifrit, moogle and garuda (assuming they are still there), the story line quests and the lolraids they have given us so far ppl will start to fall away cause their wont be the promise of 2.0 and they wont want to run a raid 200 times for 1 piece of gear that will be outdated with the next patch or spend 10 hrs a day crafting. The only thing keeping most of us is the promise of 2.0, but if they dont deliver our servers will slow down as well.
With all the competition on the market right now and all the new and fun mmos recently released and soon to be they have to make it one hell of a game to compete with not only the other mmos but also xiv's own reputation. So releasing 2.0 without new content or without the promise of a content heavy heavy patch within a few months after release, xiv may sink.
It sounds like the obvious thing but SE isnt know for their brilliance in marketing
The promise of 2.0 is what makes me keep playing. I hope its good because Elder Scrolls Online is out next year and Will move to that if 2.0 isnt great!
They should also rename it to Final Fantasy XIV-2
Elder scrolls... That piece ofshit company can't release a not bugged of game that is offline, imagine the bug fest that this online will be. Plus, they deceived customers launching a sub par game for the ps3. That's why I hate multi platform. That's why I love Sony which invest in studios and launch great titles that no one can play. Too bad SE, can't see that they went down the drain when they start this launching ff on every console. Stick to your root SE.
2 years of development is a lot of time. :)
They have had a lot to work with as well, a lot of the design / art / content has been established for them with 1.0
There's something that people are failing to realize, although somewhat understandable because it hasn't exactly been mentioned. You all know, the odds of 2.0 being released with a slower pace of leveling ALONG with a level cap to at least 55 or 60 is very HIGH. Most likely there will be a good amount of story content with the release of 2.0, leaving us busy with a few somewhat clever fights to show off what the 2.0 client can do. I'm thinking 1 battle requiring 8 people vs a massive amount of enemies on screen at once to show off the ability to have a ton of characters on screen at once. Tutorials to teach us the new UI designs and other new things. You better believe they won't forget tutorials. And of course, like I said, grinding for at least the first month of the release of the game so even veteran players will have something to do.
I'm saying it right now. 2.0 will be released with a level cap increase. That will be our time killer. Then there will probably be a small dungeon similar to the style of DH, except probably with more production value in it, to show off something else that 2.0 has to offer. Then the real content will come after that.
To be honest, I like the game at the moment. It is not that time consuming and enjoyable. However, there is room for improvements such as more world wide events would make the game better. Like in FFXI, there was besieged, campaign, znm, salvage, einherjar, hnms(but no lame 20hr+ pop please or world wide pop) back when I played @ 75cap. The things you can do are endless. But right now there are just barely 2 things to do: Cutter's cry and Aurum Vale. During the down time when people are either offline or bored of running dungeons, I kind of want a variety other than chasing after lala's and miqos in uldah.

Conclusion of the Unbilled Period and Commencement of Subscription Billing
The unbilled period has remained in place for the past year as our development and operation teams of over 250 staff have worked to bring you FINAL FANTASY XIV. I apologize for the belated nature of my next announcement, but as significant updates to the game have been released over the last ten months, a portion of the team has also been simultaneously devoted to working solely on the new FINAL FANTASY XIV. This is an essential part of the process of realizing the ideal we have envisioned. Planning for the new FINAL FANTASY XIV began in January of this year, and April saw the start of large-scale tasks. Since then, however, we have made no compromises in the game’s operation and updates. I believe this is evident if you review the contents of the updates that have been released thus far.
The day i saw the new area design PDFs i was sold.
To me, storyboarding is everything that glues the rest together.
Take Xenoblade for example. Great premise, graphics, music and an entertaining battle system,
but shit storyboarding took the area progression in a boring, linear design that never surprised.
As a result, it's gigantic areas were like the current FFXIV, beautiful and mostly empty.
Its battles were interesting, but never made use of more interesting mechanics brought by progression changes.
(What is it about the surrounding area and circumstance that CHANGES the battle?)
Music was wonderful, but its placement more or less meaningless.
etc, etc,
As opposed to Xenogears. That game had purpose.
Now FFXIV 2.0, from the area PDFs we got some time ago, shows complete areas. Every corner of every zone, and there will be a lot of them is packed with SOMETHING interesting. Go take a look if you haven't. It speaks for itself.
Mind, if you don't like where the battle system is going, then you have a concern to consider, but every corner of these maps is a place. Even the tiniest sidequests will be more interesting when you go there. And the devs, when writing a scene, will be looking at them and writing better stories because of the inspiration they give. The music will finally have a place to fit more than it does currently, etc, etc, etc.
And generally speaking, by replacing the server system, i would think that the new one will be good. I really don't think they're going to screw something that basic up this time.
ALSO, the UI is going to be open to user mods, meaning, even if you don't like the UI, chances are you can go to X site and download a UI mod that is to your liking.
In other words, it's my feeling that unless you have substantial problems with the current direction of the battle system, 2.0 will deliver.
I'm going to say this plainly.
A lot of people are going to be disapointed with 2.0. Period.
Why? Inflated expectations.
What Yoshi P and the crew are doing is monumental, but most of it is backroom reworking. Those who are wise and took the time to read the outline and not expect much more than that, will be happy when the patch comes.
Those who think 2.0 will be FFXIV's saving grace and will turn water in to wine? As well as those think that SE 'better' deliver or else they'll crash and burn? They'll be the ones complaining the loudest on these and other boards on how 2.0 "failed' and how they'll never trust SE again.
This divide among the player base WILL happen, because people are hyping themselves (either positively and will be let down, or negatively and will spot every flaw and absence) - which is the exact opposite to do in these circumstances.
If anyone out there can listen to outside advice, listen to this: Stay neutral. Look at the outline and expect that. Take what comes with a grain of salt and look at what you like before you harp about what you dislike. Make your judgements on what you enjoy in the game, as a whole, before you decide to give a positive or negative outlook. And no matter what you decide, be open minded. Not everyone is going to agree with you, and that's just fine.
FINAL FANTASY XIV 2.0 will still be FINAL FANTASY XIV.
I think its safe to say that if you dont dig the battle system now, that isn't going to magically change in 2.0. we can trust that all of the dungeons, primal battles and strongholds are going to be in 2.0. These types of contents and their design should be an indicator for what to expect in 2.0.
So far FFXIV 2.0 isn't promising anything all that unique to the genre. The neat (unique) ideas are already in the game (armory, materia grinding, weapon skill combos, subligars, etc) and if you don't already find those to be at least interesting, then that isn't going to change with a new client.
For outsiders and naysayers of FF online games, 2.0 should be promising very simple things: top of the line art production, mechanical polish, and an interesting storyline. The design and flow of content and quest may drastically change, but the core mechanics that we have now will most likely be intact.
I cant wait to fiend on that PvP. >:D
Only read the OP, so I apologize if this notion has already been presented:
2.0 isn't promising too much. Some players are just expecting too much.
dont forget that not all features will be at 2.0, lots of them will come in patchs after that.
First i want a new stable client and server. Not a client full of things and bugged like a nest.
Strange where is this source i looking at you guys saying about level cap increasing? Please do tell me.
There is obviously going to be new content. But it's not all going to come out simultaneously. It would be a bad idea even.
there -will- be a level cap increase. When is uncertain, but we knew since the beginning of the game that it wasn't going to stay at 50 forever.Quote:

I must agree.... today i look back about "Eorzea ― The Making of a Realm #1" until #6.... here's the link : http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=ZxBol-NJFuA
Some sketch they showed to us is a bit different in game except equipment, monster, detailing. So, i don't expect too much for 2.0 for this year.. maybe 1 or 2 years again XIV will be better. Oh yea, i've said it (and this is my assumption) before on the other thread, at this moment they don't have enough people to work on XIV's content and world. *cheers* :p

from http://forum.square-enix.com/ffxiv/threads/46936Quote:
We’ll soon be releasing screenshots and videos showcasing the new graphics engine, which will be optimized to support both high- and low-end PCs. I trust you won’t be disappointed with that, nor the PS3 version.
Ok, this is hot...
I just simple think.: 2.0. is all that what SE wanted to show us at the release 1 year ago :P
I dont think its tooo much.. i think they had just the time, they needed for completing everything ^^ Im so happy to see what happens soon ohohohohoho :3 gogo powersqauereenixrangers *-*
Haha yeah all old squaresoft games were on nes and snes! As for 2.0 I am just expecting all the "coming in 2.0"
No more lag and a new client. :)
My 2 Cents...
Patches alone are heading in the right direction. Dev's listening to majority of playerbase.
New content is really great with only 1/3 to 1/2 the team working on it.
Post 2.0 - Full team working on the game. Content developed faster. Fun Fun Fun.
If 2.0 is even half as good as the game is now compared to release day, then I'll be happy.
Judging by the updates we've been getting I think 2.0 has been the main focus of their efforts for the past 1½ years. However, I'm not giving my hopes up and currently all I want from 2.0 is an influx of new players. I think new players and a new engine, with both dev teams being combined (pre-2.0 and 2.0), will lay the ground for a great future for XIV.
Once 2.0 launches, after 6 months (and maybe the 1st Expansion pack) I bet they'll cut the development team down from 250 to 125 unless they plan on bringing in 1mil+ players
I know what to expect the most in version 2.0(..and i'm quoting or paraphrasing SE info that was released last year, no more no less):
1.Metamorphosis
a. A complete redesign of current repetitive maps
b. The implementation of a new graphics engine
c. A new server system designed for increased speed and performance
d. A fully renewed user interface
e. The expansion of in-game community content
2.World Brimming with
Adventure
a. both revamping and redesigning area maps.
b. increased opportunities for adventure.
c. abolishing seamless areas to allow for more dynamic map design
_implementing at least three unique themes to each area
d. overhaul of enemy and object placement
3.Graphics Engine fix or rebuilt
(FINAL FANTASY XIV boasts some of the highest quality graphics amongst all
current-generation MMORPGs. Unfortunately, extremely high-end PCs are required
in order to experience those graphics.)
a. new graphics engine will allow us to maintain a high level of graphic quality while
allowing us to optimize the game for play on the PS3 system.
b. Genre-leading graphics on high-end PCs
_smooth gameplay on the PS 3 system and similarly-powered PCs
_fully customizable graphics settings to cater to a broader range of PC environments
c. *all current players will have the opportunity to re-customize the race, gender, and appearance of their characters upon the implementation of the new engine.
4.Rebooting Server System/ reDesign
a. Party/content matching for players from different World serversQuote:
the current server network used in FINAL
FANTASY XIV is inherently flawed and will require a massive overhaul to meet the
high expectations...
b. High-speed searches for PCs, items, player community data
c. Changes to the basic infrastructure to improve data transfer efficiency
5.UI
a. Add-ons are user-generated UI content created by fans from around the world.
b. An auto gear change system designed specifically to work with the "Armoury"
c. a UI system that allows for toggling between text and icon display
d. An environment that supports user-generated add-on content (PC only)
e. *PvP Content (Frontlines-three Grand Companies of
Eorzea will battle over control of newly discovered ancient ruins and the secrets that lie within.)
6.Player Community
a. Additional in-game community options
(Free Company establishment, growth, and competition)
b. In-game delivery and mail systems
c. Player housing (estates)
d. (again) PvP content
c. Revamping of the retainer system and markets
e. *additional playable genders
:) As I paraphrased and quoted above, I cant say to expect any more or less than plethora of promises for 2.0 but I do expect the dev team to work with SE to show us how much they've learned from past success and failure. So far SE has familiarized themselves with the MMO world, they can only improve or be original with their design and stick with it(hate 'em or luv'em).Quote:
only a fraction of the new features we have planned for the coming patches.
iUpdate:
Still, further ideas, improvements and creativity can be implemented into FFxiv. We can boost the speed of our chocobos by feeding him on the road. Chaoco raising also can be done along with chocobo barding. How can we influence our chocobo to perform better(maybe take more dmg from attackers).
Also, I expect gladiator to build up to become a DD in par with marauder.
Some say its intent was to tank but history as i know it shows a bloodbath of lessons about gladiators and they are purely fighters with versatile styles and traits. A Pld extending just from glad and not tanking efficiently is as pathetic as a DD missing every swing and not causing dmg. I expect improvements in design of battle roles(I don't care if we have to fight or compete for hate, or the role inbattle, as long as that works too).
iUpdate0.2
I expect Primal to drop something for everyone and introduce the treasure pool and lotting system. If FFxiv is about teamwork and communicate, than it's a feature better suited than what we have now.
They will bring in tons of new content but I don't think they'll be able to support a 250+ development team whilst making a profit, unless they manage to pull in 1mil+ players, although arn't they going to make a Chinese version of FFXIV 2.0 with seperate servers specifically for china?
The only thing I really need from 2.0 is better servers and no more 30002 related dcs.
Second on my list is a more rewarding loot system for primals and dungeons.
Other than that, imho, the game could even stay as it is now
They better deliver us all what they promised, at least the big things we want and will change the gameplay, if not this game will die really fast, and im here since launch so im the type with high hopes, but as the op. said they're promising too much, they better start working on that and hire more people to do the job, i dont want to read anything like "we wanted to add this in 2.0 but..."
Right now they have around 50-75 people working on 1.xx and 175+ working on 2.0, more staff will just mess things up, once 2.0 releases the teams will merge into a power-house and pump out content quickly.
The only reason 2.0 is taking so long is its pretty much a brand new game being built, the only thing they are copying over is most of the content
Sometime in December of 2010 the development team saw a reshuffle and Tanaka left the project and it was given to Yoshi. To the best of my knowledge Yoshi was a small name guy that had worked on a few Dragon Quest games and was chosen to take Tanaka's spot as producer/director because of the success of these games and the fact he is a avid mmo player but I never heard what mmos he played.
Yoshi had never worked on any mmos to my knowledge and was given a sinking ship and told make it float. The best example I can come up with how difficult this was is an electrician tossed into an ER room and told to perform heart surgery.
As if by the work of something higher Yoshi managed to keep that ship from sinking and was even able to rebuild it. Yoshi is doing something SE has never done before and that is have an open relationship with the public.
I do think there is a chance some things that were planned for 2.0 get pushed back to a later time but I cannot blame Yoshi if this happens because he has been very open to us and acknowledges what we want and dont like. In all honesty if 2.0 flops all I can say is the guy gave it a hell of a try.
So I'll say it again new engine, new UI, and new maps anything else would be nice.
