Mateus already is "Balmung 2". When Balmung was locked as Congested for a few years, the community chose to adopt Mateus for the Balmung overflow.

Now Mateus has a larger active population than Balmung.

An interesting experiment would be to rename Balmung, then add a new world named Balmung. How many players would know the difference?

Issue being that moving servers means you're leaving your FC and making it difficult to interact with them.

Cross server FCs would aleivate this, but it still just be a bandaid ignoring the core issue of availability.

Ironically Omga also kinda is, back then RPers who couldn't get into Balmung chose Mateus for NA and Omega for EU, since both were newborns. And yet still...

I do not own a medium house. I do not own a personal house at all, large, medium, or small. I belong to an FC that has a house, but I do not have a house: And if I ever leave the FC, I do not have a house. Also: That's an Elezen, not a Midlander. You can see who owns our FC house on the Lodestone, and it isn't me.

But 30 million was poured into the FC house, with 11 personal rooms between my boyfriend and I, the cost of the house, the cost of decorating the house itself, and the cost of purchasing 11 personal rooms. Several items in our house were 1 million gil each. Yeah, 30+ million has gone into that FC house. 3.3 million for the cost of the rooms to be purchased alone.

P.S. The FC is not a 'personal FC'. We're an actual RP FC, with multiple members. SMH.

I tried putting 8 bids in on a PERSONAL house. All 8 of my characters are in the same FC: I can't bid on 'another FC house'. Lots of people who want a personal house are in an FC that also has a house, I am no exception. (Also, I was bidding on a small, the SAME small: Not 8 different houses. Thanks?)

Another lottery period in the new worlds. As expected, Mist is a popular hotspot for a particular L plot, personal and FC alike.
All other areas have most L and M left.
I bought my FC a large in Ishgard and am the only person there right now. Most wards in that area have no houses at all.

So If you can move when new NA servers (and housing is a dealbreaker), take the opportunity and transfer.
Economy haven't been that rough on the new EU worlds as most might imagined. Only downside is if you have a large social circle and they don't wish to transfer with you.

The problem the NA worlds will have will be they're on a separate new data center. At least the EU worlds were added to existing data centers. Data center travel will help a little but they'll still feel isolated.

I suspect they'll fill up but they should do something like they did with Japan and move some existing servers to the new DC. It might not be popular for those being moved but it would help kick start the data center. I think they made a big mistake with Materia leaving it to transfers and new accounts and not moving a couple Japan servers and adding a couple new ones in Japan.

That might not be the worst idea.

At this point, their announced plan is to have the new EU data center have 8 new worlds.

I think they'd be better off having 2 worlds from each of the existing data centers and 4 new worlds on the new data center, with 2 new worlds added to the existing data centers. That would give all the data centers sufficient end game population to fill queues for end game content or the side content that most players ignore until they reach level cap.
