There's another aspect that's being skipped over tbh.

The cycle in the current system makes it trivial to check and see if there are any plots available as you really only need to look once in a given lottery period and then bid if there's anything.
With the old system, people looking for houses had to check pretty regularly because something could go up at any time. I got my house on my old server because I got lucky and no one else noticed it was available in the few hours before I was able to buy it.

One is less time investment so more competition, the other is more time investment so less competition.

No it clearly is not. It stung even more when you lose the chance to buy a plot just because you werent in the right time window for obtaining it. People would have to get stupidly lucky which from the sounds of the posts surfacing to argue otherwise that seems to be the case. There's nothing good about that for a very limited housing system. At least with the lotto, you dont have to worry about trying to fit a schedule to dedicate time to click a placard or fight over bots. Everyone is under equal chance for the rng gods to smile on them. The new system is much better for the majority of folks. There's no "fixing" a system that clearly wasnt built to accommodate every player in this game, only to make the acquisition for it as fair as possible for everyone.

I'm super interested in how, even why, you've been monitoring the countless individuals commenting on these threads to the point that you can say with certainty that those who are annoyed at the lottery are those that were begging for it. My observation has been more that the people who like the lottery hated the old system while those that hate the lottery typically seem to focus on how it's not an actual solution.

Well, playerbase and people are a very "wide" terms. and each person may have a different thought, lottery did some good, but most people think instanced housing will do even more good.

even if you did instanced housing one or two gamers would say that they dont care about that, and want the feel of neighbourhood, you cant just please 100% of people, but pleasing more and more is how it works imo.

For years these forums have been littered with the we need a lottery post. There have been probably over a hundred of them. Now you come here and see the exact opposite tone. I've literally seen a few of the same people who begged for a lottery now crying about it. So yes it's funny to see a complete 180 and no you don't need to "monitor" anyone to see threads that are plastered on the front page for all to see. Nice try though.

Seems trivial, look for Live Letter recaps that mention both. If you can't find it then it's more likely a comment from Mr.Happy than Yoshi-P.

I am one of the people who vouch for instant housing. Its the only solution that will end this madness imo. But even then there are some who like community feel. So yes you're right about not being able to please everyone.

I knew the lottery system would only be a bandaid for a larger problem. We need instanced housing. This housing system needs to be removed and replaced, and homeowners need to be refunded.

Actually, that would be entirely expected for a pretty simple reason. People are far more likely to come on to forums to complain about something they don't like.

People that wanted lotteries would have been coming on to complain to get them, now they have them they don't have as much reason to engage. People that don't like lotteries have reasons to be upset and so come on to the forums to complain about them. Two potentially entirely distinct groups that are being consolidated into one.


You'd also expect familiar faces because there will be people who realise that both acquisition methods are just bandaids on top of a system that is flawed and the actual issue

i would be careful of drawing such quick assumptions. I far, far prefer the lottery system even though that doesn't mean that I may (in fact have not yet) won. That doesn't mean that I consider it acceptable long-term, I agree that instanced housing would be fairer long-term.

I would hope that SE is able to pull the numbers of people that are applying and then use that as well as as the feedback from the community to justify the effort it would take to develop it.

I didn't say anyone finds it acceptable long term because it's clearly not. It's just what was asked for and now peopl see it's not all rainbows like they thought. There's only one long term solution really and that's instanced but they are hard against it because they want to keep the community feel which imo is silly especially when you still have single people owning entire wards. There's no community in that.

It's better for people casually looking for a house and worse for those who'd be willing to put in the hours and days monitoring wards for a plot to open up.

People asked for lottery, you get what you sow, enjoy it, and this is only the beginning, once the leftover smalls are gone too, there will be absolutely nothing left to bid on, and the only plot available will have 200+ bids on it. Bots from placard camping are gone, good job, big success, now you can be agaisnt 200 "real" players instead.

Like Sairys put it, its easier to casually drop buy and drop a bid and check on it in a couple of days vs how it use to be when you had to guess window openings or stay and click all day.

I agree 100%, getting a 0.01% chance 3 times a month because the lottery cycles are extremely long and there are 150 bids on your plot is so much more fun than just camping for a few hours when a house comes up, what a blast

Last night when I made the 'rounds' of all five housing zones to place my bid, I found the following:

- Dozens of plots that had 2, 3 or 4 bids on them, at the very end of the entry cycle.
- The maximum number of entries on a plot was 58. I avoided that because...
- ...identical plots in other wards had less than ten bids on them.

In the end I picked a plot that had three other bids on it, mine being the fourth.

I guess participation varies wildly based on server? That's fine, I can understand that. Stating things like '150-1 odds or much worse' is hyperbolic, though. Did you even look around? Places like Empyrium were rife with open plots and low participation. I visited some two dozen open plots in one ward there, and at least half of them had fewer than ten bids. At the tail end of the cycle (2am-ish, PDT, six hours before entries closed.)

I'm kind of curious how those pining for instanced housing would feel if they stepped into their instanced home and noticed that they can't get any of the indoor glitches to work when trying to decorate. You know, because it's entirely different content, and the devs didn't bake those glitches in.
