The question is, how long that gameplay bit would be. A few seconds like last time? We don't know. Also, like Delsus said, they can still show gameplay, but not the CGI movie.

Yes, I'd like to see new zones and more of the new engine, but that's because we already have a lot of info on the game. Their main goal is to get NEW players, or people they lost interested in the game. Simply showing a trailer won't do, and they've realized that.

The optimal would be to show the trailer AND the new info they plan to release, but for whatever reason they decided against the trailer. I named one possible reason, time will tell.

hmmm i forgot about gamescom :) that on aug so i'm guessing he waiting for that seeing how alpha gameplay was played in gamescom putting a video or even a taste of 2.0 sound right there really not a lot of EU players so getting more players there would be a better market plan but not doing something big for E3 still seem weird too me.

They should just show some stuff to us. We are playing this game and I did that waiting for stuff two years ago. That promotion website better be up right after E3.

We can always hope that SE has worked out some PR blitz in August, like a Game Informer Article, new website launch, interviews/previews on IGN, 1up, and other sites, etc. That would be a good way to market it, especially since they're trying for the whole "Comeback kid" thing, something that has never been done in MMO's.

Yup pretty much what Viion said, I couldn't care less about CGI opening stuff, what I wanted to see was actual in game footage. (My point was that they said to expect a trailer with in game footage and now they have changed their mind) If I appear to be whining it might just be because I don't like being lied to.

That being said I don't understand why they would flood the news in August when there is no media events around that time, they seem to be purposefully missing both E3 and TGS and it makes no sense.

A website silently coming out of no where wont really help much. If there were "new players keeping tabs" there wouldn't be a lousey 80-100k views on his news letters (combined).

your wrong gamescom is August 13-15 seeing how a demo was play at gamescom and i think there a very low players base in EU so i see why that could be holding off too then still pretty dumb not trying to do something big for E3 beside some information lol

A trickle of new material is a trailer and saying how things will be, then over time releasing more info and gameplay, a flood of new material can be gameplay, screenshots and more, then they show all the changes with 2.0 at E3, everyone who watches the conferance starts to drool over it, gets their preorders in without thinking and when 2.0 is released they find out if its another failure or a success.

I would expect gameplay of solo play, some quests, parts of a dungeon (including atleast 1 boss) if we will have it on 2.0 release some large scale PvE/P and some small scale PvP, possibly some snippits of gathering and crafting.

If they do all this it will start to appeal to people alot more, especially if they see some of all content.

He can go to deliver press interviews and visit the show himself. Just the fact that he's going doesn't mean FFXIV will be there in a significant way. I'm willing to bet there will be nothing new at E3 and we'll have to wait for the site launching "shortly" after.

Even re-reading the letter it's not clear exactly if he's implying there will be NO new material at E3, or just that one trailer is lacking (why pull back one trailer if there's other ones? Doesn't sound like a big deal) or there will be some thing at e3 but not much.

It's totally unclear.

I'm surprised all you disappointed people haven't already taken up the philosophy of "Hope for the best, expect the worst."

Anyway, I am kind of glad there won't be a 3~4 month period of video and actual releasing of 2.0. Video just before release will build more excitement. I'm sorry for all of you who are saddened :( *hugs*

When a Company is trying to get their game into the light.. there's really no such things as "lies". If they "feel" that Not showing the Trailer there and its better to show it at gamescom, but still show alot of stuff at E3 Regarding FFXIV in General to people who don't know, so new people can see the new improvements of the game. Then so be it. It doesn't make them "liers" they just think that this is a better route to go.. the only thing us players need to do is accept it.

When, it comes to Marketing, things can and will change, it doesn't make them "liers". Yes its a let down for us waiting for it.. but we also have to understand their position, if they feel this is the right way to go. then so be it.

Again, Yoshida said there will be multiple movies, not one trailer. (UNLESS. It's a translation mistake, as Japanese nouns don't have plural) So even if they don't show that trailer, nothing stops them from showing everything else.

No one lied to you, either. It was planned, plans changed. You've been told about the plans changing, no lies. Lying would be coming to E3 and not showing a trailer.

Its clear as crystal actually to me, Yes there's a great chance that there will be little to no FFXIV 2.0 @ E3. BUT they are Targetinig new players If you read that part getting New players to know about this game.

Instead of Showing the FFXIV 2.0 Trailer ( which is obviously the 2.0 CGI Movie), They are showing New players the current version, and how its going on the road to 2.0 (but only show 1.0 stuff).

If all they're holding back is ONE trailer, that's hardly a "flood of new material". If they were to release some stuff at e3 and a trailer later, that would be "just a trickle".

No lol, as I said I have no interest in CGI footage, the way the producer letter reads to me and maybe (just maybe) I have jumped to the wrong conclusion is that SE won't be showing much at all at E3, I guess we will have to see in a week or so.

What I am disappointed about is that they led us to believe otherwise and have since changed there mind, sure shit happens ... are you saying I am not allowed to voice my opinions ? or is that considered whining ?

Seems like only you and me are the only ones that understand the meaning behind the letter :/. Keep forgetting theirs more trolls than white knights ( if you wanna call us that anyhow) I'm just speaking my mind on how I see the letter lol.

Just for the record I AM DISAPPOINTED THAT THE TRAILER ISN'T COMING AT E3!! But I also understand why they revoked it too till August. People just only look at 1 side of the coin when there's 2 sides to every coin. :/
