All the new crafted gear is just recolored pvp gear from the past.

looks extremely boring. wish they would replace whoever is responsible for the clothing design
I'm just happy it provided me with another option for mid-length leg wear.
They've been getting called out by players for creating too many contemporary glamor options. Look at basically every crated glam from Shadowbringers and you'll see they've not really put out any fantasy glams for a few years. We really didn't need an off the shoulder sweater and skirt that only female toons can wear to add to the contemporary look. We've been overdue for more appropriate in-universe options, especially in this case for male toons who can't wear Alma's outfit, and for whom this is a similar style.
Yeah, I won't lie the fact that this is a FANTASY looking set in my Fantasy game is what has sold me the most.
I loved it. Personally I have zero interest of all these "normal day" clothings and specially school-like manga clothing.
From my perspective it’s a bit bland. But I can’t deny it boasts a fantasy aesthetic. The best thing about it is that it’s price won’t be ridiculous due to its design and purchasing it won’t break the bank.
And because it isn’t edgy - rebel set - or somewhat revealing it’ll cater to fans who want a humble outfit.
Having appropriate in-universe is one thing...having one of the most lackluster glams I've seen in quite a while that looks like it could be worn by a vendor is something else altogether...especially when it's supposed to be the big new shiny that they want people running the maps for. This doesn't even take into account that FF has always been a mix of contemporary/fantasy/scifi, so I'd love to hear people point at a specific piece from in the game and say "this doesn't belong in FF".
This. There has been so much modern clothing given as our one-per-patch glamour lately, and our options for fantasy-style clothing are lacking as a result.
Many of the modern-style outfits feel very limiting because they only make sense paired with other modern-style clothing, but for me the appeal of glamour pieces is being able mix them with the gear you get from dungeons to create something interesting.
It affects NPCs as well, because it becomes the pool of outfits that the character builders have to draw from. I feel like the Firmament particularly suffered for this – both the characters' outfits and the prizes not fitting the setting.
On a side note, there have been 25 glamours with the new cloak posted to EC already.
Surprised so many people are fine with capes that act like cardboard and do not have proper physics.
...which is completely normal for this part of the patch cycle, at least since Stormblood.
Stormblood:
========
Tier I Crafted gear = recolour of World of Darkness gear + unique weapons
Tier II Crafted Gear = recolour of Void Ark gear + Zodiac relic recolour
Tier III Crafted Gear = unique armour "Rakshasa" + recolour of Asuran / Doma Castle weapons
Shadowbringers:
===========
Tier I Crafted Gear = recolour of Mhach / Dun Scaith gear + unique weapons
Tier II Crafted Gear = unique armour "Neo-Ishgardian" + recolour of Forgiven Weapons (lv79)
Tier III Crafted Gear = unique armour "Exarchic" + recolour of Bluespirit Weapons (Lv74)
And now, we got recolours of PvP Roman gear but unique weapons. And it will only continue to have recolours down the line, partially because designing more and more original gear is factually hard when you already have over a hundred pieces of gear per role without counting recolours, and partially because certain recolours are actually sought after. This set for example has replaced the silver-goldish metal for a more bronze-gold tone and the dye regions also differ.
Creativity isn't that easy folks and neither is the process of ensuring every piece fits eight races of two clans and two genders (barring Hrothgar at the moment) of various sizes actually fits aside from tail / cape physics and don't have like 20 polygons / 16 pixels per m².
As much as I generally prefer new stuff to re-used assets... the fact that I can get those old pvp skins without having to pvp is definitely something I appreciate. >_>
As to the new outfit... meh, I can take or leave it. The top and the boots aren't things I can see myself using, but the pants and the wrist bangle I might.
I like it. To me it remembers the hobbit clothes in LotR :)
Will I ever find better knee boots than Mheg Deaca's?
No, no I won't. Because your only options for knee boots in FFXIV are "dork" or "stripper".
The pants and boots are nice! Hopefully the market board is kind to it and it's not Thavnairian dancer outfit-tier expensive.
I really like it... dunno what's "hideous" about the glam. I am happy about it.
Why haven’tI seen these on a lala yet.
Definitely disappointing, though most of the crafted glams tend to be hit or miss. Would appreciate a proper form fitting, off shoulder sweater, though, as opposed to the chunky, physique-absorbing one we've been stuck with for years.
Will never understand the complaints about "modern" clothing in a Final Fantasy game of all places, as if this isn't the series norm for many years now.
I think the new set looks rather cute.
Be nice if they made the cape part of the head gear or part of the necklace. Really clips bad on tailed races.
More futuristic/sci-fi in the main series now typically. That's one reason I'm looking forward to 16, because it's not that.
XI and XIV are more fantasy based. XIV, however, cashes in on fanservice and nostalgia a lot and I think it's starting to suffer thematically because of it. The XV crossover event would be the turning point I'd say, and since then it's been years of contemporary or futuristic glams.
? But we already got a school set like a year ago. We want another school set?? That would be the third school set then, wouldnt it?? Enough with the school sets already. For those wanting modern clothes, we also got those air force one outfits not too long ago either. The casual set + whatever other set that was that gave the high top sneakers. Then also girls got that really cute frontier dress. To be honest, their fashion releases have been pretty well rounded.
A better way to approach this would be to post examples of what you're hoping to see (ideally something we dont already have).
Just saying "I want something not bad" will get you nowhere. People are visual. They need visual examples to create what you're looking forward to seeing. I'd post some, but so far I dont have any complaints. Well and to be honest, I tend to prefer armor over mog or map outfits. So it'll have to be someone who cares enough lol
And, personally, I would have found Yshtola's manga outfit to be hideous. I actually like what they added. I'm just not paying an arm, leg and my hypothetical first born child to get it. I think the only glamour piece I've ever bought within days of it being released was the Rebel Coat back in Shadowbringers. No regrets though.
I suppose it would have been helpful if I had read the entire OP, I was responding to the sentiment of the thread. It's not the first time I've heard this, multiple times since launch I've seen people say similar things when someone comments about being unhappy with the new set.
Don those on Lalafell, and they look like hobbits.
Looks lovely to me. :)
I hope we get more similar clothes & accessories in the future, such as Strix’s lace collar, and Mother Porxie’s gown. I really like the fashion of the Renaissance era. :)

Top looks really cute with a skirt in my opinion.

I don't really see the point of seeing the Scions as students...
I know that the Japanese student fantasy speaks to many, but I don't see it, the dear Scions are fine as they are with their new outfits.
And that Treasure Hunt glamour will remain in the past for me, it's hardly better than the crappy skin you get everywhere.
