Who said you need to do leves? I didn't do any leves. I just killed regular mobs. I would rethink that today, since leves are juicier in $$ and xp. Back in 2010 they weren't.

In general, I hope they:
- Reward teaming up and good teamwork.
- Punish exploitation and exploiters
- Mitigate the grind as much as possible
- Focus on story, and mix that into the experience as much as possible
- Rather than Quests cause events, Have Events cause quests.
It isn't just about leves, it's about the quests, grinding, and lack of innovative new content which is integrated with story and events. Getting power leveled and grinding on raptors are not "fun" or proper ways of an enjoyable leveling experience. I think people are missing the point and not understanding that new players will be very frustrated/bored with the current leveling systems. I am not the one saying I want a broad player base and to become a top class mmorpg in a global market... thats Square Enix doing the talking. I'm just asking how will this stand up to current gen mmorpgs. What is Square Enix going to do about this? People can white knight the game all they want, but that doesn't change the fact that the current system will not attract new players.
dont think we will hear much about 2.0 till after the e3 video at best. but when the beta comes we'll find out.
As a new player (I played at release, but started again less than a month ago) I've already reached level 42 without any PLing.
Leves are a good way to make decent EXP and at the same time make some gil (I'm sure at level 50 crafting, you can dwarf it easily) In many games, they make it hard to make money at the same time as leveling up, which makes you feel as if, even though you're getting more powerful, you're still stagnant. I personally like Leves a lot, they're all pretty varied (again for a new player) and they provide a challenge.
I've been playing with 2 irl friends, and we've been leveling up together, a lot of our EXP came from quests and partying. Leveling up hasn't been too grindy yet, it was a bit slow at 20-30 but spacing it out with leves made it more fun.
Hopefully they make leveling actually fun in 2.0 instead of the boring grindfest like it is now.
My thoughts:
1. I agree that PL needs to be eliminated. While we're basically in what a lot of people call an "extended, paid beta" I don't have too much animosity for it, but for the game's long term success, it can't just be a race to level cap through PL.
2. Leves/Dungeons/Groups/PVP/Quests - This should all be included in the levelling process. However, I'd like to see a more natural progression, such as leve's that send you to Toto-rak, or leve's that gain a bigger xp bonus with more people (kinda like old leve-linking). Personally, some of my favorite ways to level in other MMO's in group dungeons, be it random or with guildies.
3. Balance, balance, balance. If one type of xp method dominates the entire grind to level cap, the player base will adopt that as the primary (or only) way to level. Again, I'm hoping the zone redesigns allow for natural progression by a variety of content, it would even be cool if mixing up xp levelling activities provided some sort of xp bonus.
4. The current state of leveling, pre-2.0 - I've taken my time leveling classes. I have one 50, and one 42, as well as several classes in the 10-25 range. I try to use all methods available, except "questing" because the quest system is a bit inefficient in its current state. Right now, I feel solo leve's and xp parties provide the right balance in xp gain per hour. Parties are faster than leve's, but leve's CAN be used to solo (most of my 50 con was leve's, my 42 mrd has been variety). However, the dungeon gaps and motivations for dungeons make them fairly useless for levelling. 25-45 there are no dungeons, which makes that portion of leveling boring without good xp groups.
I like leves. Join EXP parties if you don't like them. I figure they will be more prevalent after 2.0 with redesigned areas and mob distribution.
As it stands, you can solo your way to 50 or you can party and co-op your way. I think that is just fine. I choose to solo my way using leve quests and GC leves, others choose to party and co-op grinding and strongholds. You learn different skill sets(player wise not in game) and strategies and both have their place. I don't think there is any need what so ever to change how we can level. They have opened the doors for solo players and team players and that is the best we can hope for.
If anything perhaps adding MORE leves with different stories and more creative objectives. Perhaps leves that focus more on story less on "kill X" before time runs out.
Edit
you can also PL your way to 50, which is completely player choice and really helps with people who have already experienced the 1-50 grind and simply want to get a job to 50 with out the hassle. There are plenty of ways to get from 1-50.
There is Toto-Rak.
What SE could introduce in 2.0 as low level and mid level content are more dungeons, more class specific storyquests (like the guild quests. With this you can't burn through all the quests with only 1 class with no remaining quests for the other classes), race specific storyquest, gender specific storyquest, much more GC missions, more party quests and cooking competition content.
With all the complaints bout the Levequest system, I have to wonder if people actually go out exploring, or do questing at all.
granted, we don't have 7 years worth of added quest content to fill all aspects of leveling yet, but I found no problems with the Leve Quest system as it stands.
With each tier there is a new section of Leve Quest types to do. This is not including exploring other camps for different types of Levequests.
The only thing lacking in these quests is a story element, which you gain by going out and questing normally. There's a fairly good pattern of quests at each bracket of levels now too, which will likely change and grow with 2.0.
Perhaps what's happening is the fact that so many are accustomed to having quests pretty much shoved in front of them screaming "here, here, I've a quest for you!" and when you've exhausted the quests at that point, they immediately shove you off to another location where there is more quests to do.
Here, you actually have to explore some, and not every NPC is asking for you to tie their shoes for them.
If there is one thing I feel is missing is a sense of desperation in storyline, or intense action outside of Dungeon battles and Primal fights.
But the Leve system as an easily accessable way to solo grind? I don't see the fault of the system, honestly. It doesen't need adjustment so much as additional content surrounding it. Perhaps group orientated leves for extended parties, or some directional assistance for quests (of course additional quests as well) but the content we do have with it? It's fine as is. Just give people more choices.
