Having done the post-game unlocks – first the last few aether currents and then the bonus dungeon – and it continues to be a difficult thing.
Unlocking flight and taking off into that eerie sky suited the full song playing, though would probably work well with the full-but-lyricless version too.
But the quest unlock... I heard the first verse of the song about three times while it got interrupted by quest cutscenes and started over, and having it as background music for such unrelated dialogue felt wrong.
The dungeon quest seemed to be setting the stage for beast tribe quests or something like it, which would only make the unsuitability of the song worse if we're going to be there doing mundane quirky tasks for hours.
Basically, I think, the element of lyrics changes it from something that can just play in the background infinitely to something that deserves to be listened to from start to finish.
I love the music, if they where to give the option for those who do not but I would be sad to see it go.
Honestly I didn't like the complete version of the BGM at all. IDK what it is but I find nearly all the vocals in this game really cringy and tacky. I really liked the initial version you get when you enter though, it suited the zone perfectly. The half-complete version was also pretty good, not too overdone like the final version. I'd love for a toggle as has been stated already, but currently I'm just forced to mute whenever in the zone which is a shame.
i agree that they should revert to the first version of the song once you complete the msq.
Like many people i turn off the music when i know i need to stay in that zone for a long period of time, i dont want to get tired of the song.
Or they should add a night and day cycle in that zone too and have the song play half the time and the version 1 play the other half.
They need to do something! the song is super good but plenty of people just turn off the music... by the time they release the soundtrack people will not want to hear that song anymore :/
Voices used in backdrop music is a big taboo in gaming. It's fine to set the mood but not when you're there for an extended period of time. Maybe it's a bug and they meant to use the instrumental version instead?
@OP
Agree, we need an option to switch to the original music for the zone.
For me is like hearing the same song in the radio over and over, it gets extremely boring eventually.
If it bothers you that much just use your mount music. Honestly, I hope they dont change it back to the original theme. The OST is fantastic upon finishing the MSQ and the way it starts off with no lyrics was amazing.
So no dont change it back... please dont.
I agree, I LOVE the song. But I think it should revert to the 2nd version of the song that is still upbeat but without vocals.
I don't think I could handle a long time in the zone with the music as it was when we first arrived. I found it depressing. I go to that zone now just to listen to the final version. I hope they don't listen to the complaints and just remove it.
In waht situation are you in that zone for hours when you are not on a mount or not doing fighting in some fates? Just a thing I wonder about? I personally barely ever hear zone music anywhere cause I have my mount music on, and besides that I am fighting something, and when you fight the music changes, this is in all zones.
I want the original theme back for Ultima Thule. If they want to keep the lyrical version around where the Elpis flower island is, that’s fine. But the more ambient, muted theme suits the world zone a lot better. You know, it being a collection of dead/dying worlds and all.
I agree. I love it, but since I've started gathering in the final zone I'm really missing the muffled version. Don't get me wrong, it's a fantastic song, but at this rate it won't be more than a few more weeks before I'm sick to death of it. I mute bgm everytime I go there, and it's not really a big deal, but if they could add a toggle or something in the sound menu, that'd be great.
I was wondering for something like this, Don't get me wrong in last phase of the music is fine but after 6 loops it like "ughhhhh.. /bgm" The 1st phase however I love that ominous feel and really sets the tone for the zone, and has them feels esp that faded organish sound at the end XD.
I agree with you OP. I liked the music when I was going through the MSQ but I was a bit surprised that its the zone music in general. In that zone I even switched the mount music back on.
Agree wholeheartedly. Hearing the song during the MSQ had a big impact on me, but hearing it on loop when I'm gathering or grinding FATEs is starting to desensitise me to it. I love the song, but I think an instrumental version would be much better as zone music!
As someone who has the Chi mount and spend days waiting for it I can agree that the song can get very repetitive and you get sick of it. They won't remove it and I can't see them making a special unique music swap toggle just for that zone alone.
I love the final zone song. I suppose I could see where people would get sick of it, but the only time I’m in that zone is to finish leveling to 90 so I’m fine with how it is because once in a while I will come back and enjoy the song. No time for mourning~
It has come to my attention that if you activate NG+ for something like a Shadowbringers chapter, any time you're in the last zone you'll get the pre-MSQ completion music. Not quite a toggle, but a workaround for now! :D
I feel the same. I dont even want to return to do my side quests. I'll only visit to do world fate. The music was fine in the moment and will he good for orchestrion, but not as a zone music you have to listen to for hours while grinding.
Changing it back would make no sense. It would ruin the sense of accomplishment we overcame. We overcame despair for crying out loud. The Scions willingly gave their lives for us and even though they came back the song is still there as a symbol of it. Changing it back to the muddled version would make no sense. The music changes overtime due to the importance of the MSQ. At best if you want the other music to come back you can listen to a orchestrion roll.
I hated it immediately and at this point habitually mute BGM in the zone. I hate that they added vocals to BGM in ShB and took it to a ridiculous level in EW. It's such an obviously bad idea to add vocals to BGM we will spend HOURS listening to on loop. Idiotic.
Been considering looking into dat swapping to something inoffensive.
After more than a week, I can honestly say I really like the song and don’t want it changed. I have no issue listening to it. Hell, I even catch myself singing it after a while, it so good, so I’m more about keeping it as is. If you want a different song, mute it and play your own song or playlist. That’s the easiest solution to this problem.
I wouldn't mind if it were replaced if only because continued repetition decreases its emotional impact and those of the memories it evokes when I do hear it.
It is good in small doses.
When i'm running around gathering rocks it's a bit...over dramatic.
Ok maybe this is a silly question but what "original" theme do people want this changed back to? I'm assuming the version right before it swaps to the lyrics version toward the end of the msq? Because unless I'm totally misremembering there were three different versions of the song playing through the MSQ, and the ORIGINAL original one was so unbearably creepy and unsettling that I almost had to mute THAT lol
Yes, the game has 3 different song files for that zone. The first muffled one, then the one playing as we march up with the twins, and finally the one we complain about.
I really like the muffled one, but the 2nd, which is basically the lyricless version of the current song, would probably work better to still know it's past MSQ. I also don't mind if the center island, where the twins leave us, + the flower-island still has the lyrics-version to make it stand out, like it is the case with Zenith in the Churning Mists (that dragon cathedral in the west where we speak to Hraesvelgr).
If you start a Shadowbringers NG+ the music will be reset back to the original track.
Obviously not ideal in general, but you can still fly, FATE grind, gather, etc.
