I got in just fine with the normal launcher, literally took me 20 mins. Launch will have issues, they literally warned us all.

I logged in just fine, queued for about 20 mins then in. This was an hour after launch. I would say given all of the circumstances this was a superb launch from my perspective.
what server you on?
I've been queueing on Cerberus for over an hour (well, actually, 3 and a half if you count getting in and then booted) and still 3295 in queue.
I can play games like Genshin with no issues at all when new content comes out. Never ever had to queue.
I don't mind long queues, but getting booted out of the queue three times in a row after about 15 min, then sitting in the queue for two hours only to get booted again right as I was about to get in sucks. Great that some people had smooth sailing, but clearly there is a stability issue because some of us are simply not able to get in, no matter how long we wait.
You guys are feeding a troll
The game crashed on me once I set a foot in old Sharlayan...
Been in the queue for hours ever since....
Everyone I know is in and playing but not me... kicked out of the fun...
My server took a complete and total crap and I'm not complaining. In fact, I kinda gave up for a while.
My third disconnect (Look at queue behind):

Of course i went back to over 2,5k
Or you could have waited a measly 2 or 3 hours and get in just fine.
What happens when you get a sudden surge of 1000's people try to connect to a server at once? You get problems. They have plenty of ways of mitigating those problems and they are in place. There is only so much they can do because it is a huge influx of traffic to deal with.
And to be honest, it has so far gone better than I expected, we've had worse in previous years and they've put in a lot to help alleviate the problems, but I was expecting the sudden influx or new players we have to cause bigger problems this time around, especially as the current capacitor shortage and global pandemic has made getting new servers a problem, which are 2 things beyond their control.
Obviously can't speak for other data centers, but it's been wonderful on Crystal. Queue is down to 30ish people and no disconnects.
Remember game got delayed 2 weeks and this was the result.
But it's ok cause Yoshi P cried.
I was at 2491, next time I looked at it I was at 2793 - without any error. If there is logic, I don't have the capacity to understand :'D
I got in with a queue of only 13 this morning, no third party launcher. Just did the same trick you always do. Check server status button, then back to main launcher page, repeat until Play works. Call it cheating if you want, I call knowing how to force my launcher to refresh.
hmmm.. 7:25 Pacific.. queue of 35.. seems to be fine here...
if you throw thousands of people hammering at the login server like maniacs... things are bound to get congested and break... if only they announced this, if only people thought about things like "gee, I am not the only person trying to be first in..."
so far yes, amazing Launch SE. servers up on time, and I have experienced no issues of note
(yes, I was one of the people at start up at 1 am as well, but after a few attempts... I simply...went back to bed)
i can't believe people defending this launch, i waited 3 hours for 9k+ people on queue and it moved only to 5.6k in "2 hours" then i got an error and had to restart the launcher and then i got a 7k queue and then i got same error again after 30 min and now i have 5k queue again...
this game is really expensive on my country because euro is like 15x more valuable than our currency and i already lost 2 days game time, yeah you don't have to pity me or understand my situation but at least i should be able to write here how this launch left a bad taste in my mouth, i'm playing this game since 4 months ago and i never criticize SE once
i tried to login 3pm(1pm on EU) and its 6.30 pm now and still couldn't get into the game because i'm not using a 3rd party launcher! and tomorrow is weekend day so rip my gametime until monday probably
huge queues already cant wait for prime time or weekend lol
the thing is though . This has happened before in the previous expansions. Nobody is defending it. think about it for a sec. How many new players we have now? How many people took time off to play this? how many people stayed up waiting to play it. Everybody want to play it on launch day so they do not want to miss out with there friends
I understand that you just started playing and are upset about it, sadly to say this wil be a on going issue for the future.
The third party launcher doesn't really help. ( from what i seen anyways)
Trust me when i said this. I got kicked, requeued and the queue was for 4k+. Couldn't wait and went to work. My friends that are off logged in and waited in the queue with 800 other people trying to play. they got in
and the only real thing i think of is not playing for a few days until it dies down, but we all know that is not going to happen
I didnt want to flood the post but i guess it is needed that i write again..
Got kicked after another 30 mins.. the problem is not the wait.. the problem is the dcs and losing the queue..
..waiting for ppl to blame on my provider, pc etcs..
I'm in the UK on the Shiva server I have been trying to log in since 12pm its now 16:55pm I keep getting 2002 error and I am playing on my PS5. I get to about 1000 and something in the queue and then the error appears and I have to queue all over again. I have been catching up of The Great North as I wait.
Que times, long ones, were bound to happen and with current shortage due to corona I understand it. Lobby errors while in que and the like not so much. If you notice the error and que right away great, if not you are back to the bottom of the que. So guessing and do other stuff to check later is pure gambling.
I'm in game right now but the other person I planned to play with today got that error and now she sit at 8k que.
That's 9,000+ people the login system has to process, 9000+ people waiting on a game server full of people for people to log out. When servers are full, it's first-come-first-served in the queue. I'm honestly surprised 3.4K people logged out over the course of 2 hours.
Close to 10K people hitting a login server is insane load so there are going to be issues. The real test is how stable the game servers are, and so far they're holding up beautifully. This is what's called a successful launch.
Using the custom launcer or the official has no difference in who gets in or not, some are lucky some are not.
my friends couldnt use the custom launcer who used it, and i logged in just fine from the normal one, its all luck.
Also theres no streamer priority whatsoever either.
Also Yoshi P said yday on stream that server issues would happen and apologised in advance.
All in all, ure Delusional or simply dont look for information.
Just because your server is holding up ''beautifully'' doesn't mean everyone is having a great time. https://forum.square-enix.com/ffxiv/forums/625-Status
I've seen worse launches in MMOs and considering the world state on getting additional server space. I say SE did a good job with the tools they have.
I've had no issues logging on.
Maybe your connection is just that bad?
Can't connect to my DC and seems many people from Zodiark ( My Home world ) claim the same.
Goodjob SE.
I was in queue for 3 hours, kicked out 3 times and now can't even get back to queue due to 2002 error :)

The Problem in one screen. :)
Got booted by 2002 errors several times before even getting into the character selection screen.
Then when i finally get into the que it's 4000 long.
One hour later, it's a 3200.
2002 error, booted.
Try to get back into the que over and over.
NOPE, 2002 errors.
Finally get back into the que.
My place in the que has been lost. It is now 4200 long. Even more than the first time.
