I've noticed a change in attitude as EW grows closer

Lots of things can affect the community's expected attitude.

Overall attitude for the day could've been bad, drama (ingame/irl), endwalker last minute or rushed prep, player's expectations of a given duty being much lower than expected that it starts tilting them, and people just want to get this content over with (mostly happens to people who run the same content over and over and then you'd have new people or people who haven't really done this duty other than once for the story).

But it's most likely just Endwalker is about to drop and people are trying to rush, and if they're far behind what they wanted to accomplish, they're goanna start tilting a lot more.

FFXIV has its good points, but it's not always sunshine and rainbows. Just remember that people are people. We all have different skill levels, sometimes have an off day, and sometimes end up shitting on others indirectly as a result to vent some frustration. Most people keep their behavior in check, but sometimes it does leak out. Plus, Communication is something people can easily neglect or misinterpret when things aren't going their way. The best thing to do is not let the bad things bother you too much, and return negative behavior with a positive mindset instead.

Or just block them, whatever works for you. I have an FC that actively talks while I'm doing a duty, so most of the bad attitude just passes over my head since any toxicity I encounter on duties isn't enough to phase me or warrant more brainpower on it.

Gone are the days of server reputation.

It's not the WOW refugees. There's plenty of unfriendly players year round and they're all back for Endwalker, so you're bound to run into them. As for silence in Limsa, I dunno. I don't talk to random strangers very often. "I like your glamour" is about all I'll say, and rarely does that ever get a reply. The silence from a stranger doesn't seem odd to me at all tbh. They might not even be at their keyboard.

This is my first MMO, I did play WoW for a month or so but I can't count that as I barely made it half way to max level before leaving.

This one I came into full of excitement, I couldn't believe the world I had stepped into. Since then I have become a little bit more reserved in my approach to other players. In the few months I have been here, I've seen drama, been through the struggles of trying to make friends, or even finding a FC that actually talks to and includes everyone.

I'm still working my way through the final parts of the story, and I am loving it. Once I get into Endwalker, and finish it though, I probably wont have a reason to stay. It made me question myself a lot since I'd always heard amazing things about the people here, but I've come to understand maybe what I'd read was either lies, or just people looking through rose tinted glasses while huddled in their own little friend circle.

That's Bozja, though. It's its own different animal. For regular content PUGs, I haven't noticed more facetanking mechs or laying on the floor than usual, but I'm a healer main so that's kind of my life anyway. I see the same ratio of chatty groups versus not chatty groups and even if there's a mistake in a run, it's just the one random jerk now and then who makes a big deal of it. Most people are still pretty chill. And when you mention you're grinding X or Y, that can start off conversation as those who are also doing it commiserate together.

I didn't really want this to be a WoW bad FFXIV good thread, I was just wondering about the noticeable change in tone from the community. It's kind of ignorant to think that WoW doesn't have a lot of the problems that it has, but it's also ignorant to think that FFXIV is flawless.

If you look up FFXIV character cards, some results should show up. I don't know which one they used but there will be some different formats to choose from.

I knew it was my fault, apologized, and got a very passive-aggressive response. We pulled again and I feel like I did a real good job. When we killed it I thanked the RDM for their help, and was met with another passive-aggressive response before everyone dipped out of the lobby.

Now, I'm not saying people aren't allowed to be passive-aggressive; I'll admit that I was pretty toxic too during my time in WoW (though I swore to leave it behind when I came here). But such a drastic change in attitude in both open world, low, and high level duties? What could have happened?

Did hardcore WoW players saturate the game? Did all the friendlier people leave to wait for EW? Am I just going insane and nothing has actually changed?

You will get used to it. This community basically endlessly fires off passive-aggressive comments. Since anything aggressive just gets you permabanned. The longer you are around the more this is gonna come to the forefront because the visage of a super kind and welcoming community is just that. The second you step out of line, have the wrong opinion, or lose your sprout icon... they pull out the daggers like that :P

I do my best to be nice to anyone that asks a question or needs help but I’m usually silent when I solo queue in to various dungeons and other instances unless it’s someone’s first time. If no one is new I just assume they want to get this dungeon they’ve run countless times over and done with.

So as soon as the barrier drops I start pulling and we can be over and done with it as soon as possible.

Why don't some of us players, WoW refugees and otherwise, who are disapointed with the lack of end game socilization and helpfulness (once the sprout icon is gone) get together and form our own FC?

typically whenever a game's dlc/expansion etc is nearly here people are overwhelmed emotionally with joy, anger sorrow etc

Whenever a game delays (not saying its bad)

it makes those overwhelm emotions amplify, so ya some people will have a momentary (few days) of different personality's and honestly we should forgive that and just go about our day because its understandable.

Since honestly most the time you don't even notice when your in that overwhelmed state

You don't see the problem there?

The Community is just like a person.
when you get to know them for the first time, they look nice but later you'll see what they really are.
It's not that bad to be honest since some person, some community is much worse.

If anything, the content drought and delayed early access have made people relentless more than usual.
