I've noticed a change in attitude as EW grows closer

I joined at the beginning of the 'WoW Exodus' curve a while before all those allegations came out, and my first impressions of FFXIV were amazing; particularly from the community.

Everyone in FFXIV seemed extremely social, extremely helpful, and extremely patient, all things which I took full advantage of from level 1 all the way up to where I am now. I made a few cool friends and joined a FC, and had tons of fun hamming it up with people in the Diadem while I saved up for an apartment. I was having a blast!

But as time went on, it felt like all those chummy, friendly people stopped being chummy and friendly, with the pervasive attitude I felt shifting from social to... silent. No responses when I wave hi in dungeons, nobody wanting to talk in the Diadem, even Limsa is silent except for RP ads and RMTers.

And as time continued to pass even further, the silence turned into uncomfortable judgement. A situation that is recent in my mind is an Eden's Promise: Litany run that I was directly responsible for wiping once. I was being bothered by someone IRL and couldn't put my full attention into healing, and died a few times before the other healer couldn't take the stress anymore and died as well. I knew it was my fault, apologized, and got a very passive-aggressive response. We pulled again and I feel like I did a real good job. When we killed it I thanked the RDM for their help, and was met with another passive-aggressive response before everyone dipped out of the lobby.

Now, I'm not saying people aren't allowed to be passive-aggressive; I'll admit that I was pretty toxic too during my time in WoW (though I swore to leave it behind when I came here). But such a drastic change in attitude in both open world, low, and high level duties? What could have happened?

Did hardcore WoW players saturate the game? Did all the friendlier people leave to wait for EW? Am I just going insane and nothing has actually changed?

People are nice only to sprouts to get their : IM A NICE PERSON, REVERE ME ego stroked, the moment that icon drops off, you are on the dont care, did not ask list, sure, there are genuinely nice people around, but not as much as the propaganda on other platforms lets you believe and since you cannot directly be mean to anyone since you will get banned in no time, people resort to this passive-aggressive mentality.

Sorry you had to deal with some folks like that. It’s unfortunate, but it does happen. Not largely frequent on my end, but it has happened yeah.

I think what is driving it, is folks pushing hard to finish and wrap things up before Endwalker hits. Things like Bozja, and the relic weapons, where it is a large grind and the push to get it done can be rough, can be taxing on one’s patience.

I’d say what you likely ran into and are experiencing is fatigue hitting people hard as they push themselves, and their patience wearing thin when time is growing short for their goals to be accomplished.

It can be irksome to deal with, yeah. Disheartening? Definitely.

But the best you can do is shrug it off and move on, despite how much it can bother you. It’s not fun trust me, but I try to push onward and reinforce the good I experience in my mind vs the negative.

I'm parked in the Uldah inn until the game goes live. If I do anything Wednesday it's going to be desynth farming on old primals. Demimog Demimateria is always in demand because Mog weapons and cute and everyone likes those. I think all the friendly players are just waiting for EW to drop. RPR, SGE, SMN have a lot of hype behind them.

Game will light up like a Xmas tree on Friday-Saturday.

All those friendly players will probably be back at that time.

I wouldn't take it personally if you royally fuck up. If I do it my reaction is this: https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=WO43ocCBUCE

As screwups in later content is generally a one shot mechanic.

A warning for the new trials/raids is try to avoid any groups that are very much in a "Know the fight after 6 hours of release or get kicked" mindset. Most aren't but they do exist.

Personally I'll be labbing the new jobs and doing leveling OUTSIDE of instanced content for a few days. And if I do queue for content it'll be inhouse with my FC for smooth queues.

The only person in recent memory I was overtly not nice to was a dude calling people extremely foul things in Frontline because he felt like we were losing. (We were at the time), I told him to shut and he was a waste of oxygen pretty much, and he did. We won the match, I had a few kills not the most, and they were like lowest everything I could see on the leaderboard at the end.

People are not necessarily talkative all of the time, you know. If they are crafting, chance they alt-tab and just tab-in to press a new macro sequence and tab-out again, not bother seeing the chat box. In dungeon, some just want to finish it fast and don't bother talking, unless you have an sufficiently-interesting topic to trigger their talkativeness.
