Do you tease lalafells?

I mean if you like to get banned cause you like harassing other players sure. Below you find part of the prohibited behaviour in XIV straight from the support center. So sure, go and tease other players but if they get you banned for it please don't cry. And that's no matter if you are a tall race or a lalafell or whatever.

Offensive expression
"Offensive expression" means an expression in general that inflicts emotional distress by being offensive to another person. Offensive expression may include:

・Aggressive expressions such as violent language/slander/insult/threat.
・Expressions that provoke or belittle another person, such as excessive criticism, negation/ridicule
・Expressions that significantly lack consideration for another person
・Expressions that unilaterally reject another person's opinion
・Expressions that any reasonable person would find offensive
・Expressions that compel a playing style
・Expressions that attempt to unilaterally exclude someone from the game or content/community, etc.
(Except when in accordance with rules set by an administrator such as a Free Company Master)

・Other expressions that are offensive to another person

But no matter what i think about this stuff SE DOESN'T CARE ABOUT MY OPINION ON THIS MATTER AND YOU STILL CAN AND PROBABLY WILL GET BANNED. That's not something i want for you guys but it's a risk you guys have to live with no matter if i have a sense of humor or not. When I played lala I thought the unfunny potato jokes were ok, what really got me was people making pedo jokes (saying I was a pedo) at me because I played lala.

I was a Lalafell at first, but when strangers paw you and petting you like a dog every day, the fun stops. So I changed the race.

Not unless they're in your friend group. Don't do this stuff with randoms. It makes you look like a jerk.

I don't know if headpat constitutes teasing but yeah.... I almost always headpat any lala I see. Couldn't resist the urge. In fact one of my pre-battle/pre-movement ritual before any dungeons or trials is to look if there is any lala in the party and if there is, proceed to headpat them, hahaha.

Jokes on you i know multiple players who got banned for many of these reasons and especially some of the other rules that are described in there. Seems like you have no clue at all since "I play since date XYZ and never seen XYZ" is real great evidence.

Sorry but your little anecdotal evidence isn't doing anything, especially if people get banned. It's fair to warn them but sure, i guess it's better not to tell people cause of...reasons i guess. Heck unsocial NA entitlement on another level.

Edit: I mean in what world is "I commited crimes but i didn't got catched yet so i encourage others to do the same" a good thing. Maybe grow up, it's not that bad to give a shoot about others, try it out. Maybe you get some friends then and don't have to post such things on the forums.

Might be rude but it's the truth. Only cause you can speak for yourself doesn't mean your experience can be applied to literally every other players experience. Just cause you did stuff since the dawn of time and didn't got catched doesn't mean others aren't in the risk of getting their accounts suspended for it. But you clearly don't care about others as it seems.

I don't try to enforce these rules, i just tell people that they exist. Dunno what problem you have with that. Do you feel guilty or something?

I mean, to be fair, you're basically being the spoilsport in a thread of mostly jokes, and then reinforced that by making another thread specifically about the rules. I wouldn't exactly call that rude, but I'm hoping your teacher gave you the gold star you were after, since you could point out the rules all the bad kids are breaking.

I was told by my lalafell friend to stop behaving like that to strangers I pug with. I can joke with friends, but saying this to random people..? Dunno, it's kind of rude imo. As much as it can be said with no ill intent, if you're hearing these jokes every day every second time you enter a dungeon or just stay next to marketboard minding your own business - it will become boring and annoying very fast, and I can understand why some players stop liking it or don't like it in the first place. Making jokes is good and all, but there's time and place for them.

Imagine hearing some harmless stereotype about your ethnicity every single day. You can find it cute at first, maybe will laugh with those who joke, but after 100500th time you probably will be just... smiling politely while thinking to yourself "yeah you're 10th to say this today, how very original of you. Next one please". It's not really the perfect example, but it's the one that goes the closest (said by somebody who's very tired of getting typical "vodka" or "su** bl***" comment the second people hear I'm from Russia. Is it harmless? Sure, it is, there's no ill intent in these messages. But is it funny? Stopped being so good 15 years ago and became a facepalm material since then).

You pretty much nailed it. Depending on what they are saying/doing, most of the time it's harmless. But I agree the jokes are so old at this point its like the co-worker who never lets the joke die and you just do the polite "chuckle" while inside you're cringing.

I am honestly surprised some people are annoyed by it. Lala's have always been seen as the cute and funny race and have been the subject of silly humor ever since the existence of FF14.

I am currently a Lalafell and think it's hilarious whenever someone gives me a headpat or does some other silly thing around me. Hell, I encourage it by doing silly things myself, being a Lala just brings out the humor in you.

Am I offended by any of it, hell no. My character is NOT me. It is a pile of pixels on the screen that I happen to control. Who I am in the game is not who I am in real life, so tease away, I will just keep dousing people with my insufferable cuteness! LOL

i‘m sorry but people that take offense that people make jokes of a non existing fantasy race in a fantasy world need to take a break and stop playing the game for a certain time. it’s not healthy when obviously meme jokes affect you emotionally to such a degree.
identifying with a game is good but there are boundaries you should set for yourself to keep a healthy mind.

The need to tell these jokes and finding joy in harassing other players, be it towards whatever race or for whatever reason, is also not a sign of a healthy mind. If you tell the same player again and again (and told by multiple people) that they are silly and stupid, day after day. Sure someone might break under that.

But i actually agree here, you should take not everything so seriously. But every human being is different and i don't push the joy of others into the abyss to make some stupid jokes about them.

We focus more on education over here and being decent human beings than giving people worthless awards to boost their ego. Maybe that's where the problem lies. People, ESPECIALLY on NA are way to full of themself. No wonder NA were the birthplace of karens and chads.

Light teasing sure without being a borderline creep or racist kinda person also just do not hug or pet me while I am crafting.

Aside those stuff, people have been pretty ok on the whole "teasing", you know the typical baked potatoes joke with Ancient Flares, eat your potatoes with WoD etc. Every instance or place there has to be a fun lalafell joke but I do not mind those, they are fun

Dunno if you read what i wrote but yes. I don't see this problem on JP and neither on EU as much as it is a problem on NA for many players. Weird, right?

And as i said before, i am not offended by any of this. But some people are. And i think, especially NA, do show really how great and social they are by pushing always heavensward with their need to make fun of others.

And no matter how much you say the words "fantasy race" it doesn't make it less toxic. xD But speaks for you that you defend toxicity. It's a joke if both parties can laugh about it. Which isn't the case clearly in many cases.

It does make sense tho. People define themself over the choices they make. If you hear the whole day long that the choices you made are wrong and you are stupid and silly and less worth for it than others it damages peoples honor and thus feelings. Sure we might now say "Well low selfesteem then" but this is a cultural problem, again. Especially with western/NA players. Ridicule and even hate towards small races is a almost inherently western thing, which is crazy if you think about. Same as the need to make fun on others costs.

But that is exactly why NA is so full of trolls etc, cause they use "free speech" as a cover for toxicity. Which might be good or bad i don't judge about that here tbh. EU then is a bit different, some speech over here in many countries is prohibited by law, so people are a bit nicer to each other. And JP basically has no shout chat trolls and no unrest we see in NA or EU at all.

So yeah, i don't say that any of these ways is better than the other one. I also have a fairly dark humor and heck i offended more people in my life than most other players i bet. But this game is from a japanese company. So at the end of the day we all live or "die" by their rules and standards. Only cause NA has a free speech over anything thing going on doesn't mean this is a thing that is or will be tolerated in a community that inhabits players from so many different cultures.

I mean sure but it doesn't change the outcome. It doesn't change the fact that players who might joke like this towards the wrong players might find themself being punished for it.

And it's not my definition that this is toxic, it's as i said before prohibited behaviour by SE own house rules. It all boils down to this fact, joke as much as you want but someday someone might hit that button to report you. As silly or petty as i think that might be, it won't save them from the punishment.

Dunno why people act like i want to ruin their fun like i invented the rules or something. Or like i run around and massreport players. I don't want anyone to get suspended for these reasons actually but it's their risk. Or as gosetsu said, you cast the die gambling was never my vice.

It's everyones own choice at the end of the day to gamble with their own accounts.

No offense arguing from a position that it might result in account punishment is moot really. The reality is the ToS is written vaguely enough that nearly any interaction can be seen as a violation or not just depends on the interpretation of the GM.

The issue at hand I have is with players that view such actions as harrassment. Which I have ran into some and I am just baffled by how people can view comments made in this context as anything worse then cringe moments.

I don't tease lalafells and I don't like it when people do either. Especially on the EU servers people seem to really hate lalafells, when me and my partner went lala on there my partner got immediately harassed and sent tells about how they were reported by these just for my partner playing a lalafell. My partner also got called a pedophile by like a whole instance of Zadnor and reported by some just for the crime of having Kissu as a first name on a lalafell. The lalafell hate is real and some people take it to insane levels.

And the popoto jokes got old 5 minutes after they were first come up with in ARR, seriously. The XIV community has always had a problem of driving every single joke and meme into the absolute ground, just parroting the same old tired jokes out of what seems more like obligation than anything else.

If it is good natured obviously it’s okay, I mean I joke with my friends who play Miqo’te all the time because they’re playing cats. They in turn joke about be not having eyebrows. It’s all in good fun though.

Let us be real we do not have knees which makes us lesser than.

Friends? Sure.
Strangers? No. Plenty of times there is simply no telling how a complete stranger is going to react to something you say, regardless of intent or tone. Some people don't mind it. Some people do. The latter, I really can't judge too harshly. If you don't know the person, you straight up just don't know what they might be going through.

Used to be my eyes would roll out of their orbits with every "lmaooo lalafell = food" joke, but after 8 years of the same thing, it just sort of... Doesn't register anymore? I believe this is what behaviorists would call... Response extinction? Lol. That said, not everyone has the same threshold, or have been exposed to these jokes for the same period of time, so the response is typically annoyance.
