I'm a long-time WoW player (used to be a legit hardcore, world-ranking raider), and even I get caught off-guard with a lot of terms in this game. I've never heard of a "tank-buster", we just called them tank-swap mechanics.

I gotta say; "Asmongold" has always been a big personality in WoW, and not one I ever really followed or particularly enjoyed. But I think either he's mellowed-out, or maybe he's just being "himself" a little more than "his streaming persona", but I'm honestly really digging seeing him enjoy the game. I really didn't think he would, just knowing how he typically plays WoW, but it's cool that he seems to be approaching it with an open mind, and actually experiencing the story.

I'm simply calling out your claim that no one does it anywhere else except to poor picked on Asmongold. People have been expressing their opinons all over the forums on every topic ever. Or since you decided to go with the personal attack:

No, I questioned the logic of the position you were maintaining and found it rather intriguing that you would seem to find it ok to essentially perpetuate the cycle of asserting yourself into a thread essentially telling people what they should or shouldn't care about.

Not everyday, sometimes the Viera and Hrothgar threads are pretty active. Sometimes we get a good troll thread, just overall more interesting threads then Asmongold doing something many of us have done years ago like its breaking news.

You know, sometimes when I post a thread I'm not really trying to bait anyone. I'm out of ideas at the moment. Just thought Asmon clearing Garuda EX at min ilvl was cool. You rarely see people do old content at their intended scaling these days.

But wow, the amount of hate this got is just astounding. I wasn't even expecting this genuinely.

The "Asmongold this, Asmongold that" thread my friend made was a joke - an extreme caricature of this guy he saw on Twitter complaining, but nevertheless a hyperbolized caricature - and I hoped people have a good laugh out of that but it's no longer funny when people actually behave like that extreme caricature.

It's just sad but what can I say - great community btw

Same goes for the LGBT threads. It always baits out the bigots. Kudos to Ativan for making me see them.

I'm just trying to figure out how someone like that streamer attracts so much attention? I tried years ago in WoW to see his content and couldn't even 2 minutes in... and same now.

I suppose people have really low standards for the sub-celebrity culture.

My curious question is though, for as interesting as it is, would it really ever take off on a wider scale with the general playerbase. It's a lot easier to overlook mistakes that wider-known figures might make than the general community.

FF14 players are mostly vicariously reliving their noob days through Asmongold, and WoW players see how challenging even an Extreme fight could be. Even if no one actually does min ilvl extremes from now on (and I doubt it'll become a thing) this is already a good moment for FF14.

Oh definitely, it's going to be a joy to see him do Coils honestly, was my first taste, albeit brief, but many memories from the end of ARR for me. Personally.

Seeing him do this though, and especially when it comes to Coils will only make me want SE to do Unreal raids alongside Extremes.. What'd your thoughts on that be.

I think that at this point not many can really dispute that Asmongold streaming/playing FF14, and other WoW personalities, has positively influenced the population of the game, as can be seen in numerous news stories about FF14 selling out, server congestion, etc. Since we all, hopefully, love this game we play, shouldn't we see any press that brings new players into the game and lets them enjoy it (stay or not, but hopefully stay) as a good thing? I've played FF14 ARR since beta but also played WoW through until Shadowlands (when I just had to stop). Asmongold has always had his on-feed/stream personality that can be a little toxic at times, but that is part of the show. Like any other show put on for views, his actions and personality during those is just a persona - a performance. So yes, his streaming personality while on his main channel isn't as welcoming at times as it should/could be, if you look at his ZackRawrr Youtube channel and see his ideas outside of WoW streaming and his 'persona', he isn't that bad of a guy and actually fairly articulate and kinda chill. Just everyone saying how terrible he is should think of his main channel as a 'show', and maybe recognize the good he and other WoW personalities have done to improve the FF14 population and bring it to more and more people ^^

What is the point of these threads? I'm glad that Asmondgold is enjoying xiv, and in turn I'm glad that new people are starting to play (becides the weird world visit issue yesterday). It just feels weird that one person controls people's interest.

It's nice to see him learning so quickly. He even stated that tank should rotate their defensive abilities. Something which many still don't know after years of playing.

Harrasment is not a comedy sketch. I've reported every single instance I've seen of toxic players harrassing Asmongold and other WoW refugees. And since I've haven't seen those people relapse, I assume that either their accounts got terminated or at least they received a warning from the efficient and professional GM team.

Yeah he uses coarse language, and calls those who participate in immature behaviour coarse names, but it’s not toxicity, not really. He doesn’t name anyone specifically, just “stream snipers” etc.
Bad language in of itself is not toxicity, in my opinion say true toxicity lies in the intent of ones actions/words, not in the words themselves.
He just called out behaviour that is detrimental to people’s gaming experience.

True toxicity is more directed at particular a particular person or group, going out if they’re way to make a gaming experience detrimental for that person, for no other reason than because they don’t like them. Especially when that person as personally never done anything to them.

Going on multiple threads, to complain about one particular person when they are mentioned, calling them particular names, that seems like there’s more hateful intent behind it, and thus more toxicity.

Just... it's literally just a streamer? I don't care who you watch, but when it's talked about ad nauseum it gets really old really fast. It's like how on slow news dates they talk about 'omg this famous person didn't wear makeup!'

Honest question here because I am genuinely curious, would you report for non WoW players/Asmongold? Or are you literally here just to be a knight in shining armor for them only? I should preface and say that I don't care who plays the game, I play the game for me and me only. Putting so much energy into something that is very trivial (just like many threads on this forums) is kinda sad and silly. But you do you.

Just ignore the threads people talking about him. Pretty simple.

Truth be told, he is not just a streamer. He is one of the biggest streamers on twitch right now. Not only is he one of the biggest, but as soon as he started streaming. FF14 sold out of keys, and is hitting a boom that some don't want to admit, but showing the power of streamers the size of asmongold.

All of this is good for the game, and developers who deserve it. I think the game we enjoy getting a mass amount of new players, and more profits for them. You can put up with people talking about asmongold right?

Thanks to Asmongold the game has hit a boom, with no new content coming for months. It really is amazing the power of streamers.
