He was right in that XIVs biggest negative is actually paying for the game. If they could simplify the process (maybe allow for payment for the game within the launcher or something of that nature) I feel like that would allow for more purchases from the free trial. As it is, getting the free trial is easy but you need to look up a tutorial in order to actually get the full game.
I’m glad he’s enjoying ARR, and it seems like he might even enjoy the post-ARR slog! -

This whole Asmongold thing has been a not so great ride, forums have been pretty disinteresting with so many obsessed with hating on him, defending it by associations, etc, of course loving him would be nice to be kept in a few threads rather than 20 but the negativity has been like this hot garbage fire. Back when the forums went into "ist" and "ism" wars on the developers for the racial split it was also like "ooof". Been some wonderful bait by our professional pot stirrers though.
Having watched the video, and a small handful of others, I can't find a reason why we shouldn't be very excited he's bringing so many eyes to FFXIV. It is good the GMs have taken some actions on what I saw recently. Makes one think of saying GCBTW lol, but then again the thing to remember is the forums, and the people being weird to him in game included, make only a fraction of the player base so.. best not to continuing the painting by association, it's just a small excited fragment - as is probably most stuff in communication in general (here and in everywhere.
Hope he continues to enjoy his time with the game, and FFXIV can benefit from this all - if FFXIV, as it is already doing on it's own merits as well, could continue to get more and more popular and achieve greater funds, and the company of course allows FFXIV those funds (important.. lol), that would be pretty neat (memory problems begone! :)). Or far more dangerously, but I think still could be potentially really exciting, a new mmo being produced calmly and unlike FFXIV 1.0 was (not rushed, still be baked in the oven to chef kiss perfection). -

Apparently even his chat has been pretty excited to see him dive into FF XIV, but I'm guessing part of that is them following their esteemed "lord and savior". :p What he likes, they will like by default. Either way, he has sparked a LOT of interest in the game over the last few days, so we can only benefit from that. Maybe it will incentivize the WoW devs to step up their game as well. What they should do is have two options:
Final Fantasy XIV (includes ARR>Stormblood)
Shadowbringers (is Shadowbringers)
Then when Endwalker is released, ShB rolls into the base game. So it's basically the reverse of what we have now, and I think would be a lot less confusing.
Complete is just combining the two, so it's even less confusing to just buy Complete for your first purchase.

There is some nuance that I don't really want to pry open since I've generally avoided discussing the topic, but I'm more people come and do what people do (and SE acts as the bumpers), and if he wants to come over then he can without any sort of foreword, gates, and contractual obligations needed to oblige, and SE will need to respond on however they believe their garden should appear like (not that I don't think individuals don't have responsibility, but that SE is the governor of FFXIV land and so they'll ultimately be the arbiter of acceptable behavior).Quote:

The point about villains being given a second chance instead of being killed off straight away subtly affecting the community as a whole was quite interesting. I don't know how much of an effect it has in reducing toxicity in the end, but interesting thought nonetheless.

Asmongold Bald (I'm going to chuckle at that name, I can't believe he chose it.) Is a decent person and a good player. I'm not always entertained by his streaming style, but I don't think of him as a bad person. The fact that he's giving FFXIV an honest shot amide the many, many people harassing him both ways about it is a testament of his temperance in the face of his chosen profession. Props to him for being able to deal with so many people and staying open minded. I couldn't do it.
The fact that he is bringing so many eyes to FFXIV may seem intimidating, but we've handled large groups joining before. This game is big enough to accompany them and good enough to convert the majority of them over to the sort of culture we have in the game where people are, buy in large, chill people who are enjoying their time here. It's the reason why this game is so fervently defended and loved - there's something here for nearly everyone. I hope Asmond and the people encouraged by his streaming have a good time and find their home here in FFXIV.
I'll be holding them all to the same standard I always do. Be kind - do what you can to play well and comfortably - enjoy the game as best you can and try to encourage the same for others. It's really that simple. -

The bad first impression is starting to add up surrounding account creation - mostly around the logistics. If people care about getting new players into the game they have got to tell them how to make new characters when every server seems to be locked.
