FFXIV isn't designed around end game, unlike many of the other MMORPGs (especially WoW). The RPG part also gets more attention here. The end game is still there to enjoy but it's not a focus by design.
That's going to be a big adjustment for anyone used to the "rush to end game" leveling meta.
WoW is going to introduce a patch where they'll basically have to redo some of their best gear from scratch. Imagine having to redo a relic from the start.
At this point I'm pretty sure Blizzard is telling their players to "go away".*
+The recent campain that made more streamers plays the game.
I'm glad there's a lot of new players. Great time to get into the game and get ready for Endwalker.
Best to treat sprouts with indifference. Most aren't going to make it through the barrier of entry that is ARR and all its baggage, which is mostly the subpar gameplay loop. If they do make it passed that, well maybe you'll get to the non-crap bits.
Makes sense. Right now is one of the best times for a new player; with about 5 months until EW. New players can get prepped, and this is prior to things like Lost Ark, New World, and other game releases this fall. Plus with that heavily memed (advertised) free trial, there's no real reason not to try the game.
Flower here! Im a WoW refugee since about a week ago. I’ve played a bit of FFXIV in the past but never any group stuff or raiding. My hope is to find a home here where I can finally rest my hat and call this home. It’s so great to see ppl being good to each other on a regular basis. One more thing before I go, I absolutely adore this game and the ppl in it!
The only time you can expect to see the community get a little toxic is in top end content on multiple wipes to things you should not be wiping too but because the groups are smaller and more tight nit in doing the content with the same people it is rare.
A lot of people hold back rage because if you type it in chat then you can get reported and they do take action so people might be raging but on the inside. I guess maybe they can vent to a therapist. We are happy to welcome you.
Doesn't look that great, but i tried.

As long as there are rewards, you are right, that won't stop people. But a watering can better suits a mentor (or what a mentor is supposed to be) than a crown. I'm not so naive as to think it would instantly fix what is already broken with the system. Personally, I'd like to see the entire reward system for Mentor roulette removed, but that probably won't happen.
First time I saw NN being full and could not invite more sprouts in
Fresh blood is always good for a mmorpg. Shadowbringers was fantastic and had alot of good press and lets not forget some mmorpg lack content, so newcomers come here.
Let's show them how friendly we are.
Lots of videos of WoW Veterans going to FFXIV, with Shadowlands sorta not meeting certain expectations in some respects, a lot of people decided to give FFXIV a try. Then there's the Endwalker expansion coming out soon, which got more people to try the game. Some places also rate FFXIV as the top MMO, so there are people who just want to try the game out to play a highly rated MMO. Couple that with Summer being a time for vacation, The Shadowbringers sale, and the Twitch promotion for the mount, which helps give a lot more exposure.
Can't wait for next year, when they get The Rising Event and realize how much care the devs put into the game, if they haven't done so yet. x)
You know it! Fresh blood for the blood lily!
It's sort of the opposite- a lot of WoW players have been either giving it a try or switching over entirely lately, Asmon wasn't really interested at all but basically has decided to follow.
On another note- I think the influx of new players is especially impressive right now, with the long awaited by many (including myself) TBC classic just out, and after almost a year the first Shadowlands patch coming tomorrow this is probably the biggest content drop in about a year for WoW players. I think our disappointment in what they're shoveling out speaks for itself.
I really hope that FFXIV clobbers WoW right now- because maybe, just maybe, that'll cause Blizz to clue in to how atrocious Shadowlands, BfA and now TBCC have been handled; if even their usual strategy of dropping releases at the same time as competitors isn't working they'll maybe have to do something they haven't tried since Legion- make good content.
As someone who has played WoW since Vanilla, I want it to be great- but can't pretend it is right now, and definitely can't pretend they're doing anything to course correct.
How long do I get to hold onto my sprout icon? Just started this last weekend on the Malboro server and it's been fun thus far!
And then they will get to endgame, and proceed to afk in Limsa after realizing the game is filled with catch up mechanics, invalidating the previous content. Just like WoW.
I personally welcome these changes. Haven't been particularly social myself, but I get to play with some of them and they're very nice people, so far.
Then you have the more jaded players that have been playing the game for some time. I honestly prefer playing with a sprout over someone with a Mentor crown that has to have everything go their own way. In any case, there's all kinds of people and the growth of players in a community is essential for any game I'd say.
I've played since around ShB launch. I like all the sprouts, and don't mind the lowbie dungeons from leveling roulette (apart from Toto-Rak). I try to be helpful and explain unusual mechanics (first boss in Qarn, for example).
Looking back, I wish I hadn't rushed to 80. I got to max-level content without ever having seen a lot of boss mechanics that absolutely wrecked me in level 80 content. You can catch-up on item levels and gear, but there is no catch-up mechanic for knowing the game.
Gotta water the new babies to help them grow!!
Red blood, green, blood. Doesn't matter for me, bloodletting is bloodletting!
*Grabs weed cutter*
Jokes aside, hope they have a pleasant experience.
Today there was a screenshot on reddit showing every world except 2 being temporarily congested. A screenshot showing that the complete digital edition of the FFXIV game was sold out, which I didn't even know was possible ( https://i.redd.it/yzwnr3fw3pa71.jpg ) and the new record for concurrent players on Steam has now been set at 58k this month whereas the previous record before all this started was 40 or 42k I think.
We DESPERATELY need a new data center I think O.O Also so many sprouts :)
it is probably a wave of players who were waiting for conformation from a major streamer like Asmon. fact is because 14 is getting so big, world of Warcraft is getting smaller. Players are seeing that the king of MMO's is about to be put in the number 2 spot. No one wants to hear that their MMO is dying and when people start talking about a dying game people start jumping off like a sinking ship.
Players don't want to invest into a dying game and don't want to worry about their achievements or collections being destroyed one day. Because wow is showing actual signs of mortality due to the arrogance of their dev team. The players that wow has ignored the 90% they are now taking their chances with 14 because it caters to their needs which wow caters to the top 5% and bottom 5%.
It's been a while since i've seen this many sprouts in the game and i'm loving it. There are more interactions in the city states as well as in the duties themselves. Players asking questions about things they getting confused about or running a duty for the first time.
Personally, i'm having fun again while running older Alliance raids, where it's not simply "burn the boss down and move on" or complain when we get a wipe when we try to push a phase and fail "the DPS check". Or players getting lost in Haukke Manor, because they don't know that they need to go to the cellar after the first boss and get back to the entrance after the 2nd. It's nice to see people learn content again, like we did when the content was still new.
I'm almost done with the things i want to do before Endwalker is released and i'm thinking about trying to get groups together for Minimal iLvl runs, so that they can get to experience more of a duty.
They should definitely look into adding at least one more. But yeah, at a time when the player base should be winding down their activities, it is instead winding up. It's unusual to say the least. I'm getting server queues at 11 am in the morning EST. That's almost unheard up outside of fresh expansion launches. lol
Only downside I've seen a few times is that a friend of mine sometimes can't get gold or silver rank at low level fates because for some reason there are too many players clearing them too quickly.
And they've had players constantly targetting the same quest or hunt log targets as them on purpose, which personally I never experienced myself.
/pat the sprouts!
