Players will probably have slightly better luck if their aim isn't Ishgard. Trying to access Ishgard when the servers go live is going to be next to impossible, much less actually snagging a plot. Unless they actually add enough plots to meet the demand (LOL!) which will obviously never happen under the current system. I'll probably try, but if I can't get in within 5-10 minutes I'll likely hit the ground running and head to one of the other areas and hopefully snag a dream plot, because there's no way that there's going to be any medium or large plots left in Ishgard by that point, but probably some small plots here and there.
Zodiark, I see free plots on a weekly basis.
Well you didn't specify NA was a requirement in your initial question.
User experience with empty plots for 3+ months is relevant. When SHB was released a lot of players joined the game and bought the houses. It's a matter of supply.
It sucks if you new to the game but instead of being salty on people sharing their experiences, keep trying or wait until 6.1 and grab one then.
I'm relocating my large to Ishgard. I managed to do it for both FC and personal when new wards opened up in Mist. I have my strat that been working fine every time. If it fails, it's fine.
If you dont already have a house that qualifies for relocation, switching to the older areas early wont benefit you much. The houses that open up when people transfer out have the timer on them unless this is something they chance between now and then. If you do have a house and want a better one, your plan is fine. If homeless then still shoot for your dream Ishgard plot, but if it looks like you arent getting it make sure you buy an Ish small while they are off timer(ideally get one you like, though if you want to just see this as a house to be transferred later so be it). Then with a house(well, empty lot) in hand, you can quickly swap to the old zones and see if something you want to transfer into is open.
I wish everyone good luck. Unless the new zone is amazing, ill not be leaving my current lot. In fact, if it isnt truly spectacular i wont even rush to log in that morning so i dont mess with anyone elses login/que/etc.
Specially if you have a certain theme in mind and having a medium/large where not space is the issue but item slots.
This game doesn't have the best MMO housing ever done or anything, but it has a nice aesthetic and provides a lot of different types of furnishings to play around with different themes and styles.
I like to make cozy spaces even if I'm the only person who will likely ever see them. I used to own two mediums (personal and FC) that I would periodically remodel along with apartments. I've since downsized to a single personal cottage.
It's given me something to do since I don't do some of the other content like savage or ex trials that keep others busy. So, for me, housing is an extremely important part of the game.
Update: Logged on earlier tonight was online for oh..6 hours. My co-lead and 2 other FC members logged on as well. Four of us online all at once made me smile have not had that many memebers online in a long time. <3 That aside did my routine housing check for a open plot, skimming through the Goblet. Right as I shift tabs on the ward I am looking at I see a open medium for 20 million. I had 15.2 million on me still rush too it too check it out knowing there was no way in Hell I would get the difference before it got snagged. Nobody was at it except one player just watching to see who came up. Told my Co-lead I had found it, He said go for it and showed up as well. Informed him its 20 million and I only had 15.2 million, and that I would be content waiting as I would get my chance eventually. Low and Behold he offers to spot me the additional gil
I thought I was about to die when he offered, He asked only that I keep it open door and decorate the life out of it as conditions. I agreed and said I would pay him back the 5 million soon as I got enough gil saved up again. He traded me the difference and I relocated my house. :D
House aside I don't think I could have asked for a more dedicated, loyal and friendly co-lead. He has done so much for my little struggling FC without me even asking him. Decided long ago that when I leave this game, I am leaving the FC and FC house in his hands, He has without questioned earned it. <3 Just thought to share this cause just seemed like lady luck dropped in hard and fast for me. :D I wish lady luck falls on others especially those trying to get a house.
Note: I relocated my personal house. Our FC house was relocated during the last ward addition.
Grats! Enjoy.
"Show me a server with free houses" -Gets given evidence. "No, I mean an NA server with free houses" -Gets given evidence again. "No, no, I mean an NA server with free houses that nobody is camping"
There is only one difference between a 'free' plot and a camped plot. The camped plot has probably been up longer, so it will probably be available for purchase earlier than the 'free' plot. On the NA side (Popular servers that is.) there is 0% chance of you finding a plot that can be purchased outright with nobody there. To think there is something like that makes you delusional.
Only brand new servers (Twintania I believe still qualifies here) would have 'free' plots, ready for purchase. But that's because on those servers, nobody has the gil (or the economy boon) to buy the plots, or there are so few players that the wards won't be full until a mass exodus which even then, wouldn't help as SE limits just how much gil you can take with you from server to server, to avoid breaking the server economy.
That's not clarification. That's you adding extra steps because you refuse to admit you're wrong. It's okay, though. We all have those stubborn moments! But it'd be a fair bit easier if you just dropped the facade.
Maybe you should work on your communication skills so we don't misunderstand you.
To quote Kenky:

Yeah.....
Even Twintania and Spriggan are running out of their excess supply as more new players join the game and get tunneled to those servers (usually one or the other is an active Preferred server for EU). I was looking a couple of weeks ago and they seemed to be down to about 1-2 dozen ready to buy with a handful that would have been just relinquished/demolished and likely on the timer still.
I'm not sure about the current state of JP. Last time I checked was in January/February. I know there were a lot more full worlds then than there had been about a month before the 5.1 ward additions. The data center with all their legacy worlds was packed. If I remember correctly think I only found about a dozen total houses available across all 11 worlds though the other data centers did have a fair number of available houses scattered around (a few worlds were still over 100).
Maybe with it starting to become a problem on the JP worlds, SE will decide it's time for a better system. Or maybe not. Regardless of what developers want, the executives control the purse strings and if they feel the expense to update the housing system is less than the profit such a change would generate they'll likely say No. YoshiP might have a say on that executive board now but he's not a majority by himself and still has to convince the rest.
I dont participate much in gardening or anything like that, but I kept getting houses primarily for my wife. She likes to decorate it and it gives us a hangout area while we wait for queues. Same if you want to hangout with just friends.
I've lost like 80% of my event/promotional housing items from various demolitions now, but you need a house if you ever plan to furnish them all to see.
I enjoy ffxiv PvP :)
Conventional and housing. Plot IS the trophy.
...
Oh and gardening and silently building my cottagecore RP experience, that's sexy.
...
No but for real: the lastest plot I bought was because I recently made new character on DC I did not have friends to boost/sponsor me in on any way, and I kinda wanted to go through the penniless new player experience. I put several odd objectives for myself. Like; 1 dps, tank and healer at lvl 80 (atm: healer 80 already, dps/tank in between 70-79), crafters at lvl 50 (all but CUL which is at lvl 30 atm).
Final boss of that experiment being getting plot, naturally.
...
My new game+ now is to gather more money for relocation, to little nicer plot when something like that comes across. 2.6mil saved so almost there, and I am not even at Shadowbringers content yet. Experiment: successful, I would say.
Alright alright, let's rein the discussion back in. There are plenty of threads to complain about the Housing situation, this post was designed to find the reason for the madness.
Interesting enough though, in the past it would have seemed people wanted Housing for benefits like gardening but it would appear most people on this thread want a decent size space to express themselves. The question is though, how small is too small? Is the three city inn rooms too small? What about the Crystarium Inn? Another question, is an outdoor space essential?
For me... it all depends on the idea.
Like the courtyard I made out of my FC room. That would feel real weird as an apartment or as part of a small house.
Or how I wanted to make my version of the Lala only house in Kholusia. That could only work as a small house.
Whatever the space you have is you can always come up with something. It's too bad we all can't have more unrestricted access to these canvasses though for when we have an idea we love, but can't peruse because we really need a specific canvas for it : (
I strted out with a small house - I got lucky back during Stormblood. But, with all the wonderful things they keep adding, I ran out of room. I guess my vision exceeded what a small had room for, and I ran across a medium in Shirogane, I had the gil, so I relocated. Now, I'm giving some serious thought to maybe getting a large in Ishgard (I at least will try to get a medium) just because I'm out of room again. I also have an FC room and an apartment in Mist. I just love decorating. I enjoy decorating a yard, especially when they give us so many outdoor items as rewards for various things.
It depends on ideas the player has that they want to create. Not everyone wants the same thing. I can always place a small bedroom in a Mansion but I can't place a huge ballroom in an apartment. Not everyone is trying to create a home with their housing. There are players making night clubs, taverns, boutiques, etc. Someone trying to create an Opera House might be able to pull it off in a mansion (would still be difficult) but they'd never be able to do it in a small or medium.
I would love for housing to be more of a sandbox in general, like it was in Wildstar, like it is in RIFT and ESO. than a choice of static crackerboxes like it is here. What if I had an idea where I want to stack small rooms vertically instead of placing them side by side horizontally? I could do that if my medium was just one big huge open space to work in instead of 3 pre-defined floors with pre-defined stairwells that can't be changed.
As for outdoor space, there's nothing that says outdoors can't be part of housing instance (again we see this with Wildstart, RIFT and ESO housing). Give the player an instanced grassy meadow or beachfront. Give them a choice of house-shaped items to place on that beach front or partitions/floors/roofs to create a house in the layout they want (the current crackerboxes are boring).
Well obviously you'll have limits due to size, but I'm still an advocate of upgrading Apartments to a larger, empty box with tools for players to build their how two or three story space or not to build that space. A place dedicated to where player can place outdoor items. I know Yoshi-P said they don't want to do this but I feel that is a mistake. We should focus on providing an adequate space for the average player to experience the system.
I enjoy having a place for my friends to use as a venue. We hang out, hold events, etc. Someone uses the garden, I man the airships and subs. We have themed FC rooms. It's just a nice focal point for everyone.
honestly, they need to atleast overhaul the system so that people who are unlucky enough to not get a ward house can atleast load up an instanced house to play with and use the system.
i myself own my small house for nearly a year and half, reason why i took it, was for the RP way off having a "home"
next the biggest reason, im a main cook crafter, and i spent nearly all my day crafting (some enjoy savage/ex, me its crafting xD), once in the past during stormblood era,
while i was crafting nearly everyday i would get 1 or 2 tell of ppl asking me for food discount, so i started to look for place to "hide" so i dont get bothered by these ppl, worked for a time, anyway at some point i got tired of it, and took myself a small house, having retailers, and servant bell, just 2m away from me, is incredibily helpfull !! now i can craft, in my gorgeous house everyday without being bothered ^^
yeah no, those aren't the same, I meant the whole system, that includes the garden.
Because housing is my favourite activity in any mmorpg. I am a sucker for decorating interiors and exteriors.
The fact that FFXIV has Neighborhoods and not boring instances like many other games makes it even better.
Unfortunately, I dont think I will ever get a house in this game.
For me the outdoor space is the most important aspect. As much as I enjoy interior decoration, I love landscaping and designing the perfect outdoor space to relax in. I can't help but imagining being my character when playing MMOs and housing is an integral part of that self-insert/isekai fantasy. In the past I was very happy with my FC house room while saving up for an actual house. Once I got the house and had a yard to mess with, the FC room no longer scratched that itch.
The single floor in apartments/FC rooms is a decent amount of space for what it is, but there's just something more about having another floor/basement, and I don't mean simply the extra space.
I wouldn't say the outdoor space is 100% absolutely essential, to the point where I won't engage in housing without it, but I would much rather wait to see if I can get a house and not get an apartment even if I have the Gil to spare. If I still haven't been able to get a plot by the time the Great Land Grab of 6.1 is over I'll start seriously considering an apartment as an option.
