Lehko Habhoka says hello.
It's a single player story at its core so other players are not taken into account. Technically you're one of the few male vieras or miqote that decided to break away from their communities in exchange for adventure.
I don't really get the hate toward adding more races to the game? People wanted to see male viera in game for the first time and it honestly came out of nowhere. People weren't expect SE to even announce them considering covid. So the fact that they did it is impressive tbh.
If people are so gung-ho about sticking to lore, then Viera shouldn't be playable since they don't leave the woods. Lala shouldn't be able to play muscle bound jobs like War or Drk because physics.
This is an MMO, and a fantasy game at that. This isn't realism simulator. Of course some things are going to be out of the ordinary.
Mostly I've seen people supportive of the addition with trolls and some haters being negative as usual.
$$$$$$$$$$
If i had to guess, probably the massive world war currently going on. It displaced a lot of viera and hrothgar, there isnt any reason why that would only affect a specific gender (even forest guards gotta move if their forest burns down)
The reason I posted in the m viera thread, a whole two years ago, about wanting m viera to appear in a standalone game before 14 was that I expect to see 0 lore invested into them. We didn't see anything for F Viera, but it's.. fine I guess. We know about them from the Ivalice games. I'm beaten down by two long years of silence on healer design and no bunny hair so I really don't even expect there to be much more than maybe an npc with a throw away line about male viera. :( In fact the line Fran has in the SB raid series may be all we get!
What worried me more was the "This is a 14 original design." We wouldn't have had any of the great Au Ra lore if it wasn't for the Azim Steppe, but I don't really trust SE to give us another one of those. Looking at the map in the trailer didn't fill me with any kind of confidence in it.
Necroing thread to say we're almost to early access and still no lore. So sad.
they will just grab the females lore and put some white out over some sections
I think that the fact that we can play them from lvl 1 in the MSQ and that no one will reference it and be even slightly surprised pretty much makes it better to just not ask any questions about it.
Same reason why Miqo'te went from "rare" to a crapton of important NPCs all being Miqo'te.
Same reason Y'shtola faked death at least twice.
Same reason that ShB character's "sacrifice" was another fake-out.
Fanservice. There is no deep meaning behind these. They can come up with "lore" reasons after the fact.
That said most people don't like gender-locked races anyway so it doesn't matter how good or bad the lore reason male viera will be infesting Eorzea is. Let people have options.
their women aint got no butt
so they went out in search of butt slider
tbh tho
It's how it is with my alt. It's mating season, his mate is not in the village where she's supposed to be, wtf, so now he's gotta go find her. But with his intense training, he's developed Geralt levels of helping people beat up bad stuff whenever asked, so it's taking him a while.
We're talking about being infested with male Viera later this week, but I kinda feel for these poor reclusive bunny bois suddenly finding themselves among... people.
The way they organize their society is kinda dumb, semi-exiling your rather rare men from your civilization, but also barring them from living among other civilizations, that's got to lead to at least some male Viera thinking 'this sucks, screw it I'm leaving for good'.
I'd imagine the whole system has been slowly falling apart for a while, but due to Viera lifespan being 3 times longer than the other races the collapse has essentially been in slow motion.
Over the past hundred plus years what was initially a small trickle of Viera ditching the forests has morphed into a flood, and with the impending end of the world, a full on mass exodus.
That's my head-canon for it at least.
Mild name spoilers for pre-EW lore:
They are not coming out of hiding as a group. The ones you see, like all adventurers, decide to go their own way in life.
This is not WoW where you are part of a racial faction and most of what you do is in service to that faction, at least early on. In this game adventurers are rebels. Several of the people you meet look down on you because you chose the life of an adventurer. Many of you (your character) would also be unwelcome if you returned to your ancestral homes.
Semi off topic but it looks like Sage trainer is a male viera :)
The story I came up with for my bun boi is that when an older male came tapping him on the shoulder and telling him that it's time to go into the village to mate with the females, my bun says he'll be right there. Buuuut then he nopes the heck out of there and doesn't stop running until he's out of the woods.
That night, in a cave, he curls up into a ball and cries himself to sleep. Not because he will miss the others but because he can't hear the Whispers of the Woods anymore, and the silence is deafening.
But then!
*queue classic FF music*
"Hear... Feel... Think"
And TA DA! Bun boi goes on an adventure!
and hell yeah there be some fine looking guys out here
You think people pay attention in this game? The MSQ is simply a hurdle to standing AFK in limsa all day!
For real though. Even if the expansion were not about the end of the world, the player character has always been separated from lore conventions, and is treated entirely as a special individual.
Not to ruin your backstory thing, but the Green Word isn't actually a voice in one's head. It's just the name they have for their laws.
Like we have the constitution, they have the green word. It's basically the "don't interact with anybody from outside of these woods unless you reallllly have to" law
Cookies, potatoes, and catgirls.
[ No, don't worry! Not at all! I welcome the correction. It's helpful. There's several other things in my made up thingy that doesn't add up either. Like you wake up while traveling, and not after sleeping in a cave etc. I could just change it to something else? Like calling it "the Whispers of the Woods" or something? I actually like that better! Yes! Yes, I think I will.
Thank you! <3
its a different ff game entirely, with links to previous ones and that is enough really
If it's described around Fanow, then it's a specific phenomenon to the Vii's of the first. The viera wiki page doesn't mention anything about it. Unless they're being entirely metaphorical. I remember a side quest in Fanow about the Viis realizing they should try and reconnect with their exiled sisters, but i don't recall it mentioning anything about them hearing a mythical voice of the forest, and how they're cut off from it if they leave.
As far as i know, the only canon creatures that can literally hear the forest are the Padjal (Seedseers).
"The Viera wiki page" is not a definitive source on the game. The wiki is fan-edited and fans can get things wrong.
Also my understanding is that there was a dev statement somewhere that Viis and Viera culture can be considered near-identical but I don't have a quotable source for that. Err on the side of caution, but it does add up that on one side the Viera have an un-elaborated-upon "Green Word" and their racial and cultural counterpart is sensitive to the voice of the forest.
YoshiP and Matsuno have said that the lore of viera can be carried heavily from Ivalice-games to the world of XIV but in the world of Eorzea vs XII/FFT Ivalice. That's why as far as male viera are concerned the vast majority of lore comes from Matsuno on Twitter.
i think another way to look at it is maybe theres a male viera in there community that after fighting and arguing with the other male viera leaders they finally decided to send a group of there top fighters to assist kind of like how doma helped the alliance before even joining properly they used there highly skilled ninjas/spies/scouts
If they are as close to the XII Viera as they say then there's definitely something speaking to them.
There's a scene where Jote "listens" and winds swirl around her and you can hear whispers, and she refers to the Green Word and their laws separately;

And one of Fran saying her ears can no longer hear the Green Word (which would be a strange thing to say if it was just their law), and asking her sister to communicate with the Wood in her stead;

Those towers Fandaniel made look like giant purple carrots from far off.
