What Age Are Most of the players here?

You shouldn't really find too many kids playing this genre really, or at least not this generation of mmorpg. You guys are usually playing Fortnite or Rust, Minecraft, or whatever. I'd say the youngest here would be early 20's for the most part. I'd actually say I am generally on the younger side of the people I have actually met who play (mid 20's, Birthday soon).

When I was 16, I mostly just played PvP oriented games and shooters. Only RPG I touched was like Runescape, or AQ worlds in class. Heck, I actually spent around $1000 on Combat Arms around your age. You would be given a status symbol like "Diamond" for how much you spent in the game. Now I've spent $1000 (maybe more?) in this, so old habits die hard.

I think mainly 20-40. Youngest I knew was 17 and oldest 70, the 70 year old I still encounter from time-to-time.

People I know tend to be adults, but random encounters you generally don't know.

Judging by how the community acts towards criticism, probably average age is around 12.

I started playing mmos at 16, pretty sure a lot of us here did at the time. Mmos just aren't really a 'thing' for younger folks these days, I guess?
I agree that more younger folks have things like Fortnite, Til Tok, or whatever else entertainment there is other than mmos.
I've noticed a lot more anxiousness among people that haven't touched an MMO before (which I'm assuming may be a lot more younger people?), because of the former mmo player communities that have existed. You know, the whole WoW stereotype kind of people and the infamous toxic players. Idk, never played WoW so I can't personally compare.

All if this is personal opinion though, lol. I could be waaaay wrong.

As for my age, I'm 27 turning 28 this year.

Thats generous, I would say 5 is the average, just incoherent crying and yelling when they dont get their way/telling the devs what to do better

28 here. I never really came across anyone under the age of 19-20, so I guess everyone's right to say 20-40. My boyfriend, who also plays, is 26.

Althought age and the way people behave can be very different, ah.

Not only is he a triple legend, he's also a devout follower of section 3.3. A shining beacon and a role model for everyone to follow. We need hundreds like MPK.

But in my experience, age has nothing to do with maturity. I've met very mature teenagers in other games, but also adults who were worse than a toddler next to the candy shelf at the store.

I was 16 when I started playing back in 2013. Im 24 now.

Jeez, looks like I am in the older crowd. 36 years young for me. I will say I do enjoy that age becomes a bit less relevant when in this community, I cannot remember the last time I asked that question to someone in game and honestly last I even questioned it. Pretty neat to see the range in ages on here playing together.

28 and shout out to my friend on another MMO who is 72. MMO ages skew older for sure, as the market is essentially selling to the same demographic. Teens have less money to afford subscriptions, and MMOs as a genre require you to keep playing.

Hmmmmmm. Nope. Not going to mention that I watched the first Apollo moon landing on black and white television ...

It sets you up as a target for predators who may make attempts to befriend you in game and get your trust. Your entire post reeks of "I'm looking to make friends my age" and that sets on a bullseye on you.

There are children who play but they don't boast about their age. Their parents have at least taken the time to teach them how to protect themselves on line.

That's a good point. It was actually MMOs that made me realize you can't generalize people into generations. I have friends 10 years older and younger than myself, and everything in between.

There's some weird thing with some younger people (at least I've noticed) that anyone older then like 25 and anyone that more then a few years older then you can't be their friend, and that you shouldn't be "in the fandom" of things. Was blocked by someone becuase I was "too old" to be in such things.... And I'm only JUST 30 today!!!! Age is just a number.

On the flipside you have people like OP who carry this energy of like... "People my age suck because people my age only like ABC when I like XYZ!"

It's not as strongly portrayed, especially in the first post where it's asking if people their age play the game, but later on in their post history it's... a bit much.

Yep. This is a really long time ago, but I never played WoW because my Mom thought it was a stupid idea to pay 15 dollars a month on a game. I think this was the earlier years of WoW, but I distinctly remember the little argument we got in in the store. Yet just a few years later I was spending boatloads of cash on microtransactions, but those aren't a subscription.. :rolleyes:

I don't know about that. This game is simply played by a different demographic. I can find a kid screaming on the mic quite quick in some of those games I listed. A few months ago I downloaded Rust again, to try out some update (cars I think), and as soon as I logged in I was hunted down by a group of kids screaming at me over the mic.

I just turned 40 on Tuesday... yaay


And yes for some of you get your giggles out about me being born on 4/20...

My primary social group in the game is mostly people age 35-50 with one confused 17 year old that is our baby and he doesn't understand half our jokes.

This just makes me laugh because the majority of the fans of Pokémon and Animal Crossing are adults past their mid-twenties. Imagine a game like this one that has significantly more mature themes and being part of a series that has been around for much longer. I have met people over the age of 50 who play this game. One of them is insanely good at dps.

Tis true. Generation conflict is not new and had evidently been there since ancient greek. Older gen glorifies their way of life while newer gen wants change from old ways.

I met one good friend here who is almost 10 years younger than me. I like to tease him being in diapers while I was playing FFX :-)

Hitting mid 30s this year, started this FFXIV since 2014.

37 but I do not look, feel or act as.

The minute you finish school and start working alongside people from different age groups, you'll realise the biggest con your parents ever pitched is self control and responsibility through maturity. BS > There's no such thing as maturity. It's all a lie.

Unsolicited Advice - Make sure to find sustainable habits now that will keep you looking as young and happy as you'll hopefully feel on the inside, and also prepare yourself for the disappointment of upwards parenting to the very people that taught you the fundamentals.

Also, get used to the concept that the older you get the sensation of time passing accelerates.

Oh no worries, I was just talking based on experience. To be honest, I'm quite sure a lot of teenagers play the game but perhaps don't use the forums or simply don't stay long enough to be noticed ? Who knows lol

Same goes for older folks. If I remember right, once I saw a thread where an old lady was looking for a FC. She was all polite and nice, it was refreshing :D

I'm 37, but I feel really old because everyone in my static is in their early 20s. I was playing MMOs when these people were 2 and 3. Even younger if you count text based MUDs. I was playing those before some of them were even born.

I'm 22 now, but I started playing when I was around fifteen or so. I am the baby in the fc lol

59 this month.

I'll be gaming at the nursing home...:-D

Turned 35 this year. Graduated high school the same year that World of Warcraft came out. Given the fact that most people in their 30-40s were in high school and college when the MMORPG genre was invented and games like WoW, Final Fantasy XI, Star Wars: Galaxies, Everquest, etc.... were coming out every year its hardly surprising that you see a lot of people older than then 30 in the player base.
