Kinda makes me wonder if Ishgard was ever completed in the first place.
Yes in the PDF it says that all non instanced areas are going to be redesigned. So that is a yes I hope ;x
I kind of doubt Ishgard ever really existed. I'm glad I didn't know that back during open beta...I would've been really disappointed. Back then I thought that the gates to Ishgard would swing open on release day. Man, was I wrong. :(
At this point, however, I'm kind of happy there's no Ishgard in 1.0. Given what I've seen of other locations in the game, I don't think there's any way the inside of Ishgard could have lived up to the view from outside. I know it's kind of weird to hope that it never existed at all now, but I'd like the new team to be able to design it from the ground up following their own vision.
Just for kicks, I tried to come up with the most disappointing scenario for what the inside of Ishgard might have looked like. Ishgard is attached to a huge rock, right? What if the castle on top was mostly decoration, and the accessible area of 1.0 Ishgard was just a few tunnels in the rock.
Ooh, but what do we have here? Ishgard Guildleves! Let's see what we got!
"Find the scattered pages of the Necrologos near Camp Glory..."
I would like to have the possibility to enter in some doors finally... some resident houses to visit (with quests inside).
Its my understanding from the 2.0 pdf's that all the cities were gettting redone. Why would they rdo just LL and leave Uldah and Gridania alone? Especially since they know we can't stand the gridania layout.
Ehm, the pdf's are showing that they also will redesign the cities as well..
seems to be gridania (built on water like Windurst in FFXI?) :

does this belong to gridania (the city) as well?

a small outpost/village:

Limsa Lominsa harbour?

Don't know which city this is supposed to be, thought at first this is Ul'dah but the surroundings are very green, hm. anyone who understands japanese, what is written there?:

seems like a garlean keep (like we receiving in 1.22):

No, its a small mill.. Gridania is to the Southeast of there IIRC.
Those are ruins from outside a dungeon
This will be located NW of Ishgard's gate
Probably the closest thing we have to seeing what a remade city will look like (if this is indeed Limsa and not simply an addition to it). The spikes emerging from the ground around Limsa will radically change the cityscape, and it has fewer towers than the current Limsa. I believe the area in the middle of the spikes will feature the new arena.
This is a new battleground/dungeon area The japanese refers to 'safe spots' while climbing up.
This is a large Garlean base, it will be connected to both Thanalan (north) and Coerthas (south)
Nope.
Not Gridania, but probably nearby.Quote:

Well maybe if you look on the map the picture came from, you could find out.Quote:

That's the PvP arena near Limsa.Quote:
That's instanced "dungeon". Says stuff like "safe spot".Quote:

In conclusion, no evidence that they are changing current cities. But certainly evidence that they are adding new "hamlet" areas and such.
While I'd love to see Gridania burn (and I live there..), I really hope Ul'dah gets smacked by Dalamud really hard. :D
Actually, yeah, I did think of the Tavnazian Safehold. But only after gazing at Ishgard from afar and realizing how easy it would have been for the old team to look at the castle, determine it would be too difficult to make, and then paste in a bunch of caves instead. Then they'd try to work it into the lore.
"Yeah, um....the upper castle-thing? Yeah...you can't go in there. It's, um....for nobility or something. Yeah, that's it. They're very religious and stuff, those Isgardians. Wouldn't want common adventurers soiling the castle, now, would they? But hey: they'll totally let you into the caves! That's pretty cool, right??"
Which, yeah, is probably what happened when they got around to designing the Tavnazian Archipelago in FFXI.
seeing how we have 1 more patch i guess its not comming till 2.0 :(Quote:
Just gimme Ishgard =( plz
I love Gridania also and have spent the greatest portion of my time there however i would like to see it change greatly, the aesthetics are good. but the setup, is ugh-full.
My version of Gridania would be a forested hill. Comes and huts up well worn paths with the stables, adventurers guild and trading buildings at the foot.
The Adders nest GC base at the top in "naturally" grown walls (But not thorns, its been done, SE could do better) The Lancer and Archers guild attached. And a earthen spiral stairway into the depths of the hill with nthe Conjurors guild and some neat Tree roots that all grow towards some damn fine super Aether crystal (Over NINE FEET TALL!)
And instead of doing the classic Single giant tree at the center, have 4 very different types of "major" trees that connect to the roots i mentioned before. Spread the shops, homes and NPCs around the hill Lots of birds (that you can see flying around) NPCs walking (and chatting).
And lastly throughout the town some subtle stonework from long ago. To give the visual effect that it was once a stone build town, that nature reclaimed almost completely, and now the Gridanians have come to to claim WITH nature.
Thats my personal Vision of the Gridania i'd like to see.
I really hope they make it so I don't have to load into anything. Grand company? GOTTA LOAD IN. Market Wards? GOTTA LOAD IN. Merchant Wards? GOTTA LOAD IN. Airship? same thing.
It grows tiring. And I would rather interact with something. Now the MW I guess I can understand, but it should still have it's own building rather than a gigantic invisible wall everyone stands around. Put a gate in front of something we cannot pass through, or guards. Something.
Gridana has the best Airship port because I can walk to it, rather than take an elevator. We need more stuff like that in general.
Ul'dah Airship...
1. Load onto the right floor using elevator (Complete with cutscene?)
2. Converse with gate attendant (Select Limsa)
3. Load dock
4. wait for airship
5. Load "Leaving Ul'dah" cutscene
6. Load "Arriving in LL" cutscene
7. Load into LL dock
8. Talk to LL attendant (Make sure you select YES to leave, it defaults to NO)
9. Load into outer airship area.
10. Load into actual LL from elevator (Yet another skippable cutscene)
And there you have it... Ul'dah to LL in 10 easy steps....
sidenote: I typed the word "load" so much that it actually looks funny to me now... has that ever happened to you guys?
This is absolutely false. Model data is a list of vertices in 3D space. Model placement data is a list of points in 3D space attached to model data. Textures are bitmaps, art assets which are not procedurally generated, which have texture maps, which again are just points, these do not change.
Changing the engine presents a good opportunity to modify things yes, but if they so wanted they could make everything exactly the same from a model data/texture perspective. What they're changing is the way objects in the game are rendered using shading, lighting, and rasterization. The changing of the world is not a result of them changing the engine, it is a result of player feedback.
Not exactly true... Engines can be made to use assets from other engines....
For example... I could build a brand new engine right now that is compatible with the FFXIV 1.xx MOB models... and then could import the MOB models that are a part of the game folder on your hard drive directly into the new engine....
Is that what they'll do with 2.0? I have no idea... But the time between Yoshi taking over and 2.0 doesn't really allow them a lot of time to redo every single 3d model on characters, MOBs, weapons and environments... thats a shit-ton of remodeling
edit:
Just had to beat me to it.. huh?
as far as city mods, I thought Limsa was getting a PvP arena
We had a talk with Yoshida about this, and he let us know that the three city-states won't be completely redesigned from the ground up after the launch of 2.0. However, areas that caused a lot of frustration or weren't very convenient might have some changes made to them.
I wished they were cities instead of forts.
sorry but this feels a lot more like a city than any of the places in FFXIV

My concern is where will things like an auction house go, player housing? I do not want to see a repeat of everything being entererd through the market wards. The grand companies should have a visable base within the city as should the main story place and an auction house. There is nothing partically interesting to look at within the cities they lack colour and are pretty damn awful in comparison to XI's. I'll reserve further judgement until I see 2.0 but this does have me slightly concernerd.
This is a shame. The cities were designed by monkeys it seems... the only somewhat acceptable design is uldah's.
Seriously, take a look at sandoria, windurst, bastok. Windurst had a pretty lousy design so it needed teleport npcs, and here on xiv every city needs those...
I'd also like to see more lively cities. With npcs going on with their lives and stuff.
