I've heard that Yoshi said that all the events in ARR, HW, SB and ShB happened within the same year. So not that much time actually passed on the Source.
(I don't have an actual info source unfortunately so can't confirm for sure.)

Well it is an asian game.
So ... umm well..

I see this adequately reflected in game. :D
That makes absolutely -0- sense. There is no way all these events would fit into a single year.
I think they'll probably handle time progression similar to WoW, with the addons basically displaying real time.
Not at all.
Do you think the restoration of Doma and Ishgard...
Establishing the Crystal Braves and training personnel, troop movements and liberation work of Doma / Ala Mhigo, research into Allagan technology on numerous occasions, political negotiations regarding Ishgards joining the city states and ending the dragon war / change of political structure... do you honestly believe these kind of things happen in a few weeks or months?
Even if the expansions are displayed in real time, considering what happens behind the scenes (most stuff the player never sees on screen but are necessary preparations/aftermath) would be pushing it quite hard.
I wouldn't mind if they added more faces like some of the NPC ones and Male miqote has a older face
its the one Chai uses
id play elezen if i could look similar to Aymeric id deal with the walk cycle
Re: story time
yeah it makes absolutely no sense but they keep saying it's only been 1 year.
Even though, as per another current thread, even if you only count all the ship travels to and from Doma of the npcs, that makes even just SB multiple years long.
Their time bubble is pretty ridicolous but they insist on it.
Imho if you count all that's going on it's been like 10 years or so. Count also all the time in between patches where npcs tell you to take time off and rest, that should count too.
Not just when Nuhn, if you look at the RDM dude (I'm really bad at names) he also looks very old.
And I think M'nago's mother looks oldish? I can't recall for sure about that one though, so I might be wrong.
Maybe it doesn't but that's how things are officially. Which explains why NPCs don't really age.
We can still speculate on how long it could have been I suppose but I doubt there would be an official info on that since to them it's still 1577.
Time spent in the First is irrelevant to their physical ages because they're not in their bodies, which remain in the Source and subject to the normal flow of time in the story.
1/5th slower puts them at about age 13 instead of 16.
Also if you're checking from the lorebook, it also specifically states that they hit their growth spurt around age 20.
I don't see a reason to assume that (and especially that Miqo'te age strangely) just because she looks young. Just because you can interpret the faces as being under 20 doesn't mean that you can't accept the character being older than that. 37 isn't so old that someone can't still be young-looking.
You've been misinformed.
The thread has already covered that Elezen only live slightly longer than other races, not "hundreds of years". And there's no real reason to assume that Miqo'te stop aging, outside of reading too much into character models and possibly the statement from Y'shtola's profile saying her age is "ever stopped at 23" which seems to be a fancy way of saying "she looks young" - particularly in conjunction with the suggestion that the Archons have a spell for keeping themselves looking younger. She's probably around the same age as Thancred.
Thancred's "aging" coincided with both the loss of his magic ability and several months stranded in the wilderness.
That's just the time bubble logic. If you count up all the things that happen, really they can't possibly happen in a year - but the writers have made it a rule that they are not "counting time" or allowing it to move forward. By the calendar, all the events have happened in one incredibly long year that just keeps stretching out to fit more time.
It's always five years since the Calamity. The twins are always aged 16 and will never get to maturity.
When I started I wanted to play an old woman who's main profession is a cook and who is saving the world on the side. Unfortunately unlike men, there are no old women faces for any race...
Indeed, but we've seen Thancred on the First for the whole expansion and only lately back on the source and not much, so when people talk about Thancred's change of looks I assume they talk about the first.
I honestly can't recall if he gets back to looking younger when back on the source.
I always thought it was funny that male characters have a lot of faces where they look really old, while all female faces look young. I'd love to have the old lady elezen face type!
I don't think the OP is asking for something unreasonable. If we have young AND old faces options, what's wrong with at least one more that is in-between? The game really needs more diversity in the character creation options, most if the races have just 4 faces and the lack of sliders in this game makes everyone pretty much identical. It needs more faces and more independent options (e.g. horns separated from heads). The only thing XIV has in abundance is hairstyle options.
Completely! Just separating what we have right now would add a bunch. Plus there are some really weird arbitrary limitations. For example, Miqo male face 04 is forced to always have the eye side tattoo, while the face 01 has the SAME tattoo, but toggleable. It would be cool if we could stack 02 face paint options as well, for example. Also, dunno why the muscle tone slider isn't available for everyone out there.
As for actual additions, stuff like:
- At least 2 new face options for everyone;
- New horns and tails;
- We have Light and Dark pallettes to the Face Paint and Lip Color menus, but they are either too faint, or too dark. Would me nice if we have a third "Vibrant" option;
- Of course this is already beaten to a mulch but all the Viera and Hrothgar customization issues.
(⋟ ﹏ ⋞) The young guys we have now are so *⁂((✪⥎✪))⁂* kawaii~~ *⁂((✪⥎✪))⁂*

It's because the character creator runs on the same template for everyone but different things go in the same spaces on the templates.
The races that get muscle tone control (Hyur and Roegadyn) are the two without ear- or tail-length sliders.
Everyone only gets two racial tattoo options - except for Wildwood Elezen who have ear cuffs and Au Ra who have the glowing eye "limbal rings" in the same template space. Miqo'te face #4 loses control over the eye markings but adds nose markings. (Likewise the "other features" section always has five choices, so while both Miqo'te clans generally have the same customisation features, Keepers lose one option to be replaced with a clan-specific forehead gem.)
For what it's worth, I read the eye markings as natural skin markings that must develop as the person ages, since it happens across all cultures and (from memory) it's only optional for the youngest-looking face, plus the "tattoos" look more like face paint to me - so could read it either as the character maybe not being old enough to have the markings yet, and possibly painting them on instead to look older.
I also think the eye markings look better in that darkened-skintone colour than in a stand-out colour, so I'm glad of it being built into face #4 as I use that with a brown-skinned character and (on experimenting to see if I could get the cheek stripe tattoos to the same colour) I could not get anything close to that colour in the palette. I made them contrast instead, but I wouldn't have wanted that on the eyes.
How do they type like that? Their KB made out of candy or something?
Lol! Please, a person isn't supposed to laugh this hard!
Oh right, faces, this is face thread, faces uh.. Sure yeah, we could always use more faces, 30 year old face yeah, yeah cool. Old man face, nah. The old man faces we have are hideously ugly too, they couldn't even make them look good. Like distinguished I mean.
I'd like to see more interesting scar options. All we have now are a few scratches on some races. Give us a ragged-edged tear, or a Zuko burn mark, or damaged horns and notched ears.
I am really sorry but your Opinion makes no sense to me. Why should i play a different game when i like a lot of things in FFXIV? I am trying to politely ask for more mature male face-options. I am sure there are some things you dont like or could be better in your opinion, that doesnt mean you have to play something else.
The real question no one is asking is why can't we customize to look like Matoya.
Agree with the OP
The lack of facial hair styles is proof of this....
