Pandamic aside, Yoshi is still also the producer for FF XVI.
Even without the pandamic you don't have time to be the producer of 2 big IP's at the same time.
Look at how sleep deprived he is, and he has been for a long time already, you can clearly see how much time he invested in XIV and now he's also the producer for XVI...
I must be the only one who hates the action combat and misses the old style turned based rpg style.
Allot of the Heavenswards A team went into making this right after Heavensward went live. (before the patch cycles) This gives off serious Heavensward vibes, mixed with 15 vibes. There's no way this isnt the project that Yoshida has been working on for all these years in secret.
Im glad that the graphics were actually toned down, and not as high as FF15/FF7Rs early development. Shows how much Yoshida knows to keep the graphics within reason, in order to keep on schedule. It might actually be the 1st good offline FF in a long while. (Maybe. The combat still screams FF15, which Im meh on. FF7R was pretty decent start, and I'd like to see expanded, but Im not quite getting that vibe from this yet. maybe in future trailers we'll see more UI, to get a better picture.)
Kinda hope there's more color to it. We're starting to regress back to the greys of the PS3/360 era and I miss when FF had art styles instead of all this hyper-realism. I'll wait till after its original release when they make a complete edition with all the dlc's added in one disc. I wouldn't want a FFXV repeat.
Looks like a combination of Witcher 3 and Shadow of Mordor.
We need another love/romance themed ff...i hope this isnt another edgy boi title lol. i really didnt care for ff15 story.
SE has stated for years that Final Fantasy is their "for everyone" brand and where they test new things. They still publish games like Octopath Traveler and Bravely Default, both of which have turn based combat and there are other studios making those kinds of games too. Persona 5 is a turn-based game that ended up being pretty popular, but it's still "niche" and for the most part, wide crowds across the world don't play turn-based games as much anymore. You can't expect a company to fund and deliver a AAA turn-based game these days.
I'm cautiously optimistic since Yoshi-P is involved and the action director is from Dragon's Dogma and DMC5. But SE has a track record of bringing the "right people" in and setting our expectations high, only for it to fall apart in the end anyway.
It looks okay. Gonna need more information and game footage to get a better idea of whether I might like it or not though. Looks promising, I'm just not sold quite yet.
Looked decent I want to see more though. I have not liked the more recent actiony Final fantasy titles so far compared to the older turned based ones. They are good games just I would rank them lower then say FFVII, FFVIII, FFIX, FFX and so on on my ranking scale. FF sorta ends up competing against itself, not sure if anything will be able live up to what the earlier titles did when they revolutionized the rpg genre.
My opinion though.
Looks great so far. I'm liking the story direction and the clearly 14 adjacent character designs. Definitely curious if it will stay single character focused or if that's just all they had to show at this point.
FF15 in theory was a romance themed one, with Lunafreya, except they failed to deliver on the story. They rushed that game so hard that you had to play different titles, dlcs, watch a movie and an anime to see the actual story. And I fear FF16 might be on the same path. So much budget goes to flashy and cool graphics nowadays. I miss the old titles where you had a bigger team and members joining throughout the story, and picking who joined your battle party instead of a fixed "cast" of members with boring storylines, and from what we saw in the trailer, it's following the same path as well it seems, like a Noctis v2. They're focusing the main story on a boy and everything will be around him, just like FF15.
I hope I'm wrong but I learned my lesson for hyping about FF15 and I won't hype it again, especially since it's only for PS5 and it's gonna be overpriced on release.
glad im not the only one, it always end in a disaster anyway or overhype. I much prefered the XV Bros writing which was probably the best thing about XV than another relationship face rub, its already enough that if theres a tiny bit of it in XIV ppl somehow manage to magnify it as something huge
I'm here for it. Can't wait to play it when it comes out in 2031
The biggest issue with FFXV was the fact that it was in development hell for over 10 years, was originally intended to be part of the FFXIII trilogy that got scrapped, and for most of it's development time the people making it basically had no direction and only vague concepts to work with. (Like as in 20-25% of the work was even done by the time it switched to being FFXV) It wasn't until basically the last few years of it's production that they actually kicked into a proper development mindset and even then they were scrapping story ideas from the original script and basically seemed to just cobble stuff together. Tabata even apparently considered scrapping the story entirely in 2012 because it was such a mess.
All that to say that FFXV was a very special case where basically everything that could go wrong, did go wrong. So long as FFXVI doesn't decide to be monumentally wishy-washy with it's development, which is unlikely since Yoshi-P is on the project, it should at least be a decent time. I'm not expecting anything grand, FFXIII and FFXV both soured my opinion of the main line titles for this franchise, as does how they chopped up FF7 (which was a choice made back when SE was 100% on board with chopping up their games to get more money) but I would hope that with Yoshi-P's guidance it at least won't be a dumpster fire.
I'll say this right now.
If the battle/damage text is "flying" text instead of traditional pop-up text, or no option to toggle it to pop-up battle text, (FFXIV is the ONLY Final Fantasy that uses flying battle text instead of pop-up battle text.)
or
There is random "you are here" bull $*&^ pop up black box text right in the middle of the screen like in this game, and no option to turn it off.....
I will not, will not, be buying FFXVI.
Of which FFXVI would then be the very first Final Fantasy I never buy.
Thank you for the insults and false accusations, I have been convinced to absolutely not purchase FFXVI. I will save my money, thank you again. Nor will I be discussing it further as to avoid publicizing the game positively or negatively.
“Sony opened its September 16 PlayStation 5 showcase with a trailer for Final Fantasy 16, confirming that the game is in development under Square Enix's Creative Business Unit III, which is the same branch of the company that maintains Final Fantasy XIV: A Realm Reborn and produces the expansions. This business division, headed up by Naoki "Yoshi-P" Yoshida, typically focuses on MMOs. This appears to be a glaring exception.”

I don't really prefer to comment on final fantasy 16 because it is undoubtedly too early to have an overall overview of the game,
but I find that graphically it was not up to the level of a next gen game,
and characters are not charismatic, it's the warrior of light with two different hairstyles.

Sign me up. This game has the foundation of becoming the best final fantasy entry ,nigh the best game ever made.
SE pls give your team everything they need and want. This game needs to succeed.
Is XVI part of XIV's universe, another shard, or just an alternative of XIV?
Because I watched the trailer just now and I swear I heard "eikon" "mother crystal" "summoned their eikon with crystals"
I'm liking the medieval settings. Honestly it's all speculation but this could be our next-gen mmo with the bit of information we have here ( https://www.usgamer.net/articles/con...n-game-emerges ) and the FFXVI official announcement we've gotten today. The concept art in the blog is also fitting the medieval theme.
Anyways, we'll probably know more during Tokyo Game Show on the 27th later this month.
Yes I know that, crystals and summons and such. IX my favorite called them eidolons. But 16 used the exact terms, not just another name for them. Mother crystal, eikon, etc. Like FF9 had the father crystal, who's name escapes me at the moment, but again, different terms. This was the exact same ones.
Of all the possible arguments against FFXVI, this is probably the weirdest take and the most petty.
I can understand not being into action games or the fact that the design of what we've seen so far is bland and uninspired (unless your inspiration is recent western RPGs). But flying text and zone entry text is some next-level nitpicking. I wish I had half the passion for anything that some people seem to have for seemingly mundane things.
Now this is a take that didn't cross my mind; could this be a new FF mmo? Would be great but I doubt it. Graphically I'd welcome it; this seemed to be presented in a regular FF kind of way to be an mmo.
No, the last one was definitely FFXII.
Huge 14 vibes from the trailer! I haven't been this hyped for a non mmo final Fantasy since 12! I love high Fantasy settings and so I'm happy to see FF return to its roots here.
14 has had a nice mix of Fantasy and Sifi, but something more purely high fantasy suits my tastes very well!
(Tinfoil Hat time: if this were to take place in the 14 multiverse I think it could be the story of the 13th shard before the fall, my crack pot theory)
