I don't see anyone throwing a temper tantrum. I see people disappointed that newly designed gear isn't being designed for Hrothgar and Viera. I understand if SE never makes pre-5.0 headgear work for those races. That is a LOT of gear to go back and redo, so can totally see them not bothering because that's a lot of time and resources to do it. But new post-5.0 headgear should be wearable by Hrothgar and Viera.
The hat appears to just be a reskin of the Capeline hats that are already in game, so that's probably why it's (most likely) not going to be available for Viera & Hroth. It is a bummer though. :(
Because it doesn't seem to be about not going back and fixing old hats, it's about the design of their heads that, for whatever exact reason, apparently doesn't mesh well with the function of equipping a hat.
Thus you get things that don't mess with the models, or only do it in a way that isn't incompatible. But I don't think standard hats are ever going to be equippable because the characters haven't been built in a way that allows them to do so.
It's nice to get a nice outfit that is not a bikini, but I would have loved a new yukata.
That said, it's not a complaint, just a wish.
I love the dance and the pieces.
Because it has been an entire year, and people were told that they would be adding more headwear and hairstyles over time. They have not delivered on that yet. Considering recent events it is completely understandable, but...that's hardly the point. They had opportunities before the world went to crap and did not deliver then.
Meh. I can't wear the hat cause Hrothgar. The rest of the outfit is a no go as well cause it's a bit ugly. Oh well. I'll quickly get it and shove it into the armory as per usual I guess.
Just because it's "standard" doesn't mean we must accept it.
This looks fine to me

Female only Miqo'te
Male only Roegadyn
were standards until we changed it.
This was done before the expansion launched and Yoshi said it was done by some of the designers on their own time because they could get some if it done. To my knowledge, nothing new has been converted since and no new added after (unless maybe a new circlet here and there).
I generally really like it, and it's nice that we're getting so much (multi piece glamour, a full dance emote and a housing item) all in one event. And that's with Yokai and The Rising coming right up with their own rewards as well.
I guess if there's anything I'd personally complain about is that the bikini top while nice is pretty similar to the majority of the bikini tops we already have in game. But that's a complete nitpick.
All of that looks great but I especially love the bottoms. I've wanted a summer look that isn't a bikini or short shorts bottom for ages. Although I'd still like the male version of the "endless summer" ones, this looks just as good if not better.
Pretty much! Love the sun hats!
No doubt, if they can wear it they would have shown them. Let's just never speak of those races ever again? :p
Poor quality aside, you haven't taken in account all ear sizes or shapes.
I love that hat. If it's Viera-compliant, that would be wonderful. If not—I'm still getting a lovely Sarong/Pareo out of this, and the rest of the outfit is nice as well.
The problem is that it's not just a matter of photoshopping ears into the right position. A few things have to come together and work.
This is just speculation based on what I've seen, but there are multiple parts that have fixed shapes/positions and have to work together here for the simple illusion of a character "putting on a hat":
1. The character's head
2. Hair in two pieces: divided around the "hat brim" line, and the top part switches off when hats are equipped. (Viera may not have actually been programmed to have this if they had no plans to ever allow hats in the first place.)
3. Ears - from some screenshots I saw when people were having early glitches with ears or hair vanishing in certain circumstances, it look like the ears don't actually join the head but float somewhere above it with the "fluff" of hair filling in the gap between.
4. The hat itself, which may be closer-fitting than the hair it's covering/replacing.
The question is, once you put that all together, do the ears actually meet the head or do they possibly hover somewhere over is, exposed by the hat?
Unlike photoshopping where you can put the ears exactly where they work, they have to sit in a fixed position over the head and the hat has to meet them.
The few functioning headpieces we have for Viera (to my knowledge without playing one) are loose-fitting hoods that could be easily adjusted to ensure they can line up with the ear bases.
Does this add up or am I on the wrong idea?
Yes, there are a number of elements that go into making a hat work. That's why they talk about their not being a system inplace for them.
Not only does it need to have the hair made to work with hats, the hats need to be designed to accommodate 4 different types of ears with different shapes and angles they stick out at ... one of which they knowingly designed in a way that would look hella bad in most wide brim hats unless they changed the model upon wearing a hat.
They didn't intend on giving them hats or helms so there's no reason to think they would go back and make the changes needed for them to work moving forward when so many things have to be designed in a way to make them work.
You'd have to find the quote, but I think it may be one of those misrepresented ones. Like the infinitely-repeated claim that they'd allegedly have "more customisation than other races" from the Fan Fest reveal when all that was actually promised was unique customisation.
From vague memory, I think they said they planned to add headgear later prior to the glasses and circlets being implemented - which IIRC was rushed exactly because of fans' reaction to the announcement that nothing would be visible to begin with. We were never specifically promised hats in addition to the circlets.
this whole corona thing really started affecting SE at february/march.
Because, after a year, aside from having zero updates on both races, they keep making new gear that instead of taking into consideration Viera and Hroth's uhh...handicap, they take the easy route and ignore them altogether. Sure, that hat looks good and is totally thematic, no argument there, but it wouldn't have been hard to give an optional item Viera and Hroth can also use like idk, a tropical flower hairpin or a tennis cap.
The stewardess hat from Copied Factory already proves they can make hats that work with those races, but constantly decide not to.
1. Do you have examples of which headpieces float off on Viera? I'd like to compare it to other races. I'm pretty sure it floats off on other races and their hairstyles as well.
2. You claim all that yet....

Seems the other races have hair puffyness and clipping issues as well, the world is about to explode
If the Viera ears passing through the hat bothers them they can cut out earholes for them.
Because they also said they were going to make periodically updates throughout the expansion to address this very issue. So far, they have made none despite it being over a year. Maybe rushing two races into the game when they couldn't get everything working for them wasn't a good idea.
For those of you complaining about how the hat isn't going to work on your Viera or Hrothgar, can you maybe wait until the event launches and you have actual proof before you start bitching. It's a similar situation to the Valentines day event. Wait until you have a reason to be upset and don't speculate.

You don't pay my sub
People have been making these predictions and were always right, except in 1 case.
It's important to call it out in the run up.
I am once again asking for newer items to be Vierra and Hrothgar possible.
Otherwise, mods should not be so hard pressed in this community with Squeenix not being able to do what others are doing without issues, since clearly they have enough time for events and adding new stuff to the cash shop all the time. So is it that the devs are just lazy and hate hrothgar and vierra players? Cause that's pretty much all I see when I look at anything in shb that has headgear (including relic armor).
Saying they don't have time to develop any hats that are newer in shb (not the older stuff, cause there's so much of that and will agree with that) is such a copout answer. Just like Yoshi-P and his copout answer of Monster Hunter gear (even though we're master crafters 5-6 books in at the time in sb, and now 7-8 master books in) that we can't get gear identical to MHW, when none of it looks remotely close to anything MH related for either of those sets. I shame Capcom and YoshiP for agreeing to that garbage set of armor instead of actual Rathalos armor that's iconic to the game).
The simple answer is (just like jobs), the devs don't actually play the races newer. So rather than making appropriate changes with people who play the jobs (that can clearly be seen by the amount of forum posts in each job category section), they hand it off to a second-hand team who has no idea about how to fix things properly. The people who DID actually do things (sadly while in their spare time) should be part of the dev team that helps to focus on Vierra and Hrothgar (since they clearly have the drive and passion to make it possible).
Every time I see that emote that song pops in my head that goes, aweema way aweema way, I think it's from Lion King but I can't remember.
I'm gonna put my money on the guess that the Hawaiian shirt and khakis are gonna be something the crafters have to make like the rebel coat and those boots that go with the rebel coat were.
