Expect more Crystal Tower in Roulette soon...

I'm honestly not sure why people are giving out that they'll need to finish the CT series when its so easy, I mean Labyrinth and the Tower are incredibly quick and simple and even World of Dankness is rarely that hard unless you get a rare group that cant get past Anger Managment or fail at Cloud's orbs. It should be no suprise either that these need to be done at some point considering the fact that G'raha is a central character not only to the tower but the story itself AND there's a very real possibility considering some of the hints right now that at some point we may end up travelling to the Thirteenth shard in order to repair the damage to it or salvage it(though I'm expecting that in order for this to happen we first need to deal with the Empire once and for all as despite what's happening its the most technologically advanced civilization on Hydaelyn).

Fact is our boy need's not only a conclusion to his current story but deserves a brand new adventure and in order to see that happen they need to make sure his story is consistent which means we need that story completed. Wouldn't be suprised if an element of the story involves having full access to the source CT in 5.3 hence the reason for needing this completed as well.

I guess the solution would be an MSQ Alliance Raids Roulette which covers the 3 CT raids. Make it demand i90 minimum to enter, and all 3 unlocked (so that you have the ilvl for all 3 raids), remove it from the current alli raid roulette, and problem solved.

Perhaps something similar could be done for the Ivalice raids given their requirement for the relic quest? Not sure how to feel about that one though, since the relic is considered optional content.

While ad it, give us back a lv 50, lv 60 and lv 70 roulett, i just dont wanan get ala mhigo all the time... and actually do some of the lv 50s or 60s...

Segemtning the X0 roulettes would allow extra souces of daily EXP, but Ithink the conflation is to prevent bloat/using up too much time.

You know, I didn’t even know there Was a raid roulette. I’ve partially unlocked Crystal Tower previously, but haven’t put much priority into it because I assumed it was like Bahamut where good luck finding a group for it because no one queues it. Similarly I’ve never really bothered with Alexander. Just now watching the post Shinryu credits for Stormblood so I’ll most likely go back and do the tower for the story before I head into Shadowbringers.

Learning the nuances of party finder instead of duty finder is your friend. You can get a party for anything especially if you're new.

From what I can tell from the vague responses here, people are not upset that it is being mandatory for MSQ, they are griping about the fact that this change will make these raids end up dominating the Alliance Raid Roulette. That's why there are some people who don't even unlock them.

For people upset about this; it's not about the MSQ, it's about the Roulette.

Yeah. If there was some way to not get Labyrinth of the Ancients or Syrcus Tower in my roulettes, I'd appreciate it. I don't throw a fuss about it when I get them, but they are my least favourite of the alliance raids. The lax item level requirements have invalidated a lot of the design, and while you get a lot of first timers, you also get a lot of spineless cretins taking off gear to dodge higher level stuff.

World of Darkness is awesome, though. I'd rate it above Void Ark and Rabanastre.

I am already sick of the Crystal Tower as is.

I must admit I am torn on the whole thing. Onthe one hand I want rare minion and a 1 in 24 chance at getting one makes the Mhach and Ivalice minions pretty rare, therefore I'd like having a chance. But on the other hand I find the CT raids on roulette to be rather chill and helpful for leveling alts.

So I got thru my first run of the first tower raid yesterday! Man that things a mess, and I thought the MSQ roulette was a brain dead Zerg rush. So when new people tell you they’re new and to tell them if they need to do something particular, and then not one of the twenty other people tells them where they need to stand, don’t whine when they don’t stand there and the raid wipes.

Not only will crystal tower pop up more in roulette when it becomes required, but it’ll be more new players, people who’ve never done any alliance raids before, and you apparently can’t just ignore them like people do in the MSQ roulette because your success evidentially relies on you teaching them what they need to do.

Well, that's how social behaviour went down in this game, at least from my point of view on European servers.

There were even plenty of people who willingly described things beforehand once they noticed somebody in the group wasn't used to the content.

->Over the years, those helpful persons seemingly shrinked in numbers, while the "Lol, old content isn't serious. Who cares for mistakes!"-attitude grew a lot.

Means: This view on things turns all old content, not only Crystal-Tower-raid, into a roulette itself. Even when you explain stuff, you don't know if the person you want to help will follow the description. (I could tell some experiences, but that would be too much text.)

Which you can understand as: They won't explain anything as they themselves are clueless.

I for one explain stuff in my native language, German, and English as good as I can, but my great weakness - namely French-only players - are something I can't cover with my limited School-French plus Autotranslation.

Some old content I literally haven't done in many years because that's how many years it's been since it last showed up in DF. Yes, the pool of helpful people is shrinking, but there's another discouraging side to this as well: Helping others might actually piss them off because they wanna do it blind/figure it out.

We need ESP to survive.

Edit: I try non verbal communication to people when a mechanic is coming that is sure to kill them. I try jumping, I try being the FIRST PERSON TO MOVE TO A SAFE SPOT and then jumping...
It doesn't always work.

I suggest to use general macros for that not-too-much-communication in case one really is afraid of people disliking some advice.

At least the "<t>(which autotranslates a target's name) (Autotranslation)Attack<se.7>" which I'm using these days for Hard Modes has helped a lot at Ramuh and Levi plus isn't bound to a specific fight.
A "Hide!" with some se.-noise may also help in several situations.

And not to forget the legendary "You Comet Grraarrgh"-macro from old times, which is a must-have for LotA / this kind of battles.

for an 8 man dungeon/raid I am not going to lie, coils is fun though and the story for coils is worth it. running it at level can still be a challenge if no one really understands the mechanics of boss fights. Thats just me though.

I (when not in the role of Maintank) have adapted to these early pulls with stubbornness. When I want to explain something, I do it even if that means some trouble on my end with dps-output and / or avoiding aoes.

In the role of Maintank, I tell the group "One second, please." and write down the necessary advice(s).

From old times you say. The first time I saw that was 3 days ago, and it gave me a good laugh.

Ug, I also did die to Benhemoth’s meteor, but I only blame myself for that one. I should have known better. It’s his signature move in Monster Hunter. I saw what he was doing a couple seconds too late.

Its almost a right of passage to die either to his meteor, or the ancient flare in the next fight. The real tricky one is when the rock youre hiding behind is too close to him, and the ecliptic meteor hits you anyway even though you hid. FYI, your rock has to be outside of his hitbox to count as protection. So you get past LotA and then Syrcus has almost no mechanics that end up getting respected these days, so people relax. Then boom, WoD has at least one dangerous mechanic on each fight. Including a rare trash-wipe if you botch the atomos fight badly enough.

I was warned about the Curtain Call in Syrcus, and standing in A blue bubble for the boss.
I didn’t pick up on much for mechanics going on in Darkness, but someone was using Waymarkers so I did see where to go in the split fight and where to stand during Cloud.
Actually I remember Cerberus one shotting some people, but I didn’t pick up on what was triggering that.

If Cerberus was one-shotting peeps, it was likely to players not understanding the minimum mechanic, or just standing in the ooze not knowing it is a pool of death if they do not have the minimum status. Only other way is if he enrages if Awakening is allowed to go off; but then he just kills everyone.

WoD still has a lot of one shot mechanics, and far more mechanics that still need to be followed in comparison to the first two. While full on wipes in there are rare these days; players dropping are not.

There are a lot of wipes on Xande too, when people don't know :
don't stack the purple orbe BUT each team need to gather on its own to share damage and to remain on the bubble to the escape the OS earthquake mechanic.
Usually the old way to arrange them is to make some kind of triangle around Xande.

On Scyalla, for purple orbes, they have to be positioned on the lighning (three each).
The fire orbe is used to unfroze people.
The puddle is used to lowering damages made by the flare.

On Amon, the blobs silent magic when they explode, then is is better to kill them.
The purple orbes with the link can be used to mini the Kum Kum or the second wave of blobs.

Yeah, if you stand in the ooze on the ground cerberus eats you. At full size, that basically means he rips you in half. But theres a thing on the battlefield shrinking people. So you get shrunk, then you get eaten, then you give him a tummy ache(from the inside). This stuns him long enough so someone can put his chains back on. If no one goes into the stomach(or not enough people and they die), his buff stack keeps growing until he's one shoting everyone. If no one re-chains him, his buff stack goes to the max when he wakes back up and he starts one shoting everyone. The most common strategy ive seen is ABC. Group A takes care of the Adds, B does the Belly, and C takes the Chains. When the fight was new, the chain people would try to attach at the last second(hes stunned for awhile from the tummy ache, chaining wakes him back up but without his buffs) so the alliance could get more DPS out. These days, thats generally a bad idea - if you dont chain him in time he goes berserk and the lost DPS from chaining him a few seconds early doesnt matter all that much.

Note that it's likely to vary on a data centre or possibly country level. The usual rule on my data centre (Elemental) is that Group A goes inside. The Group B tank is always the main tank for the raid so they need to stay out and keep doing that.

Unless there's a mechanic I'm unaware of, I'm not sure why you'd need to designate a whole party to do chains though - it only takes two people.

Also wondering if there's a reason to re-chain Cerberus ASAP rather than waiting until the cast bar for Awakening is nearly full. It seems a lot easier if he's down for longer but hardly anyone waits.

In that case you arent assigning the whole group to chains, just for that group to take care of it. In practice, some of those players often end up in the belly helping out and the rest either help with the adds or stay focused on the boss. Then when the time comes, two of them grab chains and do their thing. And while i have heard of the japanese data center practice of assigning main tank to group B for every fight, that isnt as common on the other data centers. Sometimes this leads to the best equipped tank handling the job(regardless of group), other times it leads to aggro fighting(often complete with boss spinning and extra cleaved healers - see Tales from Duty Finder thread for toughly infinite examples). As for re-chaining, theres no direct reason to do it right away. Indeed, keeping him stunned and doing more DPS can be faster. There are two problems that can arise from this as i understand it. The first is that the person carrying the chain can have it time out, meaning they cant attach it unless they run back and grab it again. If this happens too late in the Awakening cast, then he wakes up and wipes the raid. The second is that even if you dont time out the chain, you can go to connect it too late if youre waiting until the last second. Same thing happens, wake up and wipe. So some people just do it right away to make sure it gets done. Him doing non-"wipe the party" mechanics 15 seconds earlier isnt nearly as dangerous as him finishing that cast bar.

Yeah I picked up on none of that during Cerberus. The one shotting I referenced was the people being swallowed whole, so that was apparently an intentional thing.
