A good thing to know about this is that the safe spot is always in a cardinal direction. This applies to the fire tornadoes as well. As for when he covers the entire arena except one spot... I actually dunno. It seems to be random, but always nearby.

I did this mission after about 100 or so attempts. Used tank mimicry to take less damage. But it wasn't fun that's for sure.

kill the left hand first. i suggest Reflux since it will slow it and dies pretty easy. shockstrike the other one and reflux to desired deadness.

I have tried it so many damn times.
Is sad because up until now this is the only thing i have had issue with.
Never had issues with the MSQ solo fights and blu for whatever reason i cannot get this darn fight down

If you can't avoid the fire tornados as well as that mechanic that covers the area, use Diamondback

I'm about as casual as they come and if I can do it, honestly anyone can. Was it hard? Very, but it's doable.

I did it with minimal spells and only 3 primal spells (didn't know the other 2 did not share a CD with the first 3).

Just go in with Mimicry set to healer and play it safe.

There were a few fights that I was able to cheese beat all their mechanics and get them low but then the boss either repeats a mechanic but missing the vital bits that made it hard or just stands there and smacks me around. I wondered why there was no enrage on these.

They probably felt an enrage wasn't needed when you're already fighting the clock for most of the weekly achievements.

What spells are you using? Azulmagia can be beaten without taking damage since all he does are AOEs. It's just a matter of getting his patterns down.

Personally, I found that the second phase is the hardest because of the Angons, so I disengage to stab them when he chucks them out.

you don't need revive for anything and if you can't clear the story mode you have no business doing savage fights with bluemages.

either you have like 5 second lag or you are moving during pyretic because spells cancel when you move too soon and diamonback cancels after you cast it if you start moving (there are no bugs with any of these things).

You kinda need revive if you want to keep the party from wiping and starting over, even in normal content.

CNJ/WHM, AST, ACN, SCH, SMN, and RDM don't have their rezzes locked behind annoyingly difficult solo duties. Angel Whisper works the exact same way, yet has a ridiculously long cooldown and requires the completion of all 30 Masked Carnivale fights to obtain. It almost isn't worth the trouble.


Furthermore, you don't need to complete all of them to clear story mode, just round 20 for lvl 50 and round 30 for 60.

The main difficulty in the Masked Carnivale is server ping and/or lag. Combined with a lot of one-shots, too much of either makes it unplayable.

That and I can never remember which primal spells share CDs, so I forget how many I can slot at a time without wasting spots.

BLU party content is challenge content. If you want to do, .e.g., Alexander Savage with BLU, everyone should

1) already know the fight, as executed by a standard job party composition

and

2a) know how to handle the fight as a BLU party
or 2b) be prepared to wipe and then get it right the next time

People shouldn't be doing those fights on BLU if they can't already survive them as a real job. Do the learning on a different job, then apply the knowledge to BLU. Accordingly, raise is not something you should need or rely on in a BLU party.

That's quite easy actually. It's their recast timers. Eruption/Feather Rain both have 30 seconds recast. Shock Strike/Mountain Buster 60 seconds recast. Same goes for Quasar/J Kick pair. And then there's Glass Dance/Veil of the Whorl - 90 seconds recast. Surpanakha has unique mechanic and does not share a recast with other primal abilities.

The fights are honestly easier on BLU then with real jobs in a lot of ways, mostly due to White Wind being ridiculously strong and Mighty Guard/Diamondback making healing checks easier and letting you just cheese other problematic mechanics.

The only thing BLU struggles with is tanking as they're too squishy to take more then auto-attacks without Diamondback.

Just did this tonight blind and after three attempts it seemed like an easy clear. Right away it is clear the left-hand is a threat. You just need to Bristle when it summons them and blow it up. If you know there are going to be adds that need to go down fast, make sure you have charges of Surpanakha. Going into it in Shire gear and DPS Aetherial Mimicry the left-hand just melted and the rest I was able to just kill alongside the boss. Surely there are better strategies but if I am doing it on a third go blind I can't imagine it being too difficult.

Edit - I just read over some of the responses to this thread and I completely disagree with anything supporting attempts at attrition. Damage is supreme in FFXIV and it's just as poignant in The Masked Carnival. Pissing around and being overly conservative just gets you into trouble. Especially when you have enemies like these that have timed scripts that pile on complications. The worst thing you could do is compromise on offence when it's not necessary. I say White Wind is more than enough healing and if you are running out of MP you are not using Lucid Dreaming early enough, you are taking too much damage because you are not doing the mechanics right, or you are just not playing well enough to deal the damage required.

I think the real issue with this fight is that Act 1 is a bit of a slog to get through, getting back to Act 2 for another attempt gets annoying very quick each time you make a mistake. The slight delay on flying sardine's silence is annoying too.

So far all of the carnival things have been on the easy side when you know what to do, but certain ones might seem impossible at first if you don't know one specific attack that works especially well. Almost all of FF XIV PvE is like that to some degree, more about knowing what to do than the difficulty of execution. When you know the ins and outs of a scripted fight 100% and start anticipating everything that's coming up then it's a completely different experience.

Yeah I think I would like more stuff that leans towards execution difficulty rather than learning and memorisation a script. Like for example a boss with adds that continuously spawn at certain time intervals and overwhelm you if you aren't killing them fast enough but you don't need to handle them in a very specific way and there aren't any cheap 1-shot mechanics. Just fights that keep upping the pace and intensity of battle but keeping things obvious what you're supposed to do.

Slight delay? A half a second isn't a sleight delay in these situations. Especially when a OHKO is involved.

It is the meteor phase in final phase, i do not get hit but he follows up with what appears to be a knockback and i end up in those wind things with heavy and then die.
For Physical dmg i mostly just use drill cannon or sharpen knife and make sure i keep bristle up. I do also have moonflute but you are vulnerable for a period after it wears off so i avoid on that fight.

I don't know what Surpanakha is opposed to, but I can't imagine any spell being better than 25000+ damage to the face.

Edit: I actually don't think it has a shared cooldown, it doesn't say so in its description.

While I don't think it needs a nerf, I agree this is a really difficult, frustrating, and time-consuming fight, especially if you're like me and are pretty slow learning BLU compared to other jobs.

A lot of unforgiving mechanics to keep track of on top of the HP/MP management that goes with every solo fight, and if you forget just one (or get interrupted by RL aggro), it's over. I also think a player could be forgiven for not using their Primal spells because the fight keeps you too focused on staying alive that busting out the firepower kind of competes with it in your brain's priorities. And there are the demoralizing runs, too. I just got past the hand phase with Ice Guy, only to have him hit me with Throttle in the middle of the geyser phase and follow that up with Fluid Swing as I'm casting Exuviation. Getting closer, though. Thaliak help me!

Also, rolling my eyes at all the "git gud" comments here. They don't give out Nobel Prizes for being good at video game sidequests, guys. Maybe relax, huh?

I never had any trouble with the hands when they spawned. I usually died cause I wasn't paying attention to the boss and it would hit me while I was focused on the hands.

I think those are just knee jerk reactions to whenever someone says something should be nerfed because it's too hard or whatever.

I'm not even sure that it's hard, I think it's more punishing because it requires you to be focused throughout. While it is not comparable to savage difficulty, it does a decent job of designing an encouter that does not boil down to "bring that spell to win" too much, but plays with more game mechanics adaptation. And that's what I kind of enjoy in harder content in FFXIV. I'd argue that this fight could do with some kind of soft enrage mechanic too...

They did say BLU would have "harder" content to give it a broader audience (especially with savage BLU runs etc.), and I'm kind of happy that the Carnivale had its share of more challenging rounds. In the end, it's too bad it is part of the flawed content that is Carnivale, where once it's done there is no real reason to go back there.

Yeah, I remember wiping once when I focused on killing the second hand and then suddenly Fluid Swing into the electricity. I was pretty upset.

I think the right hand is the one you have to kill ASAP to protect your MP and the other one at least gives you a little bit before doing whatever it's supposed to do. The next time around I waited until Fluid Swing before I tried to kill the second add with Primal OGCDs.

The way that fight was done, it feels like main challenge with Siegfried was intended to be doing him with no damage for the achievement. Otherwise, he's a pretty lenient boss with only one or two really nasty attacks.

The "relax" goes both ways. Like you said, it's not MSQ, it's a sidequest - you don't need to clear it, which means it's okay for it to be hard and demanding.
So it's everyone's choice to either put in the effort and "git gud" - or just relax and move on, doing something else. But don't pester the developers about nerfing something just to serve an easy victory on a silver platter, because some of us actually enjoy a good challenge.

While i stated #25 took me sometime, i followed advice from a friend and cleared right away.
#30 i did in my 2nd attempt. You basically want to kill the add (or double) asap as to not deal with multiple attacks at once.
Make sure to bring elemental attacks and throw everything at them, then Siegfried is a breeze.

I like that the new battles are more execution-heavy. You still benefit greatly from having particular elements, but it feels like there is a great emphasis on skill. A lot of the old Masked Carnival fights were boring because the execution component was basic or much more forgiving, and were often a walkover if you can do this one easy-to-perform task. Now there's still a lot of "You have this spell or you die", though it is less likely to be a free win.

Key issue here is there’s a spell locked behind completing it. The spell should be locked behind completing Siegfried (since he’s the BLU final job quest equivalent) then the rest of the fights could be as challenging as they want them to be, they could have some achievements or some side-grade BLU relic armour locked behind them or something, but not a spell. That’s like locking PLD off from hallowed ground until they complete PoTD floor 100 solo rather than putting it behind completing their level 50 job quest.
