I wonder what the chances are of Microsoft doing something where they pay our sub costs if we get the Live/Game Pass service bundle... hey I can dream right? =P
I'm excited that more people will have the option to play the game now.
Xbox itself for all the clout it gets actually do make the more powerful systems so I wouldn't worry too much on Xbox limitations since they were rushing out HDMI support for the 360 first and also made the One X which is THE most powerful console on the market currently.
I would be worried more if a Nintendo Switch port of XIV was made as SE would have to develop the game with that in mind being the lowest common denominator. That's a big reason why the current Switch version of Overwatch is really bad, since the System itself still isn't as powerful as the PS4 or Xbox One since Nintendo is usually behind a generation.
I'm glad Microsoft is embracing the Japanese series so much more. So much love from Namco Bandai lately with Code Vein, the Dragonball games(especially the world debut of Fighters at their conference) and of course PSO2 finally coming over here from Sega. It's like a revolution of the old OG Xbox days in terms of content.
ESO went FTP a couple of months before it was on console.
I’m not familiar with Xbox but is the silver-level online service still a thing? I know that Yoshi said that players having to pay both the gold sub and the FFXIV sub was one of the reasons it’s not a thing.
Then on top of that, last we heard from SE on the topic, Microsoft wanted the option to give their players separate servers and chat tools which was a big nope from SE. That’s still a bit strange that they were pushing for that considering Phil is the guy who is all for cross-play.
I don’t see SE budging on the above things so it’s completely up to Microsoft to play nice but as I said before, I’ll believe it’s coming to Xbox when SE says it is.
Hold it back from what? PS4 support isn't likely to go away for at least a couple years, just as they didn't drop ps3 support the moment the ps4 launched. Unless the x box 1 is somehow greatly inferior to the ps4 I don't really see it being an additional limitation, because even when ps5 version comes out they're not going to drop ps4 support for a while anyway.
This will flop if Microsoft requires players to order Xbox Live subscriptions...and then pay for FFXIV. Essentially paying for two subscriptions. At least with Sony’s PS4, a PS Plus subscription isn’t required to play FFXIV.
This is great news! My GF doesn’t have a decent laptop to run FF14 on, so a Xbox release would be good for her!
This whole strategy for Microsoft is very, very bizarre. Players who have a vested interest in JRPGs are already in the Nintendo / Sony ecosystems. I can't imagine there are very many, if any, Xbox exclusive players who go, 'Hmm, you know what, more Final Fantasy is a good thing.' Those players are already on platforms that thrive on JRPGs.
More players will be good for XIV, but don't expect very many. Xbox players don't exactly dig the macro genre.
Please release on scarlet and not the current gen Xbox please.
Not necessarily 100% true. One of the best JRPG's of all time was an xbox exclusive: Lost Odyssey. Granted that was back in the 360 era, but I played the heck out of it. There are also quite a few other JRPG games on the XB1 due to its backwards compatibility. Games like Blue Dragon, Eternal Sonata, Tales of Vesperia, ect. I would bet there are more players interested than people give credit for.
Welp, there goes the community.
I won't disparage Lost Odyssey, but to call it "one of the best JRPGs" is very much a stretch. Nintendo and Sony's consoles (each of them) has had a console selling JRPG, while no Xbox console has come close to achieving such a feat. The exclusivity (for Sony / Nintendo) is not what it once was, but if what you like are JRPGs, you don't buy the Xbox platform: it does not provide enough titles and most of them are released too far after the Sony / Nintendo release dates.
So, a platform that only gets JRPG scraps and has not had a console-selling JRPG, is now a platform that MS wants to bring JRPGs to? Just don't see the business sense. If anything, it's Phil Spencer and Microsoft not understanding its install base.
They said 2020 so it's possible to avoid being bogged with a last gen issue they might bring out FFXIV with the new Xbox due next year aka "Project Scarlet". Newer ones are like scaled down PC's anyways thanks to AMD being the one suppliying the hardware so win win for all involved.
To be honest the modding community already has some high quality mods that improves the textures and graphics like hair and eyes already but in terms of terrain and such right now I think there's a limit to how much extra data can be added to the game. Gonna be a wait and see of course but honestly the game NEEDS some new textures, I know the original FFXIV had issues for being too demanding on hardware at the time for having too much detail but we are encountering issues now where armor and equipment at least as I'm concerned are becoming serious eyesores with many items having glaring pixelation that really could do with an upgrade in texture detail at least.
I mean well those games you listed flopped hard sale wise and during the later life span of the 360's era, fewer JRPG exclusives were being released on the 360, to the point where I don't even think they had anymore console exclusive JRP's near its end, and that pattern seemed to have permeated to the XBOX ONE. Microsoft consoles have never been the place for JRPG's(exclusives ones no less.)
FFXIV is coming to XBOX in the same way Half Life 3 is coming to Steam.
Just because they say it's coming, doesn't mean it ever will, or will anytime soon.
nice clickbait title. XIV coming to Xbox is still in the same undefined "we are talking about it" stage as beforeQuote:
The big two games missing from this list are Final Fantasy’s two MMOs, Final Fantasy XI and XIV. However, speaking to members of the press at X019 earlier today, Microsoft’s gaming chief, Phil Spencer, said that the company plans to bring Final Fantasy 14 to the service at a later date. “I wanted you to know, rest assured that we will be bringing that game to Xbox,” said Spencer. “We have a great relationship with Yoshida-san and we’re working through what it means to bring [to Xbox] a cross-platform MMO that they’ve run for years.”
This sounds exciting. Looking forward to seeing more players join in!
Surprised people are still in denial about this, this is officially announced, this is happening, might not be till Scarlet but it’s happening.
Yeah some might not realise that they actually are bringing it to the Xbox but the wording of bringing it at a later date suggests they'll launch on the next gen console, there's little point in bringing it to the Xbone when it will be last gen this time next year and we dont want a rerun of PSlimitations.
Having it on the Xbox One and its variants is no worse than having it on the PS4. Unless they foolishly plan to drop PS4 support within the next year or so it's not going to hold them back. If they add it to Xbox One they'll just drop support for it when they do PS4.
People may still be in denial because i do not think SE have announced it yet? I could be wrong but search results just come up with Phil announcing they are bringing the game to xbox and various sites.
Either way i think whatever even if i do not like M$. The more people that can enjoy this game the better (i hope).
Their community just better not bitch about how the game sucks because i will have words for them...
