You seem to be playing an mmo like a single player game. Easy to do in XIV, granted. But it is still an MMORPG. Massive Multiplayer Online being the key words here.

Hmmm...not wanting or not feeling the need for a world chat doesn't necessarily mean a person plays solo. Fc chat and linkshells are a thing you know.
I'm not against the introduction of a regional or world chat, but I don't particularly want it at all to be honest.
In every mmo I played chat channels like that tended to get quite toxic at times so I didn't really participate unless I needed to find a group for something. But with party finder and the LFD tools in this game that wouldn't be something I would need to do. So if we did get a chat like that I probably would just turn it off. I did turn off trade chat in WoW because it could get pretty bad.
I understand why someone would want a regional or world chat. I just don't want or need it for myself. But at the same time I wouldn't care much if it was introduced to the game. If it ends up being like other games I played, I'll just turn it off.
World chat can be annoying AND useful/fun. Good thing like any chat in XIV it would be easy to toggle off or on as I desire. I'm for it
I may be in the minority here (or not, the forums do not reflect all of the actual players) - but I don't want such a channel. I've played many, many MMO's over the years, and every one of these "world chat" channels have devolved into cesspools. One of the things I like about FFXIV is that it DOESN'T have world chat. We have linkshells (and now Cross-World linkshells), and free company chats, and Shout for your current region - which can fill many communication needs. Even the Novice Network, I'm sad to say, is oftentimes pretty bad. When I returned to the game I was able to access the NN, and when I outleveled it I didn't mourn the loss.
Have you turned on /shout in Limsa? I'd assume not. And you know, you are never obligated to use it. You wouldn't be obligated to use this.
Please, name a chat channel that you are absolutely required to use besides /say. And even still, all it takes is a group of people (you can blacklist any time) to make it into something you don't like.
Sure you can leave any chat channel, but there is something to be said about first impressions.
If a new player comes to the game and sees a public chat channel that is, lets say not exactly showing the best face of the game, then that might not give a good impression.
I'm saying this because I have had to warn friends about some public chat channels in other games to assure them that not every player is like the people who frequently use those chats. Many new players would not have someone around to make them aware of this.
That being said FFXIV has a friendlier community than most mmorpgs, but the above is something to consider. Veteran players would know you can turn off the chat and that one bad channel doesn't necessarily reflect the atmosphere of the entire game, new players may not.
I did think it was odd to find no regional, world or trade chats in FFXIV when I started playing but I am wondering if this was a deliberate choice by SE.
So you don't need to use it to play an MMORPG.
That's indeed one of the reasons why I think we won't have regional/world chat: RMT advertisement. It's already bad enough for some people as it is. They wouldn't want to make the situation worse.Quote:

I'd love to see it implemented. I sometimes feel very lonely in this game, which is the first time it happens in more than a decade of playing MMOs.
Worse situation? Okay.
If "Region Chat" was actually a thing, then RMTs, bots and such could be on any server and drastically reduce the amount of bots requires to spam the chats. Thus meaning that the % chance of SE catching them goes down, purely because there's less OF them to catch.
And again. Just like it's been voiced plenty of times. "Open chats" aren't always a good thing. If people want to talk to people outside of their server, they will find a way to do so. I sincerely doubt anyone on the Crystal Datacenter wants to suffer the memery and general shenanigans that are some servers shout chats. Besides those that commit to the memery and general shenanigans.
You being from Mateus yourself, I can assume you don't want to deal with, say.. The ragefests and witchhunting of Zalera or Coeurl, purely by sharing a datacenter with them. We already have enough people being morons and antagonizing aplenty. Giving them an unmoderated, unbound chat room to vent their venom in to brings far more problems than benefits.
(Zalera / Coeurl Servers used as example. Not intended to be an attack or a callout. I dont personally know the state of the other servers besides Balmung. It's just that I know these servers are on Crystal off the top of my head.)
It would certainly give the novices a much better impression than they get now. I had a friend quit soon into the game because, due to game lacking general chat, and honestly NN not even being avalaible to most sprouts, his impression of the community was from Twitter and Reddit, which really house the worst scum our community has to offer. He now thinks the whole community is like that and the worst of any MMO. And no, running content doesn't help you get a good impression either at the start, since most people don't even say hi in runs, especially in low level ones where they just want to be out quick.
The only valid point made is the RMT one, but that way they'd be quicker to block and report tbh. Still a valid concern but eh, there was a time when those bots sent us tells, even. Can't be worse.
And to all those who say: I don't want it because I wouldn't use it: cool, next time I'll go complaining about new savages/extremes implementation because I wouldn't run them anywya, so who needs them, right?
