The direction of FFXIV's music.

I do like the current music, however I don't feel that J-Rock like music fits in well with Eorzea. I think the tracks are fine, but should be altered to an extent. I would like it if La Noscea's battle theme was toned down from a rock theme to a more orchestrated theme instead. I think that theme has potential to be out of this world if it was put into that format.

I said it in another thread. We just need a good transition between open world music and battle music. The instanced dungeons showed a great example of going between non-battle music to the battle theme.

As said before, I wish people would stop calling it J-Rock. Just because Uematsu is Japanese and he writes some rock-y songs doesn't mean that his music is J-Rock.

There's an earlier credit that lists Uematsu. It's at the very beginning of the credits, actually. This is later on, and is more like an 'additional composers' credit.

Yeah, those 3 names were added with the 1.19 patch. They are all SE in-house composers. Soken, the sound director, is no slouch composer either, I suppose it's up to him to keep it all consistent. I hope he also likes the idea of day/night songs. It's a good idea if only for the variety in not always hearing the same song.

I also hope 2.0 comes with another CD release. A more full soundtrack release.

Well, you have to agreed that Nobuo did the whole OST w/o ever seeing the game, I mean he did an amazing job via concept art lol, also remember that they cut his pieces and used some and others not, so I wont blame the man for what he did, but yea if he had more material to work we could see amazing pieces

I totally agree. FFXIV music is soulless, has no feeling, doesnt fit, horrible, boring. I play with music turned off because this music is awful, It ruins the game for me. Now FF11 on the other hand I absolutely loved zoning and enjoying the zone themes such as windys theme, bastok, Jueno, White gate, dynamis Xarcabard. They seriously need to completely redo every single zone in this game. I cannot believe how awful this games music is.

Not sure if it was already posted, not going through all the pages. But Nobou said in one interview after the release of the game that he didn't personally like all of the musical scores. A lot of them seemed detached from the world itself. When the original XIV team came to him, they came to him with concept art and ideas on paper, nothing he could really see for what it is and get an actual idea of how a player would precieve the world.

The current people they have making musical scores for the game I like, every new patch I go to their SE music blog to catch a tease of what they're about to release. So I'm sure they've already got a new OST set up for 2.0's release and I'm looking forward to it.

There are a few tracks that were included in the Alpha files that still havent been used yet that I think are still pretty great. Whether they'll keep them or not, dunno.

IMO, they need to get the staff that scored FFXI, FFXII, and the FFT series. They need to go into Nobuo's songs, which seem pretty bare bones to me, and embellish on them a bit. Get some real melody in there with more than just 1-2 verses. You know, songs that last longer than 4 minutes, because any less is frikkin' annoying when set on repeat for hours at a time.

When people are hired like this onto a MMO or game that plans expansions of any kind like Elder Scrolls game for instance, then the composers and voice actors alike are 99% of the time under a contract to keep coming back for expansions and new content. If he isn't it's more than likely a choice on SEs part, not his. That being said, being the HUGE name he is as far as video game composing goes, I seriously doubt SE is like "awesome composer...no thanks, we got this with a couple no names" if he is under contract they're gonna use him lol thats like the Yankees not letting Jeter play.

I really like all the music. I like seeing the feel each composer brings- I think it actually makes the world feel even more diverse.

I really like Quicksand, Twilight over Thanlan, Desert Moon Defied, The newer black shroud, pretty much any garleanean theme is amazing, Mor Dhona's battle music oh man. And as Akujin said there's a lot that's not fully used, so its more implementation if you ask me. No theme fits 100% but Twilight over Thanlan in a duststorm as you run back to town- Fantastic!

I have a feeling 2.0 will only enhance this music in how it fits.

Oh one thing though- more variations on raid music please!

I'd like more varied instrumentation, as well as themes that actually 'fit' an area, not just a random piano piece/march flavor of the week.

When I was younger I used to refer to Hironobu Sakaguchi, Nobuo Uematsu, Tetsuya Nomura, Yoshinori Kitase as the four gods. That's how much I respect these guys. Everything they touched became instant success.

Well. I got used to the music, and some tracks I find very fitting. Limsa Lominsa and Gridania for example, or the music in most of the Cutscenes. But some tracks are unfitting or not really memorial.
Ul'dah for example sounds like Elevator Music for me. Since Day one I really disliked it.

I think Uematsu is a great composer sure, he as some really really great tracks, but he isn't the ultimative answer.

XI was gorgouse. I remember nearly every single Track. Sure my favourite track in XI is from Uematsu, but the other tracks are very fitting too.
I must say that I like the new track of XIV more than the older ones and fare more catchy. Even when this Song is very annoying, but I hum the Moogle Music from King fight very often.....

I'm looking forward to XIV's direction, musically. It's Naoshi Mizuta, after all.

It hasn't been specified if Uematsu is still working for the game now.

To be honest, I don't care who does the songs. It could be Naoshi, it could be Noubo, it could be Waldo, until there is variations and the music is good it's really fine =)

I premise that for me the soundtrack is very important(if not essential).
I think that the current FFXIV's soundtrack second my modest opinion is not appropriate with the game's ambience(although with the latest patch some released soundtracks are good).
I can't identify myself in the game with this soundtrack because I think that the genre of some of them (progressive rock and pop) aren't good.
While for other soundtracks I think are a bit 'neglected(the minority of these).
Trying to compare the current ost to FFXI, I think that i can't really compare them.

For this game i recommend or FFXI and old synth style or a full orchestral Soundtrack.

Everyone has their own tastes, but I mean honestly? I probably could count on one hand how many times I've seen people openly saying they didn't like XI's OST.

It's just.. ....really damn amazing all around. Hard to live up to, even.

Ok, ok, joking aside I did check with Yoshi-P and the sound team about the future direction of FFXIV's music. They will be blending the old tracks with new ones to create the soundtrack for version 2.0.

Additionally, in regards to day-time/night-time music transitions, they told me that they were working on variety of different plans and considering a couple things for the BGM which would focus on interactivity.

Hope you are as excited to hear some fresh beats as I am :)

You took me by surprise via the dynamic music present in Toto-Rak that first time I entered.

I love the dungeon music, and how it changes between battle and normal. I hope that music never changes.
